Have the Panthers ever traded up/down in the 1st rounds of drafts? Will Eric Shelton not be sufficient for the backup RB? I personally would like to see Panthers address the TE position or Safety position for first round, then choose a RB in later round.Although Panthers recently signed two new LBs to fill the OLB positions, Morgan's durability has always been an issue as well at MLB. I would like to see maybe D'Qwell Jackson or even Stephen Tulloch for fun at the OLB position.

they just talked about the panthers on the draft special show, they got picked to go to the SB as long as they stay healthy. they also said that RB was not a desperate need for us b/c shelton was probably going to be a factor in the bruising running game. not sure what to think of their analysis though b/c everyone else said shelton needed some more development.

^^^ yeah shelton could turn out to be a decent back for us and we arent hurting at RB as bad as everyone thinks. Keep in mind he was a later round back in a year when RB was not very strong. We never really expected him to be our #1 and they still do not think he will pass Goings on the depth chart. He has potential though in his size and runnign style for us if he improves his mental game and stays healthy. If a RB is available at 26 that has as much talent as anyone else remaining, then we will draft him. If there is a OLB, lineman, or TE with more talent than any of the RBs available at 26, then we will pick that guy.Draft for talent, not position. Thats what were gonna do. Panthers have a history of doing so.

and that is the smart thing to do

James Anderson On winning the strength and conditioning award at Virginia Tech: It's the highest honor in our weight room. It consists of speed, agility and explosion. It includes the four major lifts that we do, and also the 40-yard dash. It pretty much encompasses everything. On how proud he is of winning that award: I was the only one to win that four times in a row, so it's something I'm definitely proud of. this guy sounds like an incredible athlete to do this, hopefully he'll put on a little more weight, perhaps he'll some PT this year.

^i like!wonder if deangelo will do any kick/punt return?
5/1/2006 12:21:36 PM
we are going to be nasty this season
5/1/2006 1:17:34 PM
^^I'd really like to see what Deangelo Williams can do on kick/punt returns. It'd be great if we didn't have to depend on a guy as crucial to the offense as Steve Smith(although he's been sick nasty on returns his whole career).
5/1/2006 3:25:13 PM
wow, not bad, just hope keyshaun can do something right
5/1/2006 3:32:28 PM
What have people been saying about the shape kris jenkins is in? Even if he is 80% of the player he used to be this defense should be nasty.
5/1/2006 3:39:52 PM
i didnt realize goings was FB size
5/1/2006 3:45:12 PM
as long as we stay healthy (knock on wood), we are a superbowl contender. last year we would have been if we were healthy, not to mention the 7-9 season. the point is that FOX is the best damned coach in the NFL, he signs good players, has a great coaching staff, and makes sure his players develop not only individually but as a team.
5/1/2006 5:03:37 PM
i was thinking that deangelo's all purpose yards were return yards but they're pretty much all catches out of the backfield so i guess he wont be returninggood luck to Jamal Robertson
5/1/2006 5:08:01 PM
didn't keary colbert have a couple punt returns last year?
5/1/2006 6:16:49 PM
it would be awesome to keep the principals healthy for the important parts of the season.IOW, foster, jenkins, smiff.
5/1/2006 6:20:56 PM
i maybe wrong but i dont think colbert returned anyi know smith, gamble, smart and robertson all returned at least one kick or punt
5/1/2006 6:21:28 PM
i love that steve smith

interestingcourse i think if i partied superbowl style in miami for 2 weeks i would be broke as shit
5/10/2006 9:43:22 AM
you could buy options early in the year for teams that have a good chance of going to the playoffs, if they do well their option price will go up. then you sell, and make some cash.
5/10/2006 9:46:12 AM
what do you guys think about the free agent signing of Jovon Bouknight (UW) Damn jovon is an all american reciever from wyoming. how did he not go in the draft.http://wyomingathletics.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/bouknight_jovon00.html
5/10/2006 10:17:40 AM
he can't hurt us, it looks like he would be a good possession type receiver in a few years.I can't wait to see our offense at work. if jake can eliminate his customary gift to the other team each game, we should be lightin' the scoreboards up. that coupled with a probable top 10 defense....i'm giddy about this season. we do have a stiff schedule this year though.

^the guy that wrote that is an idiot he put the 4 nfc east teams in the top 5...thats ridiculous
5/12/2006 2:40:49 AM
yeah seriously, washington ranked over carolina??? you gotta be shitting me, i like brunell ever since he was with the jags, but he is getting old. and then he says that the bears have the same team basically and that they are going to be better than us when we just barely stomped them in the play-offs?? c'mon dude, go find another sport that you can try to spew bullshit and get people to believe you.
Keep in mind he was a later round back in a year when RB was not very strong
When I read this and thought about it I couldn't decide whether to bust out laughing or get pissed off...ill take the laugh route cause I like beers and bikes...but not only was Shelton a 2nd round pick (not later round), he was the 5th running back selected in the draft in one of the STRONGEST RUNNING BACK DRAFTS EVER...THERE WERE THREE RUNNING BACKS PICKED IN THE TOP FIVE PICKS (cadillac, ronnie brown, ced benson)That said, best of luck to Deshaun, Deangelo and Eric
