Play it in the dark with an 8th of bubble kush. Then say its not scary.I almost shit.Twice.
8/21/2007 9:19:17 PM
....sounds like a personal problem.I was playing it in the dark for 2 hours. Not scary. But that's probably because I'm a fucked-up person.
8/21/2007 9:47:03 PM
Hey shrike......looks like 2k hears ya. This is actually pretty cool of them to address this so quickly. Before most of you have even welcomed your BioShock Limited Editions into your loving bosoms, 2K Games is warning that the Big Daddy figurine contained within might just be busted. Luckily, 2K says that they're already on the issue and will have a replacement plan set up soon. While new Big Daddies are being churned out, those with broken figures are going to receive a printed edition of the BioShock art book, "Breaking the Mold." Oh, and 2K's picking up the shipping cost too. While it's an unfortunate circumstance, we're glad to see that 2K is doing the right thing. ... Now about that widescreen issue.

8/22/2007 1:17:21 AM
in fairness, i havent played the full versionstill though this is the scary video game dude imo
8/22/2007 1:21:46 AM
The only scary part is when that mask-wearing houdini splicer pops up right behind you while you're inspecting the desk.AND WHO ELSE IS REALLY REALLY TIRED OF PLAYING WITH PIPES
8/22/2007 7:27:31 AM
Playing in the dark with a good stereo system turned up makes this game creepy as hell. Sound effects and music in this game are fucking great.

Who's playing the PC version? Do you get to use the mouse to manipulate the tiles? If so, PC > 360
8/22/2007 9:28:56 AM
8/22/2007 9:46:53 AM
^^Yeah, you just click and drag tiles around. The water also moves a bit faster to compensate.
8/22/2007 9:58:58 AM
I'm saving the little girls, too.I'm playing the first time through in front of my wife so she can see the storyline. She wouldn't let me kill the girls
8/22/2007 10:26:43 AM
Played the demo for the first time this morning. I admit this whole game almost passed by me. I had no idea that something this massive was in development.Anyway loved the story, the physics, and the gameplay. Oh yea and from some of the earlier postings I saw, go with IGN if you are going to join a online gaming site.If only for the insider message boards.

