In that interview it sounds like he is basically saying... in D2 people by and large gravitated to the same builds and pumped the same skills, and abandoned the others. They also accidentally wasted skills on stuff they didn't want at higher difficulties. We fixed that by removing the choice altogether. I guess that's the way most played, especially online, but what about those crazy builds where you just wanted to try out builds that pumped fun but rarely used skills. There's pros and cons to it I guess. They say there's now infinite respecing, which drove the decision. If people had the option to respec they'd just move 20 skill points from one skill to another, so why not get rid of points? Sounds like a fun game for one playthrough, but if you can just respec I can see switching out skills for 30 minutes and switching for another 30 minutes and "burning" through all the choices in a matter of hours. See all the game has to offer in a short amount of time, and get bored. Like if I play as a sorc there's less incentive to start the game over as a sorc to try a new build, I can just tweak the one I've got. I suspect this will result in the average player having relatively few, high level characters as opposed to several "flavors" of the same character class. I guess it's a good thing in some ways, since it is a bit wasteful to replay the game from the beginning just to try new skills. Not a bad thing. That said it's kind of lame in other ways. A fireball is a fireball, a chain lightning is a chain lightning. It scales with your char level (apparently) but now there's no more massive fireball and a reduced chain lightning choices (or whatever) to be had, it's on or off, and you can flip the bit any time. Why not just give everyone all skills? I guess there would have to be a substantial cost to respec to prevent people from doing it every time they come up on a pack of enemies with different resistances.Well it is a different game, sounds like I'm just looking for a slightly better D2 with better graphics and widescreen support, so I guess I'll hold off until the "play offline, D2 mod" Edit:I wonder what skills would be like if they scaled their power to your use? Like chain lightning got more powerful the more you used it, swap it out late game for a new skill and you have to develop it with use from the ground up, switch back to chain lightning and it's back to... square one... or at the same level you left it. That might cut down on the likelihood to swap skills after each mob encounter - or drive people to jack-of-all trades grind in lower levels.[Edited on August 3, 2011 at 3:00 PM. Reason : -]

i guess this isn't really a MMO so the cash auction house doesn't mattertl;dr i don't really give a shit, but i won't be paying cash for items....but will sell
8/3/2011 2:44:48 PM
^ yeah but there will be servers. High pop to low pop.I get an item on a low pop, i can sell it for almost triple what i could get for it on a high pop.

It pisses me off how much hype this game gets; not so much Blizzard's hype, but the vapid articles constantly getting churned out by the gaming press: "What we want from Diablo 3""How Diablo 3 will change gaming (revisited)""If Diablo 3 were a fruit, it would be...""Diablo 3, Diablo 3, our website needs page-hits, Diablo 3""Blizzard released another tiny detail about Diablo 3. We wrote 5 filler articles, conducted two interviews, and filled our main page with game art"I wish I could just forget about the game until it comes out.On another note, I just played through Dungeon Siege 2 for the second time and it was still fun.
8/3/2011 3:33:21 PM
I think the auction house is good. I just hope its webpage supported without being in game to see listings.
8/3/2011 4:39:57 PM
As long as there is strict enforcement against bots and farmers then I suppose this can be an okay thing. I'd like a mandatory matching of in-game currency option in conjunction with the real life money because currently there is very little incentive to put items up for anything other than real $bucks. I know that everyone seeing dollar signs from this is going to take exception with my statement.
8/3/2011 5:01:05 PM
^6: I've played a ton of D2 and I only have (had, actually) one duplicate high-level class: two 75+ level sorcs (meteor+chain and meteor+frozen orb). I was going for all seven classes beating Hell, which I never quite finished. I wasn't one for starting a bunch of different characters just to see what works. I mean, once I found the entire Immortal King set, there's really only one barb build to do: whirlwind. If you're going for level 99, that also cuts down on the amount of time spent with duplicate classes. I like the idea of respecing, but I'm not going to go nuts with it. I figure it will cut down on mistakes with builds.
8/3/2011 5:50:53 PM
All I want is Hardcore mode.I also don't see the end game being any different from D2's boss runs or PvP outside the town.
8/4/2011 2:26:13 PM
Hardcore is confirmed, and will be gold auction house only.
8/4/2011 2:40:25 PM
I love the idea of the real money auction house, especially the fact that you can sell gold legally. There was so much in WoW I wish I could have "cashed out". It also seems like they have come up with a good way for you to use the real cash AH without having to pay anything in (free weekly vouchers, etc...). I am looking forward to trying it out. Depending on prices, I could see myself spending a couple bucks here or there to do something fun in game, or work on a grind (mats for crafting, etc...). For me, it comes down to time. I would rather cough up a few extra bucks for somethings, than grind for hours for the same outcome.Look at all the people that paid money to get in game pets that do nothing for the actual game itself, or how many people purchase stuff to make thier XBOX Live avatar look different.
8/4/2011 2:53:43 PM
If you still have gold, I used a fairly reliable company called Pusada to sell gold to. Not the best prices but not the worst either. Moved about 500k in Wrath (30-50k at a time) without setting off anything. Haven't played recently, but gold may be next to worthless now

