3/19/2006 8:37:44 PM
not with the fells / grant / bennerman / bethel / atsurherb played other seniors, so we lost.

haha, seriously, josh, you still support a coach who is a nice guy at the expense of winning games?well, no wonder you want herb to stick around.some of us want to win championships.
3/19/2006 9:11:43 PM
haha wait wait...so lemme get this straight. youre bashing herb haters yet youre saying we lost the game because of herb essentially...so youre happy that we just made it to the NCAA tournament? and its ok just to play seniors and who cares if we win if a few ppl are happy???? no wonder youre a herb supporter!!!!you basically just said Herb made decisions that lost us an NCAA 2nd round game yet you fully support him enough to make this thread????your posts reflect the mediocrity that our athletic department is happy with, thus keeping Herb around causing us to never grow and just be happy with "being there", being an honorable mention

3/19/2006 9:20:14 PM
that logic doesnt really work. and its retarded for a coach anyways. if you are playing at the COLLEGE level of sports your coach should not worry about hurting anyones feelings to play a better player. that mentality stopped in middle school recreation sports for any good teams.hey guys look..when you are seniors, no matter whether we are winning or losing an NCAA tourney game i will let you play, even if it means giving up all hope of winning the game and embarrasing yourself on the way out!instead, to "help in the long run" he should have let our younger players play and get THEM experience. get the people who arent doing anything AND on the way out some more ncaa experience.THAT will help in the long run.i normally dont post in sports talk but i mean come on listen to your logic
3/19/2006 9:29:59 PM
haha, as long as we don't win games. we wouldn't want to do that.
3/19/2006 9:30:10 PM
^^ It's well know that JoshNumbers' stupidity is only eclipsed by BridgetSPK in sports talk
3/19/2006 9:33:45 PM
yea i think im done in here
3/19/2006 9:34:35 PM
Freshman: Golly coach, why don't you put in an athlete who scores points?Herb: Because Evtimov is a Sr. When you're a Sr., I'll do the same for you.Freshman: But I suck!Herb: You betcha.
3/19/2006 9:36:47 PM
I would think that assuming we know the motivation behind herbs decisions in that game is foolish. The guy isnt an idiot. He also isnt the best coach in college bball. He is what he is and we lost to a great team. BUT playing evtimov THAT much with an ankle so shot up with cortizone that he couldnt feel his own dong is questionable when he got taken to school time and time again in that game..... Herb will take heat from the staff and admin about that I am sure, will it make an impression?Maybe Herb will learn for next time? (cause there will be a next time)I hope so....
3/19/2006 9:37:29 PM
no he won't learn. he never does.i mean come on, the uptempo game, unleashing our athletes, playing our best players, was clearly the way to go. it's what got us back in the game.so he shoulda learned. it was obvious to everyone what we needed to do in the second half. but no. second half evtimov's still starting, our athletes are on the bench, and we slow down the tempo and play our garbage offesne jacking up threes instead of driving to the basket. herb never shows signs of learning. he's too extremely stubborn to ever be a great coach.
3/19/2006 9:40:49 PM
i care about our players feelings, not more then winning, but its part of supporting our team.[Edited on March 19, 2006 at 9:45 PM. Reason : -]
3/19/2006 9:42:00 PM
ohmy what a great point you have there
3/19/2006 9:44:28 PM
at least i support our players
3/19/2006 9:48:11 PM
If we had won that game and sat evtimov and atsur, what would that do for feelings/morale in the next game? I bet they would all have been lost in the glory of winning and forgotten who sat and who played.... I know I sure would have been also....
3/19/2006 9:51:10 PM
^^ we support our players too.its called us wanting them to WIN.
3/19/2006 10:03:36 PM
Okay so when Coach K benched senior Nate James for freshman Chris Duhon and they won the national championship was that a bad move? What about when he reduced senior Greg Koubeck's role to make more room for freshman Grant Hill in '91? Was that dumb? What about when Freshman Marvin Williams started stealing senior Jawad Williams crunch time minutes last season?Herb wouldnt even PLAY Tim Wells (who was a decent player) on senior night so i find it hilarious that he cares so much about this shit now.
3/19/2006 11:36:23 PM
I wonder what Steve Lavin would do if he were our coach? (Besides smile for the camera and our future recruits)

