Let's hire Pete Carrill. I'd love it, but seeing the real deal Princeton O on the court coached by a old white guy that looks like he should be teaching your physics class (and dead) would cause our stupid fans to implode. That would be so awesome.
3/21/2006 12:09:40 PM
Hahah see this is my main gripe with the Herb haters....They cannot name a SINGLE coach that would be interested in coming here and would actually be an improvement over Herb.
3/21/2006 12:16:42 PM
I think pete carrill really is dead isn't he?

HEY COME COACH AT STATE! IF YOU DONT WIN A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP IN 2 YEARS YOUR FANBASE WILL HATE YOU! YOU WILL LOVE COACHING AT STATE AS LONG AS YOU CAN WIN NATIONAL TITLES!
3/21/2006 12:36:45 PM
3/21/2006 12:47:13 PM
who would WANT to coach here? certainly nobody who likes their fans to actually support them
3/21/2006 12:55:34 PM
i'll do it, my recreation team i coached this year went 9-3... no loosing streaks longer than one game, and we made it to the championship game...

it could mean we're 17th just as easily
3/21/2006 1:11:41 PM
more importantly...who would come play here?? if u get an offer from NCSTATE, you will probably be in consideration from other top ACC schoolswhy would u want to play for an offense that wont allow you to be a playmaker?
3/21/2006 1:22:26 PM
are you referring to our current offense?if so, see http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=178&p=9&cfg=bb&c=4&yr=2007

I ask this question to people all the time too .. few have any ideas. On a radio call in, someone gave the best answer I have heard so far. Mike Montgomery. Think Pitino/Calipari model. College success, get the money in the pros, hate it, suck at it, go back to college. Success at Stanford with Pac 10 titles and top 5 rankings (and tough academics). But even in 18 years at Stanford, just one final four. http://www.nba.com/coachfile/mike_montgomery/index.html?nav=pageI'm telling you, its gonna be hard to find someone to get beyond what Herb has done. You could take another up and comer and 5 years later, be no better or even worse. Tough to call ....
3/21/2006 3:26:52 PM
we could always keep herb and somehow get roy and k fired...then we could definitely contend for acc reg season and acc tourney titles as well as recruiting

HEY COME COACH AT STATE! IF YOU DONT WIN A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP MAKE MORE THAN 1 SWEET SIXTEEN IN 2 10 YEARS YOUR FANBASE WILL HATE YOU! YOU WILL LOVE COACHING AT STATE AS LONG AS YOU CAN WIN NATIONAL TITLES DO BETTER THAN LOSING IN THE ROUND OF 64 AND 32 ALMOST EVERY YEAR!
3/21/2006 3:31:34 PM
thing is, herb is only 43. this isn't the way i want to be able to compete with duke, but k will be retired soon. we are improving though. the overall athleticism from this year's team to next year's team is skyrocketing though (evtimov leaving and probably brackman as well). fells, grant, costner, ferguson, simmons... these guys are all athletic. i definitely see us being able to do more with our offense.

