welcome to college. you are no longer the man, the world no longer revolves around you, and no one gives a shit about you. learn that, and you'll be golden.

Smoke pot in moderation. A pot head in high school may smoke a few times a week while a pot head in college will smoke at least 4 times a day. That much pot smoking is a waste of money and will keep you from involving yourself in some of the more outward social experiences you would otherwise have at college. Smoke no more than 3 times a week and only at parties or with your friends. If you fail to follow this advice YOU WILL SPEND MORE TIME STONED IN A DIMLY LIT ROOM WITH YOUR FRIENDS THAN MEETING AND HAVING SEX WITH CHICS and it'll be years before you realize how hot, abundant and willing the chics really were at the time. you have all your life to smoke as much pot as you want.

If you've been going out with a girl for a few weeks, and you're sitting on second trying to get to third and she says to you "normally, I'd be all about this but my confidence is not really good with you"do not, I repeat DO NOT, under any circumstances let the information you know about her generous sexual past lead you to say"I don't know why, you have plenty of experience"You'll be called out at second base and ejected from the field of play with a quickness that will make your head spin.

lol
6/16/2009 9:55:32 AM
Do not waste your time trying to chase down and woo one particular girl. If it gets to the point where you are chasing her pull the rip cord and bail. there are too many girls at college (even at NC State) to focus on just one that even if you get her you won't marry. Also, take pride in your appearance. You'll see a positive response and this will impact your confidence. If you don't give much weight to girls who are shabby looking why would a girl's impression of you be any different?[Edited on June 16, 2009 at 10:00 AM. Reason : edits]

^^^ actually, this thread was originally created in 2003-2004, and the things I posted came from several users here that I'd saved. I didn't save NCSU-specific stuff, as I've never attended State, but lots of users posted good stuff. Very few of the things in the lists I posted came from me.[Edited on August 21, 2009 at 4:18 PM. 1. Learn your limit (alcohol) if you didn't in high school and stay under it2. Talk to girls, if you get shot down, there are 2342342342 more to approach3. Make study/h.w groups for classes, good way to get to know your classmates and possibly make friends4. Have confidence in yourself. FUCK BITCHES GET MONEY5. DO NOT DO DRUGS AND GO OUT IN PUBLIC6. Stay in shape, play sports ( make friends )7. Get your school shit done before you enjoy yourself....8. If she smokes she pokes9. smart girls are the freakiest in bed10. Wrap your shit up

Get involved in the school. Learn all you can about it. Be a part of the traditions* and become a part of its history. Also remember, college != high school.*If you go to NC State, make transient traditions.

1) Once you're done unpacking, repack all your shit and transfer to UNC Wilmington. College isn't about learning, you fucking naïf. The chicks are hotter, the ratio is better, and you're right by the beach. Unless you're going for engineering, your degree is a worthless piece of paper that you can get at any bottom of the barrel school.
8/21/2009 5:47:25 PM
Get a job and internship asap. You will need that experience when you graduate.
8/21/2009 5:49:01 PM
^ and you may decide it's not what you want to do.
8/21/2009 5:51:37 PM
Co-oping is a good way to gain experience and still live on campus, if that's your thing. Also, try to avoid graduating for as long as possible. Change majors, add majors, throw in some minors, etc. Just keep that GPA high.
8/21/2009 5:53:10 PM
Definitely stay at least 4.5 yrs.
8/21/2009 5:53:44 PM
Make friends with your RA. They're usually old enough to buy booze and they'll yake you to great parties.
8/21/2009 5:58:46 PM
Suck up to your teacher the first couple weeks of class by participating and doing your work, maybe going to office hours. It'll pay off when you need a point or two on a test or something.
8/21/2009 6:00:31 PM
Cheating is an artformAnyone can do work and get A's...at a State college, that is not much of an accomplishmentBut to cheat your way into a 3.5 or better is truly a rare skill
8/21/2009 6:02:10 PM
Film classes are good for an easy A. Watch movies, bs your way through a paper, get an A!

That list of 30 up above was really good. Agree with most of them, especially studying abroad and using the gym. Those are two things that I didn't do and regret it.
8/24/2011 11:13:09 AM
Do not waste your time taking Japanese no matter how much you like video games or anime or whatever. It's useless and you'll wish you took a useful language later. Also, it's FUCKING HARD and even if someone tells you Dr. Mertz is ok, do not pay them any mind. That person, no matter how much they learn of Japanese, is wasting their time. Any Japanese person you want to meet speaks English. You won't lose geek cred.Do not major in the Humanities, unless you're CERTAIN you want to teach.Law school is not a backup choice if you can't decide what else to do. If you think you might want to consider it, get started NOW. Do pre-law, or be prepared to work for 5 years as a LA or clerk after school to get experience. You're wasting your time if you just BS through a Poly Sci degree and then apply to go right after UG.No runnin by the pool with scissors.[Edited on August 24, 2011 at 11:20 AM. Reason : z]
8/24/2011 11:17:42 AM
^ Hey now, every job I've gotten since graduating was due to my Japanese language classes But I agree if you're only taking it because you like video games or anime, you'll never get to the 400 level required for it to be useful.
8/24/2011 11:21:45 AM
Did you go teach English in Japan? What did you do with it when you got back?

take your freshman classes seriously. yea they're all 100 level bullshit but if you fuck up your gpa now you will regret that shit later when you're trying to pull it up in all 400 level classes. get your A's while they're easy to get.oh and definitely study abroad. idc where you go but you definitely need to take advantage of the direct exchange programs at state. best. college. experience. ever.
8/24/2011 11:28:57 AM
I definitely agree most people should take advantage of study abroad opportunities, they're not for everyone. I met some people abroad that were such a psychological wreck they went home after a few weeks. And I'm sure when they got home proceeded to tell everyone how terrible the country was even though they were barely there
