it makes no sense having Hickson on the bench for that long. The only thing I can think of is that maybe Sid was trying to rest him for tomorrow but that wouldn't make much sense either since we never really pulled away at any point in the game.

the first thing sid said when he came here is that we would run and have fun. we ran more last year than we have this year and played the same number of guys. we need to run up the possessions play fast as hell and play everybody(smith,horner, harris). when you play slow it plays into a team like riders hands because it makes the game shorter and gives us less margin for error.

^^^most of our turnovers come trying to force offense late in the shotclock against a defense thats dug in. if we race down we can get easy baskets on a secondary break.

my assesment:


-the bad-

grant had his classic 4-5 turnovers in a row.. lol

no 3pt shooting (luckily we hit 4-4, which won us the game actually)

we almost lost the game not wanting to hit gimme freethrows (like 3-12 in the last 2 mins?? wtf??)

the *mcCauley / costner / grant* trio had a few plays, but seemed to refuse to play well with hickson.. babies. grow up and play as a team, stop acting like girls, and let hickson play.

some players just stand there acting like they've won the game when it's by far not over. i hate seeing this team play when they have a lead.

ferguson > horner? no. please not. ferguson missed 2 wide open 3's. I easily could've hit one of those. he just looks scared out there

hickson looked good again, he's owned the thompsons

grant had a few nice drives/dunks

sidney lowe got seriously mad at some points and that makes me think he's really trying to get the kinks out of this team

Once again, perimeter defense is lacking. Grant, Fells gave up a lot of outside shots. The other team moves the ball exactly how they want to because we are not getting pressure on the ball or passing lanes. Then, McCauley and Hickson get beaten in one on one situations.

Grant, Fells, and Costner are not boxing out as they should.

On offense, we are really slow at moving the ball from side to side. That's key in disrupting the zone and getting an opening.

I have to admit that I was really impressed with Fells today and his play on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. Javi had some good play today also with steals and I think that he could be huge in years to come as the court manager. When this team gets the offense firing on all cylinders a 100 point game won't be out of the question.

there need to be guys on our team that need to figure out that they're just not going to be the STAR. The year Syracuse won the National Title....Carmelo was THE STAR and everyone fit in perfectly around him without the super egos. When it was their time to make a shot or to play, they played and manned up instead of being pussies like some of our guys.

^^^ Well besides Thompson, Rider didn't really have much size. They ran like 3 guards, so having Horner out there at the 3 wouldn't be too wise defensively since he's the size of a lot of 4s. Sid has a pretty good rotation at the 4/5 right now with Costner, McCauley, and Hickson.

I would really like Ferguson to become good for us down the road, but right now I'm counting down the days till Johnson can come in and when not running the point can move over to the 2 and give Fells a rest.

I think that Johnson should be Fells backup and and just let Javi and Degand battle it out for pg spot. I think that with Javi playing as a freshman and getting him early experience this could pay off huge at pg and just let johnson get use to the 2 in case Fells decides to go pro. Either way this will help our back court situation.
