Has anyone played it on anything similar to this:

cpu: e7200
gpu: 8800gt 512
ram: 2 gigs

Should I go with PC, or just not bother and get the Xbox version?

^ I really don't get that feeling as much as I thought I would.

It is a little weird to press Back and see the Oblivion rest menu.
I suppose you could argue the conversation system is similar, but only on a very basic level. (The dialogue choices are hilarious.)

The gameplay itself feels nothing like oblivion, i.e. managing health, rads, AP, using VATS.

I love the race choice "African American" even though, you know, America doesn't exist. I loled a bit putting such a lame PC thing in there.

Game runs great on my laptop, even better than Oblivion I think.

I ended last night at 2 am inside of the museum of science and industry. I had like 3 shots left of my hunting rifle. I basically had to sneak through the whole subway system eating rabid dog meat in order to stay alive. I was too tired to really appreciate the vault tour in the museum... I think I'm going to teleport back to a town and rejuvenate then go back.

this game is fucking awesome...

Mine is pretty balanced

Small Guns, Speech and Repair are my tagged skills

I went with low strength and charisma, high intelligence and agility, and average perception, endurance and luck

I plan to be an asshole for the most part

Also, since there are hidden bobbleheads that gives you a permanent 1 point bonus to each SPECIAL stat, you shouldnt make any of them higher than a 9 initially

i played for 2 hours last nite - i've never played a game like this and it is a little overwhelming

just getting into megaton and talking to all the people is making my head spin by all the possibilities

i'm going to be eating a lot of radiated meat i suppose

i think i went with charisma, intelligence, and luck

and then speech, science, and small guns

I fell right back into the groove and to me the only learning curve was VATS and getting used to bethdesda's games.. It took me a while to take in fallout though when playing the first two games. it's not too bad, just stick to the major quests for now

One thing I love about this game is that you really feel like a scavenger in a desolate world. Also, the random encounters are incredible, and the dialogs of the characters are much more detailed and believable than in Oblivion. BTW, I did not blow up Megaton. I got booze and poon right outside my house, a shop to cop stuff from, and a personal robot in my crib that tell jokes. Ha!

Is this out on PS3 yet?

I liked Oblivion a lot, and generally hate turn based games fighting, how has the combat system worked out so far?

Its combat system is pretty good actually, but the FPS real-time combat is not all that, its somewhat clunky. One thing that I just found out by watching the video review on GameSpot is that once you finish the main quest the game is OVER, and you can't continue exploring or doing other shit... WTF? I was thinking I could just go ahead and do the Main quests just to get that out of the way then just doing whatever when I finish that...

I ended up playing until 4am last night... its really awesome so far. I'm a bit irked by the FPS feel, but I do like how the VATS was layered on top of it.

As for what I'm running it on:

CPU: Q6600
GPU: 8800GT 512MB
RAM: 2GB

Looks beautiful, and that's just at "high". Haven't tried cranking the graphics to the max yet.

Oh, and I'm still working out of Megaton right now. Set up some roots and am doing a bit of questing from there, running errands, hunting ants, and providing "research" support.

I thought I read that it dumps you out to the screen, but you can still load up that character and continue exploring

or did that mean load up and don't complete your final quest and come back later?

Vista x64
Q6600
8800GT 512mb (OC'd by EVGA?)
4gb RAM

i play it at 1440x 16:10 and it feels awesome. no lags. i had it set the Q settings for me, then bumped up the Res to that from 960x.

the melee does sorta feel like Oblivion, but everything else seems different.

In the first school area, with the area underneath with the ants - is there anything to accomplish there? i killed everything on both floors and underneath and felt like i deserved an award or something

im going to fix that bomb once I get back and pop in some mentats...

I never really put stock into the science/repair/doctor skills in the earlier fo games but they seem much more useful now.

just a raider hideout, I think. there is a girl living near there that you might need to go seek out though

*where the fuck is ian? I hate searching for npcs
*I don't know if any of you are doing this quest, but going through the underground subway in DC is seriously awesome (make sure you are prepared though)

V.A.T.S. Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System

Zooms in near by enemies (probably civilians too) and displays your % chance of hitting whatever body part of the target zoomed, and how much potential damage that you can do to that part selected. You can string together shots on different targets as well.

Basically, its a very sophisticated version of turn-based shooting.

yeah, I'm essentially at the end of the metro line trying to finish the quest since there's no way I can/want to haul ass back to a place where I can teleport back to a safe location.

sucks cause I only have around 15% hp (after eating everything I've found) and scant ammo

hopefully this is over soon!

Anyone figure out if you can read the burned/scorched books you find all over the school or other places? Basically like you could in FO1 or 2? I'm wondering how the hell I can better some of these skills like repair or science without having to dump points toward them every time I level.
