re: Vampire WeekendThe first four tracks are great, the rest is fairly boring
2/3/2008 2:10:49 PM
Meshuggah - ObZen has apparently leaked. ill have to pick that up this week.im excited
2/4/2008 1:09:26 AM
i've heard very few people dislike vampire weekend. am i the only one that really dislikes that album? maybe i just hate happy sounding music too much to get into that sound. but even listening to it objectively i don't see how that album can get more than a 6/10.
2/4/2008 12:45:59 PM
i like a couple of tracks (oxford comma and a-punk) but i really don't get the hype
2/4/2008 1:13:56 PM
I like most of the Vampire Weekend album. I love tracks 1 thru 5 and tracks 9 thru 11.My favorite songs on the record are "Oxford Comma" (#2), "M79" (#5), "I Stand Corrected" (#9), and "The Kids Don't Stand a Chance" (#11).
2/4/2008 1:19:36 PM
i get the hype. there isn't a bad track on the album and a hand full of awesome ones. its an album full of catchy songs that are fun/easy to sing along to. and the slight african influences give the impression that the music is fresh/different/whatever.
2/4/2008 1:23:05 PM
ive heard about 4 songs. its ok. its not anything id listen to on any sort of regular basis. its pretty shallow musically.
2/4/2008 1:31:48 PM
2/4/2008 1:53:20 PM
While I initially didn't really like it tremendously, I was drawn to play it twice today. It's really catchy.
2/4/2008 2:14:12 PM
well i think there is a difference between simple and shallow.i dont mind something being simple a la weezer, iron and wine, dismemberment plan, the shins, nirvana, minor threat, the strokes...all bands i like and all musically simple bands.but there is something annoying about some of the bands that, at least to me, seem like they are just trying their hardest to write something overly simple instead of trying to write a decent song, that might be simple.if your songs are simple, they have to be rock solid start to finish and full of some good melody (think weezer blue album) and you can get away with it all day long. If your songs are half arse and simple it holds no musical enjoyability for me. there is a fine line.

2/4/2008 2:19:28 PM
they're certainly no BTBAM, that's one thing we can all agree on

I finally got around the listening to that Vampire Weekend CD and it was by far one of the most unimpressive hyped debuts I've heard in a while.
2/7/2008 1:16:15 AM
If anyone sees the Gutter Twins leak pop up, how about sending it my way. Thanks!
2/7/2008 11:55:19 AM
Finally listened to Destroyer too and that was actually quite a chore. On first listen alone it's my least favorite of his.
2/7/2008 12:03:05 PM
I really liked the vampire weekend album when I first heard it a few months ago, and I still think it's quite good, but I don't think I'm ready for dick sucking that is still to come. Hell it's already in full effect and the album just fucking came out.
2/7/2008 2:32:23 PM
Los Campesinos! was just as fun and wacky as I'm From Barcelona. I think we all expected it would be with their earlier releases and I'll take it over Vampire Weekend.
2/7/2008 3:50:27 PM
^^^ Okay, fuck that. I am taking time out of my important vacation schedule to call you out on dissing the awesomest Destroyer album since, like, well, at least the last one.
2/7/2008 3:54:45 PM
i didn't like it all that much either. and i'm one of the bigger destroyer fans who exists
2/7/2008 3:58:26 PM
Rubies was great but something about this latest one was just bland.

hey benin the future, i move we use "hffp" instead of the standard "hxxp" for music linksthe ff's look more like the tt's, but with a foppish twistit appeals to a broader audience
2/7/2008 7:00:25 PM
if it's foppish,i'm all for it
2/7/2008 7:04:14 PM
they played fucking mayonnaise?!?!?!?
2/7/2008 9:17:09 PM
yupwish they had busted that out in the states last year
2/7/2008 9:25:01 PM
that link is only the first half of the set, do you by chance have the second half?and the quality isnt that great, but its great to hear mayonnaise live
2/7/2008 9:29:02 PM
Your choice of format:http://www.archive.org/details/sp2008-01-31.sl.flac16I think this may be a different recording of that show, although the quality isn't great on either one.Sebastian Boschert recorded the Zurich show, which had the same setlist, and it will probably be up on archive.org soon. His recordings are almost always really awesome.

Times New Viking is all right. I'm not big on the lo-fi sound, though[Edited on February 7, 2008 at 10:56 PM. Reason : ]
