Has anyone ever shut their macbook for a few minutes, and opened it back up. The computer is on but the screen stays blank. Now I know its not on hibernate, and no combination of keys/trackpad clicks powers the screen back on. I have not messed with the powersaver settings, and I've read that the screen is activated by the magnetic latch.

not with my macbook, but my fucking Thinkpad from work does that shit all the time. really annoying
2/20/2007 2:21:57 PM
That doesn't happen with my work laptop. Must be your Chinese shit.

if you trained the battery and all that, you just got a defect Cricket, take it back and get another one

who's put Vista release version on a mac yet? i know its been done but i just want personal experiences from the tech talkers.
3/4/2007 6:16:12 PM
^ wondering the same thing... i had been considering it but honestly a little afraid to do it... don't wanna lose my OS X stuff
3/4/2007 6:47:11 PM
When I tried the Vista final release beta on my MacBook, the Mac drivers weren't compatible, so without any hardware acceleration, Vista runs like crap. Plus, Vista wanted a lot more RAM than the 512MB that allowed XP to run just fine. Until BootCamp comes with Vista drivers, I wouldn't even try it.(I don't think that OS X has really been optimized for the Intel chipset yet. My old G4 runs much smoother than my Intel.)
3/10/2007 9:55:01 PM
^it has, it runs 100 times faster than your old G4. Unless you are comparing X to classic
3/11/2007 3:50:55 PM
^ i guess it's just because i had dual g4s

Does anyone know the maximum number of "pixel anomolies" allowed on a mac product before they consider it to be covered under the one year hardware warranty?
4/7/2007 8:06:33 PM
if you have any anomolies, take that shit back. for the price premium they charge on their LCD's, you shouldnt have ANY bad pixels. Plus if you just bitch and moan at the Apple store, they'll do about anything you want.
4/7/2007 8:28:26 PM
I've tried that. Technical service on the phone and the apple store said the same thing. Trust me I was not making light of the issue. My next step would be to contact customer relations.
4/7/2007 8:53:57 PM
btw in reference to a previous post about dual booting vista:i set it up the other night, worked like a charm first try... smooth on my mbp

yeah, that really sucks. I was putting off buying a new computer, waiting for 2 things: 1) Leopard release, 2) update and price drop on the macbook prosI can't wait until October, though.... so hopefully they'll release a new MBP this summer and I will just upgrade to leopard when it comes out.i don't buy the "we shifted resources to iPhone" argument. or at the least, it's a cop-out that they didn't need to go public with. lots of other discussionhttp://davidweiss.blogspot.com/2007/04/apple-slips-leopard-to-oct-2007.htmlhttp://www.tuaw.com/2007/04/12/thoughts-on-the-leopard-delay-announcement-and-tuaw-comments/http://www.tuaw.com/2007/04/12/apple-announces-leopard-delays-due-to-the-iphone/http://arstechnica.com/journals/apple.ars/2007/04/12/breaking-leopard-delayed-until-october-says-applebut we won't lose our faith though, right?http://fakesteve.blogspot.com/2007/04/no-more-os-x-leper-jokes-please.html

If my hard drive is not mounting on a G4 iBook when I try to use the install disks, is this something I could fix using a program like disk warrior? or will I need to take it into the apple store?
4/16/2007 9:02:41 AM
^^ happened to my wife's a couple months ago. They replaced it at the store, no questions asked.
4/16/2007 12:21:05 PM
whats all this shit about macs breaking and having to take them back to the mac store. all i ever see on tv is the cool hip guy talking about how he never breaks and the old nerdy fat guy walking around with a webcam taped to his head wearing a hospital gown blabbing about how sick he is. sounds like false advertising to me.
4/16/2007 12:27:36 PM
it is.I got a mac at work because we're rolling some out to remote users and they wanted me to play around with one. All it does right now is run seti@home. Dont really have any use for it.
4/16/2007 12:34:53 PM
I hope you run it from the command line / console login. Otherwise, you're not as 1337 as you think.

mine hasn't been to a store runs just fine, and i run the piss out of it dailymuch love for my mbp

Does anyone's Macbook, flicker several times when running on battery power? It happens intermittently and its starting to be a pain in the ass. It doesn't happen alot and I don't think I can recreate the problem at the store infront of the tech guys. Which basically means nobody will do anything. Suggestions?
4/18/2007 11:56:38 PM
^ Have you actually tried to get it repaired though. It sounds like you've given up on convincing them without ever trying. I say take it to a mac store, describe the problem, and see if they'll fix it. I know with thinkpads that when customers describe intermittent problems like that, we just put "intermittent screen flickering/failure" on the service request and they end up fixing it without any questions. Since Apple's tech support and customer service is rated well above IBM/Lenovo's (still best among non-macs) I'd imagine they wouldn't be too asinine about fixing it.
4/19/2007 12:00:43 AM
dude seriously? Did you read my previous posts at the top of this page?
4/19/2007 12:03:50 AM
Nope, but that sucks. We always take our customers at their word if they say it's an intermittent problem, as long as the part is under warranty. I mean if they're lying... they're not really going get their problem fixed. Too bad the bookstore isn't an apple certified repair center. Maybe someday.[Edited on April 19, 2007 at 12:12 AM. flickering is usually due to choosing the wrong refresh rate, though i'm not sure that you have a choice if you're on a lappy. you seem to have a LOT of varying problems.... you're sure you didn't cause any of this?
4/19/2007 8:45:50 AM
I can't see how. I've never dropped it, and taken pretty good care of it. It sits on my desktop at work, and at home. Occasionally on my lap and on the couch.
