The Centennial Authority is a volunteer board appointed by leaders from the state of North Carolina, Wake County, the city of Raleigh and Wake County Mayors. It was created by the General Assembly in 1995 to study, design, construct, own, promote, finance and operate a facility now known as the RBC Center. The RBC Center houses entertainment shows such as concerts, circuses and ice shows and is home to sports teams such as the Carolina Hurricanes and North Carolina State University basketball.

I was hoping that someone that actually heard this would report back with some of the better comments from people that called in. At least to know what kind of corner Fowler was backed into. After reading the thread I can only assume that the calls were pretty lame/tame.

I mean, I consider graduates of NCSU to be pretty damn bright.YOU:CANNOT:HIDE:OUR:RECORD:IN:SPORTSThere must be an excuse written down for every sport during every year of his tenure. And that is why people think he is doing a good job.Fuck football, fuck basketball. Give me the record of everything else and I will show you a losing athletic department.
5/21/2008 8:13:26 PM
I can't believe they gave this guy a vote of confidence. It looks like a group of inept leaders trying to save face. It's interesting that same time that Fowler is flushing our Athletic Department down the proverbial toilet that Oblinger has been flushing our academics down the toilet.http://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/stories/2007/10/08/story2.htmlThere is a systemic acceptance of failure and mediocrity at NCSU that has never existed before. There is no committment to excellence at any level, albeit NCSU has some of the best professors available. Even the world's greatest artist can't make a beautiful painting when all you give him is shit.

Which college at State is seeing the most growth? I think if State put the cap on freshman enrollment right now, you would see the average SAT score increase dramatically over the next few years and we'd be in the 1200 range. SAT scores are definitely going to go down or stay the same if you increase the size of the freshman class by over 1,000 in 5 years. UNC on the other hand wants to sit there and have a circle jerk over how they are elite b/c of their SAT scores, b/c they refuse to grow the freshman class that much in response to the increase in population of the state.
5/22/2008 9:52:15 AM
^ exactly. I had friends who had high gpas in high school (4.5-4.9) but weren't excepted at unc because they had an SAT in the low 1200s. It's ridiculous.
5/22/2008 10:17:00 AM
petty, but isn't the SAT out of 2400 now?

Hopefully this means that Fowler will be shown the door some time in the next year. It's similar to that show of empty support that a lot of coaches get right before they are fired or move on due to building pressure. Remember the vote of confidence the faculty gave Sendek before he left. This kind of brings me to something that I discussed over lunch with my boss and another Ph.D. that has a ton of experience. We noticed some people were getting awards and recognition and began discussing it. The one Ph.D. that's not my boss said that some bosses will try to recognize employees they think aren't doing as well as they'd hope as a way to motivate them to do better b/c they will feel like they are appreciated. If they don't improve their performance soon after, then they will be let go.
5/22/2008 10:51:56 AM
^^ Yeah I don't mind growth, but to grow by 1,000 students over 5 years is a pretty large increase.[Edited on May 22, 2008 at 10:53 AM. Reason : ]

this just in, statefans does not like lee fowler, and they've got statistics to back their argument.
5/22/2008 1:33:36 PM
^There is now more damning evidence.http://www.statefansnation.com/index.php/archives/2008/05/22/the-state-of-state-part-three-meet-the-standards/Lee Fowler must be questioning his entire existence at this point. It's pretty clear to everyone who is paying any attention that he is a failure at his job. I just hope that when I get to be that invested in a career that I don't turn out like him. It must be terribly depressing for him, but I am sure that the 264 (or whatever) a year he collects is a pretty good salve.
5/23/2008 12:22:28 AM
^^ well seemingly nobody except us are listening, so why not keep going till you have a shit ton of stats to support it[Edited on May 23, 2008 at 12:45 AM. Reason : ]

stop giving money to the fucking school retards. Write a letter saying why.

but our fans are too dedicated.i have no respect for the guy, but i still want to watch football in the fall
5/23/2008 7:31:55 AM
I go to football for myself. I have no intention of paying or giving anymore money until something is done.
5/23/2008 10:40:17 AM
I'm all for firing Fowler, but the guys at StateFans tend to repeat themselves a little too much.
5/23/2008 10:47:00 AM
^ they didn't include M B-Ball because we were tied for last with BC.
5/23/2008 2:18:27 PM
http://acc.starnewsonline.com/default.asp?item=2206552Ok, lets assume for fun that this author is a UNC fan. In reality, how much would Fowler getting fired set us back in our programs? It seems to be that since we just went through coaching changed in BB and FB those would be on cruise control for a while and wouldnt be affected so much by any change.

^ I wonder how willing students would be to double their fees to sports and recreation from like 50 bucks a semester to 100 or whatever they are. Most wouldn't even notice the difference. If money is one issue that we need to address, then it should be done before Lee Fowler gets fired in order to attract a higher quality AD candidate.Does anyone know who is in control of the budget that goes to athletics at NCSU, is it the same at all UNC schools and they just have better alumni donations in Chapel Hill, etc?
5/26/2008 1:31:17 PM
i thought the wolfpack club donated a shit load, hence why they are the biggest alumni body supporting athletics or whatever the term is.
5/26/2008 1:50:45 PM
doubling student fees would not double the athletics department's cash.
5/26/2008 3:06:44 PM

Fowler tonight at the Wolfpack Club Caravan: "Facilities, facilities, underappreciated, softball, baseball, facilities, facilities, internet people, facilities, softball, facilities"And when Fowler had control of the mic and the question was asked to Tom O'brien, "Coach O'brien what are your thoughts on us having the first game of the season against South Carolina and a follow up game at Clemson just two weeks afterwards?""Fowler: "Well, let me say I think we'd rather just not play those games, HAHA! But let me hand the mic over to Coach O'brien" to which the two USC/Clemsons fans in the place erupted into applauseTypical Fowler defeatism, maybe just a misguided attempt at humor but a highly inappropriate one for a WOLFPACK CLUB gathering I thought

5/27/2008 11:18:33 PM
I was just at the pool at carmichael looking at plans with my boss for the new light fixtures they are putting in. The maintenance guy we were talking to mentioned the banners we have and how we haden't won a championship in swimming in a really long time and that these light fixtures would probably help recruiting. I think I stared at him for about 10 seconds before politely agreeing....
5/28/2008 9:10:10 AM
UCLA has won more NCAA championships in the last three weeks than NC State has won, period.
