well look at you name-dropping when you say javascript, do you mean somebody whose core competency and primary role is doing javascript? or should candidates have skills in other relevant web UI technologies like html/css/design/usability? and is that pure js or using frameworks like jquery?[Edited on August 19, 2010 at 11:22 PM. They have friends here. You know them? Epic name drop fail We use Ext-JS, but any relevant framework knowledge would be helpful. I know there are places that use home grown or no frameworks, but I'm not sure why they'd do that. You have to know the DOM, HTML, CSS, and anything else you'd need to do front end work as well as all the backend serialization stuff (JSON, XML, REST vs SOAP). [Edited on August 20, 2010 at 8:07 AM. I'm getting very excited about the previous job I spoke of. I did an interview and they had me do the paperwork for a federal background check. They said it could be a month or two before that cleared. This week they e-mailed me to get three work references. Got those to him, and one of them was a current co-worker (not my boss, though). He called her Thursday and since I hadn't been at her location in a while and she said "We sure miss him around here", his response was "Don't count on him coming back. We really want him on our team." w00t! Now just hope the salary offered is enough. Although all my friends will give me hell for it, esp. here, since I will officially be a traitor.

Looking for a graphic designer to make some "flashy" brochures. I don't really know any details other than that it will be more than just putting some clipart on a page.
9/27/2010 1:19:20 PM
We're hiring both interns and full-time in the Atlanta area - below is the official description that is correct for the most part but let me know if you want any clarification - we are looking to hire 4-5 college hires soon (probably december grads) and at least 1 experienced hire (3-10 years consulting experience) - in my opinion the perfect fit is CSC or EE that don't want to develop every day but can still crank out a helper utility as needed - it says SQL is preferred below but in my opinion if you can't write a simple select query you will not survive herewe are growing quickly and need some talented people ASAP - my team of 14 (that was 4 this time last year) has only 2 that aren't GTech grads we are also looking for developers - a .NET shop except for the work done on mobile deviceswe're a startupish company (2 sides of the business - this one is the more recent and is a bit over 2 years old)

I got the call yesterday. Salary and benefits were what I wanted. She said to get back with her Monday, so I could talk to the wife and make sure she was still cool with everything. I dread telling my boss because he has been great, but I think he will understand. I will start the first week of Dec. Now I have to figure out what I am going to do about living arrangements near Chapel Hill and get our house ready to go on the market. Holy shit tons to do but very excited.

^ what are you going to do if your current company counters with a similar offer? I see me getting a minimal raise this year (just because the company isn't making the money in general). I'll probably leave for more money but i could see them digging into their pockets to keep me around if i did give them word...or they could just say peace and that's it.I've never been in the situation yet, just curious on how you tech guys handle going from one company to the next.
11/5/2010 1:04:03 PM
Honestly I don't know, but I'm 99% sure that it will not be possible. They would have to throw me on a far higher salary schedule to meet the raise, as they are both state jobs, and the raise is over 12 grand. I also have seen no pay raise in 2 years at my current job. Not sure the etiquette on a counter offer. 10-12k would go farther where I'm at now, although the public schools are shit and I'm not allowed to bring my kids to school at my current employer. If they could give me both of those, I'd probably stay, because I love what I do, most of my coworkers, etc.
11/5/2010 2:04:27 PM
^^just don't take a counter offer after accepting an offer. bad for business^if they do raise your salary by 10k, you have to ask yourself... why didn't they raise it before? they knew you were that valuable, but they just like underpaying people?[Edited on November 5, 2010 at 3:25 PM.
