That sounds really good. How long do you typically let it cook?
9/13/2009 8:27:37 PM
around 6-8 hoursyou can make it in 4 if you put it on high for 2 hours and low for the last 2 hoursand it is one of my faaaaaaaavoritesoh and depending on how wine-y you like your sauce, you can add more wine. i never actually measure i just pour until I think it looks about right. its definitely more than a 1/2 cup when i make it. 9/14/2009 8:56:04 AM
you people are still using this low-class cooking abomination?
9/14/2009 9:03:36 AM
it was pezking's recipe on page 5
9/14/2009 10:24:05 AM
i just set this to cook on Low for the next...oh, 8 hours or so. Chili Cook-Off at work tomorrow. it's gonna be gooooood. and thanks djeternal for the pointers!!!
9/25/2009 12:30:09 AM
i thought you were goin to bed?
9/25/2009 12:31:44 AM
omgi want chili so bad now.chili cook off at work???? sounds like a dream come true.DAMN IT!! now i'm hungry.
9/25/2009 12:32:11 AM
^^go back and read my CB post. i said i was gonna get the chili ready for the crock pot and then go to bed ^yea, we have pot luck lunches every few months. this time we decided on a chili cook-off. mine is the "heart healthy" turkey chili. someone else is doing texas chili (beef, no beans) and another girl is making white chicken chili. someone is making homemade cornbread too!
9/25/2009 12:34:26 AM
I know I was just messin with you
9/25/2009 12:35:23 AM
you should invest in slow cooker linersseriously they are like the best $2 you'll ever spend
9/25/2009 12:36:32 AM
....but then all your food is in a bag. and that's weird.
9/25/2009 12:38:26 AM
ok, my chili came out good. i ended up leaving out the jalapeno, so there's no spicy to it whatsoever. there's this tangy flavor i can't quite place. i think it might be the chunky salsa i added. regardless, it's super yummy.and i'm ticked because the girl didn't show up with the white chicken chili!
9/25/2009 8:54:57 AM
No heat? WTF? But I bet the salsa probably has vinegar (or maybe citrus if it's the good stuff) giving tang to the chili.
9/25/2009 9:10:28 AM
No heat! I don't like the spicy stuffs. But I learned my lesson - no salsa in my chili. I read online that it gives it good flavor, but it tastes like I cooked it with vinegar and that's not good in my book
9/25/2009 9:11:26 AM
^ I dont like spicy stuff either, and i like the most basic chilly i can get no onion, very little tomato for flavor that i can pick out
9/25/2009 9:15:51 AM
Place cows uterus in crock pot. Cook on high for 67 days. Enjoy.
9/25/2009 9:16:41 AM
I just looked at page five - now I want pezking's bbq and djeternal's garden fresh chili. recipe for the chili, dj? i made homemade spaghetti sauce (not in the crockpot) recently with fresh tomatoes from my csa and holy hell was it delicious. mmm tomatoes.
9/25/2009 9:19:27 AM
djeternal hasn't actually typed out a chili recipe. he gave a link on page 1 that he tends to follow, and also listed what he tends to add as "extra". that's the recipe that i loosely followed, though in the end i decided to just throw in a bunch of stuff and hope for the best ]
9/25/2009 9:21:18 AM
SaabTurbo promised me his BBQ chicken crockpot recipe but never did send it
9/25/2009 9:28:40 AM

9/25/2009 9:32:48 AM
how did the chili turn out?
9/25/2009 9:36:43 AM
did you even read the new posts from this morning?
9/25/2009 9:37:07 AM
nope
9/25/2009 9:37:35 AM
^^ can i have some?
9/25/2009 9:39:02 AM
you better get here soon. that other girl hasn't shown up yet with her chili contribution, and if she doesn't, then we don't even have enough for the people in the office
9/25/2009 9:40:55 AM
on my way!
9/25/2009 9:42:10 AM
there's a london broil under all those veggies
9/26/2009 12:48:43 PM
I made a pot roast last week that didn't turn out right at all. The roast itself came out perfect, but the potatoes and carrots didn't get soft after I cooked it for 10 hours. I ended up having to take out all the veggies and put them in a pot of boiling water for 15 minutes to cook them. First time that has ever happened, but my GF's mom told her that the same thing has happened to her several times.WEIRD!
9/26/2009 12:53:16 PM
Im actually gettin ready crock pot it up.
9/26/2009 12:54:29 PM
i put enough liquid in there (beef broth and water) to completely cover the meat, and as you can see there's some liquid touching the veggies. i stir it every hour or two to make sure the veggies all get a chance to be submerged in the liquid and i hope (crossing fingers) that the veggies cook through.
9/26/2009 12:54:47 PM
^ I do the same thing but I NEVER.....and i mean NEVER open the crockpot once it has started cooking.I have made the pot roast the same way many many times with no issues, but this time I must have gotten some stubborn potatoes and carrots.
9/26/2009 12:59:05 PM
damn i really want to make some chili now
9/26/2009 1:00:17 PM
^^seriously? i shouldnt be opening it? i have lots to learn
9/26/2009 1:00:52 PM
well it depends on what I am cooking. If I am cooking chili or soup, I will open it once or twice during cooking just to give it a stir. But whenever I am slow cooking a big piece of meat (roast, whole chicken, etc etc), I don't open it at all until the cooking time is complete. That steam gives it a lot of flavor and keeps it moist, plus keeps the temperature consistent.
9/26/2009 1:03:25 PM
Had a bunch of chicken and no way to cook it last night so I used my leftover vinegar bbq sauce and cooked it all of today. I assume this is a healthier and decent tasting alternative to pulled pork?

QUESTION!!!if i put boneless chicken breasts in the crock pot and cook them for hours (with some kinda sauce, of course) do they come out dry? i wanna do chicken this time around but i'm worried that boneless white meat chicken will end up dry and not that good. i have issues with bone-in meat so the boneless chicken is my only choice
10/19/2009 9:23:20 AM
^ Will you cook them in a particular kind of sauce? I think it depends on the sauce.^^ The chicken enchilada soup looks fab![Edited on October 19, 2009 at 9:25 AM. Reason : .]
