i'm pretty sure that there is reworking of javascript in firefox that's even faster than V8http://arstechnica.com/journals/linux.ars/2008/09/03/new-firefox-javascript-engine-is-faster-than-chromes-v8

anyone played with the 3.1b1 nightly build and tested it out yet?
10/6/2008 1:03:04 PM
I installed it on my Ubuntu box last night, noticeable speed difference, but I was also using less extensions because they weren't compatible.

dang. I just downloaded it yesterday. Can't believe how fast it is.It will take a little getting used to, but it may just become my default browser at work.
11/7/2008 3:48:53 PM
Well, at least if they start making some tools for it. The sweet thing about firefox is it has some killer table aps that make my job a lot easier.Any word on whether Google is going to allow people to do this kind of thing?Plus a more aesthetically pleasing skin would be righteous. I don't like the blue or the buttons.

bump per request

it still scrolls weird for me, and that pretty much keeps me from using it frequently. that and there's no easy ad-in to install like adblock, as far as i could see.
2/28/2009 9:42:16 AM
i downloaded it for the first time, and i love the speed and the clean simple interface.however, there are 3 features i can't find which i am used to from IE.1) any way to zoom as in IE?2) if you go to a page and a pic doesn't load, in IE you can right-click on the red X or where the pic is supposed to be and go to 'show picture'. nothing like this in chrome. very annoying. you have to click reload just to get that one pic. sometimes, i actually cancel loading and view selected pics. for eg the official wtf pics thread... there are so many pics in there, so every time someone posts a new pic in there, i go to the thread and just stop loading the page. then i right-click the places where the latest pics are to see the latest pics only, instead of waiting for a million pics to load. there IS an 'open image in new tab' in chrome, but i wish there was a 'show picture'.3) also with pics, in IE you can right-click and go to 'properties' to see the image size, dimensions, and source. you can't do that in chrome. you can go to 'inspect element' and then 'metrics' and see the dimensions, but that's a long process. still, you can't see the size and the source. you can 'copy image URL' and paste somewhere, but again, that is not as easy.so, are these things possible in chrome? i went through options but couldn't find anything.i mean, google is known for making lives easy and thinking of issues like this. how come they didn't incorporate such important and damn-easy-to-incorporate functionalities? i bet the other browsers have these simple things also, don't they, and that chrome is the only one without them?they just seem so natural.P.S. one more thing:4) when responding to posts in TWW (BUT NOT ANOTHER BOARD I FREQUENT), after clicking on a tag button, the cursor appears to the left of the tag. that's HIGHLY ANNOYING. because then i have to use my mouse to put it after the tag before i can click ctrl-v to paste what i want to paste.[Edited on February 28, 2009 at 12:37 PM. ^ I've noticed the cursor thing too, annoying as hell. The chatterbox prompt (all javascript text boxes I think) don't focus on the text so you have to click in the text field to start typing too.I forget where I saw/read it, but I think they're opening Chrome up for extensions in May/June timeframe. I don't see it being a serious contender to Firefox until then, though I do use it whenever possible over Firefox and IE.

I want to save a page in a specific folder but it adds it to the last folder used. How can I specify it to go into a different folder from the last one? Will I just have to go into the Bookmarks manager every time and drag it?
3/2/2009 10:05:40 AM
Click the star button to add bookmark. It defaults to the most recently modified location.Click the edit button. Change the location.

WHY HAVEN'T THEY FIXED THE SCROLLING???
3/20/2009 11:38:07 AM
scrolling is fine for me - what does it do for you?
3/20/2009 11:41:50 AM
I haven't seen this yet - is there a function similar to the F11 that would enlarge your screen beyond the toolbars to view large photos?
3/21/2009 8:57:21 AM
you haven't seen that on what..... Chrome has exactly that option - F11 goes to Fullscreen
3/21/2009 9:00:31 AM
It doesn't do it for me.
3/21/2009 9:01:44 AM
works for me on the beta
3/21/2009 9:34:27 AM
well Fullscreen is under the Tools menu, if F11 doesn't activate it
3/21/2009 9:34:41 AM
Went from looking great to zoomed out a whole lot and I haven't messed with resolution. WTF?
4/29/2009 7:17:33 PM
my guess would be ctrl+scroll-wheel
4/29/2009 11:14:57 PM
there's this "Next" button thing that wont go away from the webpage display area of Chromewhats that noise
4/30/2009 12:36:34 AM
With the default install, I was noticing Chrome did not cache images, and was reloading them on every new page. Has anyone else noticed this? Is there a way to configure it?
4/30/2009 9:54:59 AM
haha the thread went to 6 in a matter of weeks then totally died for months.I have to say though, Chrome has become my most used browser. Still wish they had more apps for it like Fire Fox. FF has this cool tool that makes copying and pasting tables from internet pages a lot easier, which is very useful if you use BLS data alot.
5/8/2009 5:31:44 AM
I still use chrome at work and at home. I really haven't found the need for AddOns lately. The browser is just so stable and displays content quick and without error. Flash, Silverlight, it doesn't matter.
5/8/2009 8:40:11 AM
Not sure if anyone is getting this with the new Beta, but I'm not seeing any check-mark boxes showing up (like the kind you get when you click your Favorite Topics page and can deselect topics).
5/9/2009 7:27:18 PM
There's a place to turn those on and off under preferences. Unfortunately, that too is a checkbox.
5/9/2009 7:47:47 PM
divx almost got me to download thisalmost
5/10/2009 3:36:51 AM
i use chrome, i dunno why. every other browser just feels all bulky and sluggish, or something...
5/10/2009 6:20:37 AM
it's the load times in all those browsers with plugins e.g firefoxchrome starts instantly. i almost feel guilty starting firefox to browse the web for some small links sometimes. i just leave it open now and minimized.
5/10/2009 7:54:17 AM
If they could just fix this stupid box selection thing, it would make bill paying a lot easier. It's not like there's an option selected to not show them... they're off and on. Some days they just feel like appearing...[Edited on May 12, 2009 at 9:07 PM. Reason : Yay they're back on.]
5/12/2009 8:48:45 PM
chrome doesn't seem to check the dimensions of the monitor it's being displayed on...i have a 1600X1200 screen as my primary, and a 1280 X 1024 as my secondary, and whenever i try to maximize a chrome window on my smaller monitor it always extends past the screen..no other program does this. wonder if it's truely a bug, and if so if anyone has reported it...
5/12/2009 8:54:11 PM
Can anyone tell me how to make Chrome stop putting that "Next" thing on the right side? It shows up on all webpages, its not a button or anything
5/14/2009 12:08:21 PM
^^ I had the same problem in XP going from a 1650x1080 monitor to a 1600x1200 one.Problem disappeared when I upgraded to Vista, though.Do you run Ultramon by chance? It may have something to do with that.
5/14/2009 12:47:49 PM
How does it behave if you switch the primary display in the display settings?
5/14/2009 1:46:52 PM
5/14/2009 1:52:30 PM
Is there an ad blocker for this yet?Is there any good reason to switch from firefox?
5/17/2009 2:34:42 PM
5/18/2009 9:24:55 AM
for serious, how hard is it to fix the scrolling in this damn thing??
5/18/2009 10:12:00 AM
What about the scrolling is broken?
5/18/2009 10:14:53 AM
it scrolls in sections, not smoothly.
5/18/2009 10:29:35 AM
Never had a problem with that.
5/18/2009 10:32:30 AM
it does that on my work computer (dell workstation, vista, super crazy video card), and my dell mini9 (xp, crap video card)
5/18/2009 11:30:20 AM
i think hes saying it doesnt bother him