@ Catalyst from Blizzard's AH FAQ:If I no longer need an item I bought in the auction house, can I relist it in the auction house?Yes. Once you've purchased an item you can do anything with it that you could if you had acquired it through your own adventures, whether that be using it yourself, or, after a cool-down period, trading it to another character or relisting it on either the gold-based or currency-based auction house. In fact, you can generally do any combination of these things -- for example, you can purchase an item in the auction house, use it for a while, and then relist it or trade it to another character. Aside from certain quest items, there will be very few (if any) items that will be “soulbound” to your character and therefore untradable. Please note that the duration of the cool-down period mentioned above will be discussed at a later date.[Edited on August 20, 2011 at 7:34 PM. Reason : .]

Blizzard is sending out emails to members of the press to set up beta accounts for them. They have until August 30th to respond to Blizzard to have their accounts set up so that they can "Be one of the first to enter Diablo 3" -- IMO it sounds like the CB is getting ready to launch in the first week of September. Cannot wait!
8/26/2011 1:24:20 PM
I've decided that this whole AH system may ruin this game for me at least over a long term period. Part of the appeal of this type of game for me was always in general how geared and awesome your character was was proportional to how much time you invested and a little luck. Now it will be how much money you are willing to throw at your character. I will definitely still play but once I start to see everyone running around fully decked because they bought all their stuff I'll probably be done. Pretty much the same thing happens in every MMO for me as soon as they start to cater to noobs and casual players who cry about not being able to get decked out so they put stuff on easy mode for them.
8/27/2011 10:37:21 AM
^ I'm gonna spend $Texas on my character and pwn your n00b ass
8/27/2011 12:41:39 PM
They probably are gonna have it so you can't farm for items (or at least make it really tedious) and this will probably offset the buying of items by noobs.
8/27/2011 12:59:36 PM

I know the NDA is sill active, so any info, post it up.
9/9/2011 11:51:37 AM
There is no NDA for the friends and family beta that is ongoing -- this has been confirmed by Bashiok on the D3 forums. There is one weird exception to this: If you are in the F&F beta AND are a member of press or run a fansite, you are bound by an NDA.Why exactly they split hairs like this I have no idea. The press invites for beta have gone out, but their accounts are not active yet (only active beta accounts are friends and family). All indications seem to point to the press/fansite accounts going active in the extremely near future, with the general closed beta starting at the same time or within a few days of the press.http://www.diablofans.comThis site seems to have the most up to date information as it comes out.

Does anyone remember what Blizzard did surrounding the release of Diablo 2 (or their more recent games)? The only reason I ask is because it seems a bit unlikely that they would announce a release date and have it be in the immediate future. Oh, BTW. Diablo 3 comes out September 20th.Maybe they would do something like that, but it seems like they'd give at least a 2 months heads up. So if they are looking at an early December release you'd think that you would have heard something by now. Maybe they don't need the time to advertize the game's release date since they've got the whole "must be living under a rock if you don't know" thing going for this game.Anyway, the further we get into September the less likely I feel like they are going to release this year. When is Blizzard's fiscal year up? That might be an indicator, depending on whether they need the D3 revenue to go in one particular year over another.[Edited on September 16, 2011 at 12:10 PM. My guess is a release date will be announced at blizzcon
9/16/2011 12:10:03 PM
December is a terrible time to release a online powered game that require employee man power. (xmas, holidays, etc). Expect Jan+ 2012.
9/16/2011 12:18:34 PM
even if blizzard did give a date of release, i'd take it with a grain of salt....esp if you are comparing it to diablo II. that game got pushed back a number of times and was delayed for over a year iirc.
9/16/2011 12:28:27 PM
Nah Blizzard wants this out before xmas. My money is by the middle of December.I mean, the Public Beta will be starting soon, before October. Oct-Nov is plenty of time to Beta and tweak before a December release date.
9/16/2011 1:01:12 PM
They are in a game of chicken with SWTOR. If TOR drops first then I'd see Diablo 3 hitting about a month later to take the wind out of Bioware's sails. That said, I'll be playing both.
9/16/2011 3:56:04 PM
I'm pretty sure everyone is going to buy this game, regardless
