If the SEC and ACC were combined, how do you think the ACC stack up in toughest places to play? I think the ACC could hold it's own somewhat with FSU, VT, CU, and State, but the ACC stadiums for the most part would be lower on the list, since they have a number of stadiums that seat 80k+. The most interesting thing would be, if places like Davis-Wade Stadium at Mississippi State, Vaught-Hemingway Stadium at Ole Miss, Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium at Arkansas, and Commonwealth Stadium at Kentucky were in the ACC, how would they be ranked. These are usually considered the easier places to play (although Arkansas' stadium is tough, there are just so many in the SEC that are better) in the SEC.Davis-Wade Stadium - Capacity: 55,082Vaught-Hemingway Stadium - Capacity: 60,850 Largest crowd: 62,552Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium - Capacity: 72,000 Largest crowd: 76,728Commonwealth Stadium - Capacity: 67,530 Largest crowd: 71,022Also, less than a day till kickoff!

I liked the endzones better last year, but maybe it'll grow on me. I also liked how the walls of the bottom stands were white with a red stripe on them.
8/31/2007 7:00:44 PM
yeah it looks pretty different, the endzones are pretty much fine with me but i liked the sidelines and the walls
8/31/2007 7:04:15 PM
do you mean you liked how the sidelines were or how they are now? also i wish we would have never gotten rid of the bushes that were along the walls of the stands between the back of the endzones and the 25 yard lines.

Well Clemson, Florida State, and Virginia Tech are the top tier in the ACC in terms of toughest places to play, but then right after that at the top of the second tier is State. A lot of people have State as the consensus #4 in the league. It gets pretty damn loud in Carter-Finley, especially on the field level, but we've still got a ways to go. A couple of years ago, when some Clemson players were asked what were the toughest places to play at in the ACC, they mentioned that State was pretty tough to play at.I think State would be better than Mississippi State, even with the cow bells, b/c C-F is bowled in and Davis-Wade isn't. I'm not sure about Ole Miss. I could see how we are tougher though, considering that we have students on three sides of the stadium. Vaught-Hemingway only has students in part of the bowled in endzone. Also C-F is a complete bowl. I doubt we are better than Arkansas. If Arkansas was in the ACC it'd easily be top 4, but it's only the 7th or 8th toughest in the SEC. Commonwealth Stadium at Kentucky looks so much like Carter-Finley, so I want to call it a draw. SEC fans shake pom-poms and yell, while I know that many ACC fans use everything they can along with their voices to make noise. Virginia Tech fans shake their keys. BC fans stomp on the aluminum stands. State fans usually clap, yell, and I've seen them stomp on the stands as well. The students on the front row in both endzones slap the padding on the wall. GT students do this as well. Before the ACC outlawed them, UVA fans use to have the ThunderStix. A lot of ACC stadiums may not compare in capacity to the SEC stadiums, but the fans more than make up for it by using other methods to make noise besides their vocal chords. LOL at RoyalFlush yes we are top 4 ACC....louder than your fucking Miami team. They only show up when they play FSU so don't give me that. Ask TOB if we are loud or not. It's part of the reason he came here.
8/31/2007 9:58:42 PM
^lol, and that was with only .5-.75 of the stadium full
8/31/2007 10:23:22 PM
haha. it was funny when most of the people left and then tried to get back in when they heard the place explode

Easily one of the top moments in Carter-Finley history for me. It will be talked about for years to come as one of the lone bright spots of the 2006 season. There are just certain moments that you will always remember. Like the GT game in 2005. I was back home in my parent's living room. I had played NCSU vs. GT that afternoon on the NCAA Football game, and I was winning with them on like the 15 yard line with under a minute left. They had a play that went all the way in for the game winning touchdown, and my parents were watching me play. I was like no, the GT curse on State football is even in the video game. Why does this thing have to be so realistic. So later we are watching the game that Thurs. night, and GT goes down the field on the final drive and it looked like they were gonna get a game winning TD. I was like "NOOOOOOO, the GT curse lives on." We hadn't won in Atlanta since like 1989 or 1990. Then Calvin Johnson goes up for the catch, my heart sank for a split second, and as he gets his hands on the ball Marcus Hudson catches him from underneath flipping him back, and Garland Heath who was actually out of position and admitted it later, came in and grabbed the ball, dragged his feet and went through the back of the endzone. I jumped so high in the air, yelled "oh my god!" and started running around the house in delight. Later I came on here and wrote a short blurb about how pretty much all Pack fans felt. I saw it later in some people's aim buddy info and away messages that night. Some people said I should put in on a shirt. It went like this:To some of us the bball and fball games are more than just games. They're like an escape from the rigors of classes, and the rest that life brings with it. We go to the games and yell our heads off, and root with all of our hearts, all because every now and then the Pack brings us joy and pride. We run and jump around our living rooms like we've just won the lottery. We yell at the screen or at the ref while in the stands, even though we know that they can't really hear us. Some of us are even moved to tears, or get a little choked up. We begin to lose faith though when things start to turn for the worst, and when all of it seems all too familiar, and the odds are stacked against us, and we seem certain to lose, a great thing happens. Our prayers are finally answered. It's like Jesus made an appearance on the side of a building, or some other type of miracle occurs, and our faith is restored. Times like these are why we stick with our team no matter what. Why you root so hard, because it's so much sweeter when you've waited for something that is so improbable and unexpected. This is the life of a Pack fan.

I had a friend who bought lifetime rights and he left for the car at the end of the BC game. He was sooo pissed!
8/31/2007 11:00:33 PM
I hope he remembers all those times he was able to leave the parking lot early versus the one time we were able to pull off some amazing shit.

the bushes are gone? and they switched the endzones?...[Edited on August 31, 2007 at 11:07 PM. Reason : asdf]
8/31/2007 11:06:58 PM
Didnt we destroy the bushes when we flooded the field during the big wins?
8/31/2007 11:08:56 PM
The bushes were gone last year. I didn't realize it until just a few months ago, when someone brought it to my attention. I looked at pics from the 2005 and 2006 season, and sure enough they removed them in between those seasons. Why? I do not know. It makes me sad though.
8/31/2007 11:11:02 PM
really?
8/31/2007 11:12:38 PM
Yep. Here's a pic from last year. No more bushes.
8/31/2007 11:18:58 PM
bushes had to go to make room for horses / cops
8/31/2007 11:18:59 PM
Man those stands are so close to the field. You can see why Carter-Finley Stadium has the smallest clearance between the sidelines and the stands of all the ACC stadiums.
8/31/2007 11:46:23 PM
I was the one that brought this pic to the wolf web. Before packpride had it, before any other forum had this pic, I found it on Galins site first, and delivered it to you, my Pack brethren.[Edited on August 31, 2007 at 11:52 PM. Reason : x]
