^ I forget what he says when they're leaving the apartment buildings, but I think it's something along the lines of "Smaller monsters, also terrible."I was kind of annoyed by Hud at the beginning, but I came around in the second half. Most of the characters had things about them that annoyed me, but I also felt like they were pretty real characters. I went in with low expectations and was entertained the entire movie.I didn't notice the Dharma logo - wish I'd been sitting next to Gronke..

^you're right

the main thing that annoyed me about the movie is that if i heard "ROB!!!" one more goddamn time i was gonna jam my straw in my ear.but Hud was the best character of the movie. yeah when he said the monster was a terrible thing and then when talking about the little monsters, "Oh thats something else, also terrible.", I about lost my shit.
1/19/2008 4:03:39 PM
he was annoying but reminded me of chris farley
1/19/2008 4:24:11 PM
Even Hud couldn't save this movie from sucking.

i just got back from seeing this movie, and my biggest complaint is that the end of the movie is boring. i was enjoying it right up until marlena gets dragged off by the military guys, but after that nothing interesting happens. i really feel like i could have just read the spoilers for the movie, looked at a picture of the monster and come away with the same experience as actually watching it. no thanks.
1/19/2008 7:20:25 PM
haven't read anything in here since thursday, but i'm seeing this tonight. hope its as good as i've heard
1/19/2008 7:48:01 PM
It's not.
1/19/2008 7:53:37 PM
It is.
1/19/2008 7:56:59 PM
i dug itbut then again i'm not a pseudo-movie enthusiastand Hud was a good character, he's off-timed comments were right on time when the movie would lull

I think you're dead on Wyloch. That can mean lots of things tho. without the date who knows. (you're previous page post. sorry for the confusion.)I think this movie falls into a different genre of movies, and cannot be easily liked or disliked, since there are not many movie's that place the audience in "average joe" in the monster attack. I liked it for its uniqueness that makes you think "what the fuck would I do?" in this situation. I, maybe because I am from NYC, definitely felt claustrophobic when they were trying to escape Manhattan. However I don't get how it kept sneaking up on them. Unless it was that damn fast or it leveled the entire city it could move with ease. Or is there more than 1? Good movie, really creepy in a "what would you do" way.[Edited on January 19, 2008 at 8:01 PM. Reason : I hoped they fucked that thing up]

1/19/2008 8:50:44 PM
I liked the movie, liked Hub's funny comments. "flaming homeless guy" made me LOLhad trouble buying Lilly running all over Manhattan in a pair of high heels. Her feet would've been fucking raw! I was glad she escaped at the end.

ok, after having watched the ending of the movie about 5 times now, the big splash at the end was subtle enough that 90% of the people wouldn't catch it, but if you are looking for it and see it you can easily tell it's a sizable object and makes a big splash. It could have easily been a meteor that contained the alien or something like that, or a satellite. This would be too random to have taken place less than a month before the attack to start. Well done for noticing it and posting this.... whoever it was.I just watched the movie for the second time...and now I have some other friends that wanna see it, so I might catch the 10:20 and watch it for a third. why not. nothing else to do, everyone is afraid of leaving their house because their grass is white.[Edited on January 19, 2008 at 9:14 PM. ^ Someone already said this, but the splash is a satellite. It's the same company as the oil tanker - they go to get the satellite out of the water and disturb the monster.
1/19/2008 9:22:58 PM
^how do we know that?
1/19/2008 9:26:29 PM
^ Because that's what it was.And that's what JJ Abrams said it was.And because it's supposed to be a Lovecraft movie.
1/19/2008 9:29:12 PM
^I mean, in what interview did he say that, or where online did he write that....just wondering

I just can't get over how much pure fun I had going along with it. I musta been in exactly the right kind of mood.

My girlfriend is wrapped around a toilet right now because of the movies use of the hand held camera. I didn't find it bothersome at all but she sure as hell did.I saw the object fall and immediately thought it was the monster.oh well, I liked it. What happened to that bitch that got bitten?
1/19/2008 10:10:15 PM
she blew up
1/19/2008 10:12:14 PM
this federal character seems like a huge douchebag.
1/19/2008 10:20:27 PM
I'm not that big.
1/19/2008 10:22:58 PM
like many others, i was entertained right up till the end. i just can't handle all this built up tension and then nothing to provide some catharsis. as far as the satellite thing, do you mean like it fell from space? thats kinda weirdand i was thinking since they didn't want to disrupt the theme of the handheld camera, they might just show a classified document explaining what happened or something like that. and i guess we're too assume rob and beth died, and the black girl was the only one who made it?[Edited on January 19, 2008 at 10:45 PM. That Emo girl reminded me of the girl that Charlie is infatuated with on "It's always Sunny" and I'm surprised, that for all the stupid stuff the cameraman said during the entire movie, that someone didn't turn around and knock him out. At least a "Shut the fuck up!" would have sufficed. That said, I really enjoyed the movie.
1/19/2008 10:57:47 PM
^^great quality camera too for a regular person to be using. altho I'm glad they didn't do VHS tape type camera for effect
1/19/2008 11:06:23 PM
^ I think it's pretty obvious that the guy who owns the camera (Rob) is sort of a rich guy, so to believe he has an HD camera (which isn't uncommon these days) isn't a bad assumption.
1/19/2008 11:09:56 PM
I went into the movie not having read a single review, only saw one trailer, and avoided information/spoilers at all costs and I have to say:I thought that was one of the best movies I've ever seen. I haven't been that blown away by a film in this way since Children of Men. Maybe I just have a perverse love for the long take. There are some aspects of the presentation that you just have to suspend disbelief to enjoy it. I thought it was damn near perfect. The intro was amazing, the middle was amazing, and the ending was fitting. I don't care how long the battery life of a standard camera is. High heels? Seriously. Also, if there was someway I could kill everyone who was in that theater tonight and not get in trouble, I'd do it. What the fuck happened to common courtesy?[Edited on January 19, 2008 at 11:27 PM. Reason : f]

when i saw it and rob was talking to his mom on the phone and told her jason died this one lady sitting close to me said "who's jason?" i loled.
1/19/2008 11:38:57 PM
I wouldn't say it was the best movie I've seen, but Abrams is a hell of a director. The whole thing being filmed with a hand-held camera is what made the movie. It made the audience feel as if they were right there in the middle of the action and definitely kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I'll definitely go see a sequel if it's made.

I saw it tonight.Thought it was decent.I wish the ending would have been when the copter crashed and the camera is just sitting there. I wish it had sat there for like 5 to 10 minutes with just the sound of bombs and shit going off. No credits. No nothing.

I think it was a nuke. After the first blast, you can see nothing but orange through the rocks, then after they say I love you and such, there's a second blast - the secondary shockwave is characteristic of a nuclear warhead.
1/20/2008 3:29:23 PM
There is no way that a camera could withstand a nuclear blast. And even if it did, wouldn't the EMP generated from a nuclear explosion pretty much fry it?
1/20/2008 4:47:19 PM
Precisely. It wasn't a nuke.
1/20/2008 5:13:52 PM
I agree that it wasn't a nuke, I would say MOAB
1/20/2008 5:15:23 PM
I'm sure there's also no way that a camera would withstand all the shit it had already been through and that someone impaled by a steel rod wouldn't bleed out and be able to run around afterwards. The movie isn't based on reality.