next year the only reminant of our broken offense will be atsur
3/20/2006 9:10:02 AM
^^^ those are great stats
3/20/2006 10:20:49 AM
1. UConn still lacks a killer instinct. Although the Huskies played much better in the win against Kentucky in the second round, Jim Calhoun's club was unable to put the Wildcats away when they had Tubby Smith & Co. on the ropes early on. If they don't find a way to be able to put the finishing touches on teams earlier, they won't be snipping any nets. 2. Texas got much stronger guard play from Daniel Gibson, A.J. Abrams and Kenton Paulino. If the Longhorns can continue to get balanced scoring up front and on the perimeter — and defend like they have done in the past two games against Penn and N.C. State — they should be able to get past West Virginia. 3. Although N.C. State wasn't able to get past the second round, Herb Sendek is still one of the most underrated and underappreciated coaches in the country. Just remember — he's got to go up against Duke and North Carolina every year — and he's also got to try and go toe-to-toe with those guys in the recruiting circles. 4. North Carolina wasn't quite as good as the Tar Heels fans started to believe they were. To reiterate, UNC had a tremendous season — going way beyond anyone's wildest dreams. If someone had told Roy Williams that his team would advance to the second round of the NCAA tournament before the season began, here's betting he would have taken it in a heartbeat. 5. Conference USA is better than the Patriot League. No kidding (sarcasm). Memphis, the cream of the crop in C-USA, knocked off the Patriot League's top team — Bucknell. Now John Calipari's Tigers have a pair of notches on their belt against Oral Roberts and Bucknell. Next up: Bradley. 6. Villanova's Jason Fraser could be a factor before it's all said and done. He only played five minutes in the win against Arizona, but the Wildcats may need him against a big, physical Boston College frontline that features Craig Smith, Jared Dudley and Sean Williams. 7. Arizona should be back among the elite next year. The only significant loss will be that of senior Hassan Adams, but he'll be replaced by injured Jawann McClellan and incoming freshman Chase Budinger. The loss of fellow senior Chris Rodgers is actually addition by subtraction. Junior guard Mustafa Shakur played his best basketball in the NCAA tournament and he'll have a core that includes Marcus Williams and junior Ivan Radenovic back. 8. We didn't really learn this today, but John Beilein is among the best coaches in the country. C'mon, how else can you explain West Virginia going to the Sweet 16 two years in a row? The Mountaineers don't have any big-time recruits. It's called coaching and player development. 9. Patrick O'Bryant could be the best 7-footer left in the tournament. The Bradley sophomore dominated his head-to-head matchup with fellow 7-footer Aaron Gray, holding the Pittsburgh big man to a dozen points and putting up 28 points and 7 boards in the upset against the Panthers. http://msn.foxsports.com/cbk/story/5428300

you made the statement that he left in evtimov since he's a senior.. is that somehting herb said or did you make that up ?
3/20/2006 3:06:09 PM
he didnt even leave him in. evtimov was on the bench at the end. so was tony.cam was the only senior on the court, and that was because he was playing well.
3/20/2006 3:09:41 PM
ok so that asshatery about him caring about the senior's and not winning was made up !?
3/20/2006 3:13:54 PM
get out of sports talk if you didnt even watch the gameev. was in the whole game, benched at the very end
3/20/2006 3:38:10 PM
yes, and the fact that he was benched at the very end PROVES he wasn't being left in because he was a senior.
3/20/2006 3:39:12 PM
also....fells / grant were playing transition ball, they were disregarding our offense, we all know what happened to hodge when he shunned the offense. if you dont do what herb says, you sit. besides, they werent going to sustain that kind of intensity, and we would have been beatin even worse in that scenario.
3/20/2006 7:00:56 PM
Let it go.Its over.
3/20/2006 7:16:27 PM
3/20/2006 7:30:07 PM
i don't think fells and grant got benched because they disobeyed herb. herb isn't an idiot, it was obvious that they were lighting it up. i think someone else said that it seemed like herb was putting in the backups to try to create a spark that would carry over to the starters. it didn't.
