^^ I doubt anyone needs to see it.
6/23/2006 10:54:45 AM
no, anybody who is not convinced global warming is completely real and completely caused by humans needs to see this movie...you must see this completely factual documentary that has nothing to do with a run at the whitehouse in 2008
6/23/2006 10:56:06 AM
comparing al gore to michael moore is really a slap in the face to al gore. michael moore is all entertainment and sensationalism.
6/23/2006 11:11:41 AM
and comparing al gore's movie to any legitimate documentary is a slap in the face to the creators of any legitimate documentaries
6/23/2006 11:21:26 AM
this is coming from someone who hasn't seen it i assume? i mean it could be, i haven't seen it either, but this is like the people who picket and boycott movies before they've even come out yet.
6/23/2006 11:30:24 AM
you havent seen it either?
6/23/2006 11:37:10 AM
a convenient lie
6/23/2006 11:47:38 AM
^^that's what i said, your point?i'm not making judgements on the movie itself.
6/23/2006 11:56:11 AM
^^thank you.
6/23/2006 1:29:30 PM
According to the film (feel free to dispute with more reputable sources if you have them), the ten years with the highest recorded temperature in history have all been in the past 14 years.
6/23/2006 1:37:26 PM
We've been in a warming trend since the 1850s, so that doesn't really do anything for me.
6/23/2006 1:49:20 PM
This thread is full of nerds and on the moon nerds have their pants pulled down and are spanked with moon rocks.
6/23/2006 2:17:47 PM
I'm confused. You asked for record high temperatures.I gave you record high temperatures. And you say "that doesn't really do anything for me".
6/23/2006 3:18:32 PM
heres some real data from Charlotte over the last ~120 years...THIS PARTICULAR SET OF REAL DATA doesnt convince me of global warminghttp://data.giss.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/gistemp/gistemp_station.py?id=425723140001&data_set=1&num_neighbors=1&print=1
6/23/2006 3:26:12 PM
I guess that's why they call it "global warming" instead of "Charlotte warming".
6/23/2006 3:50:05 PM
well why wouldnt charlotte have an increase in average temperatures over the last century? maybe because theres not enough data to PROVE OR DISPROVE global warming like i've been saying all along???/?
6/23/2006 3:52:37 PM
^^^ You're kidding right? I'm not really up for arguing anymore, but for those that are interested the Charlotte data comes from a pretty cool NASA website http://data.giss.nasa.gov/ where you can look around at all their different data products such asGlobal mean temperature anomalieshttp://data.giss.nasa.gov/work/modelEt/time_series/work/tmp.4_observedTs_12_1950_2010_1951_1980-0/global.gifand Zonal (latitudinally integrated) mean temperature anomolies for the last 50 yearshttp://data.giss.nasa.gov/work/modelEt/time_series/work/tmp.4_observedTs_12_1950_2010_1951_1980-0/map.gif

TreeTwista10, I used to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you were a troll, but I'm now fairly certain that you're just fucking stupid.
6/23/2006 8:27:27 PM
^intelligent commentary.
6/24/2006 12:33:00 AM
^^^ That's just more liberal bullshit.
6/24/2006 12:35:39 AM
Just for fun lets suppose that Global warming is happening and is due in large part to CO2. What are you going to do about it ?
6/24/2006 12:42:43 AM
ghostbusters?
6/24/2006 12:43:35 AM
6/24/2006 9:50:31 AM
Did you not see the two graphs from NASA just above?

set america on a track to improve it's fuel efficiency for one thing.require efficiency for appliances for another.invest more money in alternative fuels.there are lots of things which can add up to improving (or at least not exacerbating) the situation[Edited on June 25, 2006 at 1:26 PM. Reason : can't type]
6/25/2006 1:25:11 PM
Nothing. There is nothing we can do about it. We, as indivuduals and as a society, are completely powerless. It is impossible to drive fuel efficient cars, to drive less, to not drive at all. It is impossible to fly only when necessary. It is impossible to use energy efficient appliances and fixtures. Planting trees? FUCK THAT. Cleaner power sources? FOR BITCHES! Making the world a better place? FAGGOTRY AT ITS FINEST.
6/25/2006 1:26:43 PM
^^ all those things make life more expensive, why do you hate the poor ?
6/25/2006 2:40:52 PM
well, i for one, think that being able to sell our cars worldwide might HELP our economy, but who knows.starvation because of droughts also hurts the poor.
6/25/2006 2:43:35 PM
if this movie was made by someone other than al gore, $texas says at least half you bitches screaming bullshit would believe it
6/25/2006 2:46:08 PM
^ I'd dobut it. Oil companies will still have scientists against it.
6/25/2006 3:09:03 PM
^^no one would have picked up the movie if it wasn't someone like al gore on the poster.
6/25/2006 3:11:32 PM
that's not the point
6/25/2006 3:13:59 PM
i think we should just listen to all the wonderful counterarguments put forth by experts like rush limbaugh, who claims that "since the ice caps havent melted since the 50s when this was first suggested, why should we expect it to happen now?"i mean, look at the great arguments put forth by treetwista and mathman in this thread. some compelling evidence there, folks.why is this such a partisan issue? oh, wait, a democrat made the movie, it must be more liberal propaganda.
6/25/2006 3:24:38 PM
6/25/2006 3:26:59 PM
I personally wouldn't give a shit if Newt Gingrich or Sen. McCain made it.
6/25/2006 6:53:32 PM
Yeah, because you believe otherwise... for some reason that you've been unable to articulate in this thread. Oh, and your counter-arguments were shown to be invalid. But don't let that cause you to reevaluate your position or anything, lest you become a flip-flopper.
6/26/2006 12:55:57 AM
HEY, I'LL BELIEVE YOU GUYS WHEN THE EARTH SETS SOME RECORDS FOR BEING HOT...
6/26/2006 1:09:52 AM
Fuck it... nothings gonna happen in America to combat global warming... We just dont care enough/won't believe anything scientists tell us. Maybe Europe and China of all people will head this off. Does it not make you sad that CHINA is more foreward thinking on this subject than the US?
6/26/2006 12:36:52 PM
hey remember when all the continents were connected as Pangaea? and then they split apart? was it humans who caused that?
6/26/2006 12:44:48 PM
treetwista, i can appreciate that you cast doubt onto these ideas.i, for one, am very skeptical about most things.the difference with this topic, is that the longer that we are skeptical about this idea, the harder a solution will be.also: i don't see much bad about lowering our impact on the environment. even if our impact on the climate is not great, i think it's safe to say that polluting our earth less is certainly not a BAD thing.
6/26/2006 12:57:02 PM
i am all for cleaner fuels, more efficient transportation, engines...reduced emissions...all that good stuffim just not necessarily sold on the immediacy or severity of the issue...i dont know one way or the other how much of a problem global warming might be, what impact we would have if any if we changed our ways, how we could change a country like china, who in 10-15 years will probably be emitting more co2 than the us even if we dont change our policies, etci've seen too much supposed evidence for both sides to have a solid belief in either one
6/26/2006 1:08:13 PM
^He's saying all that needs to be said for our side (imo). Yeah I haven't backed anything up b/c I dont spend time researching stuff for you guys. I realize it kills my credibilty, but I don't really care in this internet realm.