3/21/2006 3:33:12 PM
HEY I'M A FUCKING IDIOT! AN 83 MIRACLE TITLE WITH AN OVERRATED COACH ENTITLES STATE TO OVERACHIEVE EVERY YEAR NOWADAYS AGAINST FAR BETTER COMPETITION! ANY RETARD SHOULD BE ABLE TO COME IN AND COMPETE WITH SHITTY BBALL TEAMS LIKE DUKE AND NORTH CAROLINA
3/21/2006 3:35:29 PM
I'm no Herb Hater, but once again, I'll throw in my suggestion. What about Murray State's coach Mick Cronin He was an assistant for Bob Huggins at Cincinnati and Rick Pitino at Louisville. But the "name one person crowd" keeps on ignoring me.
3/21/2006 6:14:27 PM
theres about 5 teams Roy lost to year to year when coaching at KansasIowa St. OklahomaOklahoma St. Missourinow, Missouri recently abandoned their coach, but it seems the Iowa St. and Oklahoma losses were the most recent and happened almost every year. Colorado a few times, but never NC State...soooo looks like we need to look into that department of coaching, link http://www.kusports.com/basketball/history/stats_game_by_game/williams_stats_89-2003.html[Edited on March 21, 2006 at 6:53 PM. Bill Tubbshttp://www.soonerstats.com/bb/coaches/details.cfm?OUCoachID=1015-9 in the NCAA, consistently beat Roy at Kansas
3/21/2006 7:23:20 PM
3/21/2006 7:27:03 PM
last time i checked, herb has made the tourney more times in a row than him and his team made it to the second round with a 10 seedhow would that be a step up?OU gets nothing but great recruits every year and ends up squandering it[Edited on March 21, 2006 at 7:29 PM. Reason : asdf]
3/21/2006 7:28:27 PM
we've got narrow-minded herb haters here.their only concern is to beat UNC, not the NCAA.
3/21/2006 7:30:40 PM
Mike Anderson from UABHe might actually have a recruiting edge over Roy and K with some ghetto kids because he's black.Plus he's done more with less than Herb over the past couple of years, and his teams play very uptempo.[Edited on March 21, 2006 at 7:33 PM. Reason : 2]
3/21/2006 7:30:51 PM
people just need to face itwe aren't going to get anyone better than herb right now- playing 3rd fiddle in the ACC isn't exactly a dream job, and the fact that we have such hostile and ungrateful fans makes it even more unappealingwhy would we want a mid-major coach to take over?we aren't the dynasty people wish we were and the next NCAA championship won't come anytime soon- but i can bet it would happen sooner with herb than anyone we could nab right now
3/21/2006 7:35:29 PM
bullshitWe'll never win a championship with that shitty offense we run.NC State doesn't have to play 3rd fiddle to Duke and UNC, we could return to prominence. All it would take is a good coach. I think Mike Anderson or Mick Cronin might be that coach.Have some faith.
3/21/2006 7:41:00 PM
yeah all we need is some mid-major coach to come in and lead us to the final four since all the other parts are in placeright
3/21/2006 7:45:25 PM
3/21/2006 7:49:07 PM
hey lets get a coach from the big 10!you know, because they're all doing so well in the tournament right now
3/21/2006 7:53:38 PM
^Hewitt took Georgia Tech to the finals 2 years ago. Where was he before that job? Sienna. He's already accomplished more in 5 years than Herb has done in 10, despite their setback this year.Yes, a good coach from a mid-major program can lead a program to the final four in a short time.[Edited on March 21, 2006 at 7:54 PM. 3/21/2006 7:53:48 PM
he also had fucking jarret jack as their point guard and a ton of other talentlook how well they are doing noweven Doh had a final four appearance, so that argument is fucking lame
3/21/2006 7:55:32 PM
Hewitt recruited his playersDoh inherited hisSo your argument is lame
3/21/2006 7:56:36 PM
both coaches sucked and we able to get to the final 4it happens

3/21/2006 8:14:24 PM
3/21/2006 8:26:25 PM
3 NCAA tournament appearances including a trip to the finals, get your facts right. How many did Herb have in his first 6 years as coach?
3/21/2006 8:33:51 PM
maybe after next season when both GT and Wake have losing seasons, we can get 2 shitty coaches for the price of one
3/21/2006 8:34:35 PM
We're gonna have a losing season next year as well.Have you seen our roster?
3/21/2006 8:35:06 PM
yeah, it's not that bad.we've got this extremely high standard.if our roster isn't packed with all-americans, we're teh lose.
3/21/2006 8:36:27 PM
yeah ced and gavin really look like they're going to get worse next seasoni mean they both played like total ass at the end of the season while our seniors saved the day
3/21/2006 8:38:10 PM
No way we have a losing season next year, mayyybe in ACC play, but I doubt that even. Yes we will miss Cam and Toney, but its not like we are losing two Hodges (and ya see how much of an effect that had anyways this year). Thats the positive side of having a wellbalanced team and not relying on just two or three guys.
3/21/2006 9:35:27 PM
The big thing about next year is going to be ballhandling. You saw what happened to Wake. I don't think Atsur can handle pressure... let's hope Ferguson lives up to his billing
3/21/2006 9:38:55 PM