Note to people who are going for the PC version of this game, make sure you have a quality power supply
8/22/2007 12:07:49 PM
Scary moment #2:In Poseidon's Plaza, behind the blocked door. After cracking the safe."Hmmm... was that statue there a minute ago? AHHHH!1"
8/22/2007 12:25:23 PM
mind the spoilers!btw, the 360 version of the pipe game works really well. It's way more frantic than i thought. I really love this game so far. Taking my time to soak in the game first time through...plus it's on hard so i'm moving slower.
8/22/2007 12:48:59 PM
Do not look online to see what the secret ahievements are. Some big spoilers I wish I hadn't read.
8/22/2007 1:02:46 PM
games I rent, I read all the acheivements so I can get it on one playthroughgames I purchase, play through once without reading anything about it online, then go back through for the acheivements
8/22/2007 2:58:32 PM
Actually bought this game for pc yesterday through steam.com. Downloaded in under an hour, and i've been playing it since then. Looks amazing maxed out at 1920 by 1200. The water effects are awesome too.
8/22/2007 3:54:12 PM
Man I am fucking spoiled.Basically, the only FPS's I have played in the last 3-4 years or so have been big name things like halflife, FEAR, and other major titles. I laugh at some of the graphics in this thing.but so far, its alright
8/22/2007 7:54:57 PM
laugh at the graphics? prolly one of the most badass looking games ever.anyone else finding big daddies tough at first? jesus christ man they take an assload of hits, and my shit feels really ineffective on them. guns feel weak on em, plasmids dont hurt em too much.
8/22/2007 8:30:14 PM
I really noticed the lack of anti-aliasing in the first area before the bathyspherebut once I got into the action, I stopped noticing the defects in the graphics.
8/22/2007 8:33:09 PM
I'm on the 3rd (?) level now, the one at the fishing place, and I've killed about 4 Big Daddies so far.I've found the machine gun to be pretty effective, as well as hiding behind walls or posts and popping out to shoot, Gears of War-style. Also when you get the grenade launcher its pretty damn effective too.
8/22/2007 8:34:16 PM
Fighting the Big Daddies is awesome. Most bad ass enemies ever. And fuck saving the little demon girls, I have strict "kill anything with red eyes" rule.
8/22/2007 8:42:44 PM
http://gamerankings.com/itemrankings/simpleratings.asp?rankings=y#2 of all time.I ordered it from toys r us to take advantage of the madden special. I ordered last wednesday and Madden just got here today. So I probably won't have it until next week
8/22/2007 9:00:57 PM
Those motherfucking cocksuckers.I just checked the order status of bioshock, fucking cancelled. Called them up "I'm terribly sorry, but there is nothing we can do. We can't send you bioshock when it comes into stock, and we can't send you another game either. I hope the rest of your night goes better. "I wouldn't have bought madden if I wasn't going to get another game for 50% off.Remind me to vandalize the next toys r us I see.
8/22/2007 9:19:00 PM
many of you may have received:
8/22/2007 10:40:36 PM
Hmmmm, I missed this the other day, apparently there is something in a config file that hints to a future PS3 version of this game.http://kotaku.com/gaming/rumor/bioshock-ps3-rumor-rekindled-by-code-291944.phpAlso, Ken Levine responded to the widescreen issue just like I thought. He said the game was developed from the ground up with a widescreen FOV, and they only added some verticle view for the 4:3 version. Finally, for PC users, make sure if you want to reinstall the game on a different machine or on your own machine, to run the uninstaller first. If you don't, it'll only let you activate it 2 times before you're locked out.
8/23/2007 12:21:37 AM
I beat it last night. The game has at least two possible endings, depending on what you do to the girls. I'm starting a new game all kill, then I'll try to see if 50/50 gives me a different result. As far as killing big daddies goes, the steel-tip or incendiary arrows are by far the best way I've found so far. They go down pretty easily on medium, and on easy they're a joke. An upgraded xbow and incendiary arrows will take one down in two hits.
8/23/2007 7:47:29 AM
how many hours did it take to play through?
8/23/2007 7:50:36 AM
It's difficult to say, really. Maybe 12 hours?
8/23/2007 7:58:21 AM
only 12? I'm 3-4 hours in. That makes me sad.
8/23/2007 8:07:06 AM
I could be wrong, though. I replayed a lot of it to recap the storyline for the wife, so I can't remember how much of the many many hours of play tuesday and wednesday were original and how many were replays. Also, I ran through the last two levels as quickly as possible because I just wanted to see the end.
8/23/2007 8:25:04 AM
OK I must have not been paying attention when they told me how to do this, but how do you change the plasmids you have currently equipped? Right now I have shock and telekinesis, I need to get fire back.
8/23/2007 11:25:29 PM
you have to go to a 'gene bank' machine, they're located all around, usually near the Gatherer's Garden ones where you buy new plasmids
8/23/2007 11:28:12 PM
Sweet, what do they look like, and do they have an icon on the map?
8/23/2007 11:30:57 PM
I think they're green, not sure. I don't know about the icon but I just finished the 3rd level (The Fishery place) and remember seeing at least 2-3 of them there, so there not too hard to find.
8/23/2007 11:33:22 PM
Anyone know how you get the research achievements? I've taken pictures of just about everyone and gotten A's but I haven't unlocked any achievements except the inital achievement you get for taking a good picture.[Edited on August 24, 2007 at 8:37 AM. Reason : .]

I'm taking my time through this game, making sure I don't miss anything. Also, I'm not using vita-chambers, I just reload from my last save every time I die. It's a lame mechanic and cheapens some of the more intense fights in a game.Honestly though, there is no exaggeration in the reviews of this game. My expectations of a video game have been changed, the bar has been raised. It's essentially Half-Life all over again.
8/24/2007 9:52:20 AM
**SPOILER/HINT/TIPtook me forever to figure out you are supposed to melt the ice with the incinerate plasmid I ended up running in circles for the longest time trying to burn down doors haha
8/24/2007 12:13:19 PM

8/24/2007 1:27:35 PM

8/24/2007 3:17:32 PM
going to buy it nownot sure if it was the darkness on my tv or what but I got super confused while playing the demo, but it was effing awesome. They obviously were fallout fans.
8/25/2007 6:54:09 PM
by default its kinda dark, when you first turn it on, turn up the brightness
8/25/2007 9:14:57 PM
I'd say it's about as dark as a ruined underwater city should be.
