Laughter in the Dark by Nabokov..barely into it yet, though.anyone pick up the new Chabon book yet? Not that I care for a review, I'ma buy it anyway.^^^"exhausting" is a gross understatement. I tried so hard to convince myself I liked him, until I realized that he was more or less fucking with me.[Edited on May 20, 2007 at 10:17 PM. Reason : :-/]

Pynchon is absolutely worth it in the end, but I just can't fly through most of his books.

i just burned through The Moon is a Harsh Mistress
6/13/2007 2:42:22 PM
^^ It's good, though I found the ending completely inappropriate for the way the novel was shaping up. It's touching in some parts, bleak in others: I liked it better than his other novels, mostly because it wasn't a Western. It weirds me out that Oprah chose it for her book club.[Edited on June 13, 2007 at 2:43 PM. ^all I know is it was about the 6 millionth book set in a post-Apocalyptic world to win the Pulitzer for Fiction So I'd probably love it (given my love for Vonnegut, Malamud, Huxley, etc.)I'm reading this:

6/13/2007 2:43:49 PM
^It's fucking amazing, so long as you can get used to his writing style, of course: the punctuation is sparse and the dialogue is likewise all crammed together. But it's so good: I mean, what would happen if the entire world suddenly went blind?[Edited on June 13, 2007 at 2:47 PM. Reason : Here's a hint: it ain't pretty.]

^^^ Yeah, I typically like that sort of thing, too, which is why I was thinking about picking it up. Might have to go ahead and do it once I get a little extra spending money. Thanks. [Edited on June 13, 2007 at 2:46 PM. Reason : ^]

Just finished The Road by Cormac McCarthy.A little less mind-blowing than I'd expected (okay, A LOT less mind-blowing), but it was still really good, and I was so into it that I read it in about two or three sittings. I've been so busy lately it's been hard to make time to read, so it was nice to have something I could knock out in a couple of days.
6/21/2007 11:34:44 PM
I wouldn't put it in my "AMAZING FUCKING NOVELS" category either, but it's at least well written.
6/22/2007 12:02:47 AM
I guess the whole Pulitzer + Believer book o' teh year got my hopes up.
6/22/2007 12:05:43 AM
PLUS OPRAH DONE LIKED IT.
6/22/2007 12:06:29 AM
THAT SHOULD BE A RED FLAG, IF ANYTHINGBut the bitch also chose Anna Karenina, so I guess I can't completely hate her.
6/22/2007 12:07:28 AM
I took the O sticker off before I went to the register. It's not so much that I hate Oprah, it's that I hate it takes Oprah telling people to read The Grapes of Wrath to get it on the bestseller list.
6/22/2007 12:08:49 AM
Ditto.Though I think John Darnielle should call her and tell her to pick The Canterbury Tales. 'Cause then his song might work out.
