I know what ya mean. Being caught in a squall offshore is not fun in any boat......much less a CC. I hate being the tallest object around with a shitload of lightning rods sticking up in the air. Have you ever heard the rods start to "buzz" when a nasty storm is near?
7/29/2005 3:08:15 PM
Nope, but I have been within 75 yards of a water spout
7/29/2005 3:11:07 PM
they say if you're in the middle of a lake during a thunderstorm, without a motor you can do one of two thingspaddle or prayi'd do both

You boys going this weekend.....catch em up. I'll be stuck at work.
7/29/2005 3:54:40 PM
I might cut loose to Wachapreague, VA for some light tackle Bluefin Action. Nothing like catching a tuna on a jig
7/29/2005 3:59:59 PM
i might be sailing a lightning this weekend here in wrightsville.Atlantic Coast Championships

dgm: We canned our planned trip to the outer banks due to no wind and shitty rainy weather. I can deal with rain as long as its blowing. But hell if I'm gonna drive out to the outerbanks to sit in the middle of the ocean in the rain and not go anywhere. No blow no go As for my lightning story, 59' carbon fiber mast in the middle of a squal coming over cherry point. We go to take in sail, and as I reach up to the luff bolt rope to start tugging down, I get a nasty nasty shock. It was more than likely static buildup from the wind blowing across the highly conductive carbon fiber stick, but it still made my hand and arm clinch up for a good 10 minutes.[Edited on July 31, 2005 at 3:45 PM. I was down for Alex last year. Thank god that storm fell apart. Could have been nasty.
7/31/2005 3:51:03 PM
Was that on the Cotton Picker Tad?Had a nasty squall this weekend. Winds shot up from 10-40 Had we not taken down the spinnaker right before (all while doing a "power reach" haha (we got lots of comments about "how the hell did ya'll fly the kite at that angle??")) . Then 2 head sail changes in the middle of it. What fun me on foredeck [Edited on July 31, 2005 at 6:31 PM. Reason : ]

This thread makes me happy. Holy hell I saw some sick boats this weekend, power and sail...to bad I forgot my camera. lolllll One of the guys at our marina had the most gorgeous little 18 or 19 foot CC. Turns out they built it themselves. His son works at Shearline and helped on the boat. Beautiful boat for sure, but for a boat that size, I think I'd rather just snap up a decent production boat for $25K than spend a year and half building one. lollll
7/31/2005 6:28:23 PM
How did you fishing guys do that went to oriental (if you did)?
7/31/2005 6:31:55 PM
I didn't fish in the tourney. Pretty much just worked on the skiff and helped a buddy get the fuel tank out of his sailboat. I did manage to go snag a few puppy drum yesterday though. The tourney was kinda slow. There were only 9 tarpon caught yesterday. Don't know about today cause I didn't feel like waiting around for them to tally up today's catches. My other crew was in the fish both days and couldn't buy a bite. They had one knockdown that was almost surely a tarpon, but it didn't jump before coming unbuttoned...therefore, twas not a scoring fish. Oh well. Land Support Party Patrol did well. Weather was kinda snotty down there today. lol
7/31/2005 6:45:44 PM
On a good note, I was approached with a job offer that would put me on the water daily...as an instructor/partner at the sailing school's new power boat division. Looks like I'm buying a new boat. x 1,000,000!!!!!!!

awesome, I think after this weekend, I am going to officially be in the boat market
8/1/2005 5:31:17 PM
My original fishing plans and my back up plans both got washed out this weekend. Now, I'm cooked for a few weeks.
8/1/2005 5:32:51 PM
maugan: that sucks, but i know what you mean. I was down in wilmington this weekend and it was the lightning acc's and they had to wait until 3 to get the first race in, because of weather. they got 5 in by the end of the regatta though, so that's good.36 boats, good turnout. Anyone coming to SAYRA this upcoming weekend?
8/1/2005 5:46:50 PM
^^ damn, all we were able to do is go flounder gigging

wow, I can get a 22' for cheaper than I was expectingI could probably get by with a 19, but there isn't alot of room^ yep[Edited on August 2, 2005 at 4:55 PM. Reason : s]
8/2/2005 4:55:20 PM
this boat is faster than your car.
8/2/2005 7:08:21 PM
What kind of CC are you looking for?
8/3/2005 10:16:06 AM
prefer a V hullset up for offshore light tackle
8/3/2005 10:37:34 AM
I'll keep an eye out for you.
8/3/2005 10:43:54 AM
it would take a millionare to get a boat like that and keep it up to take out every day
8/3/2005 10:58:45 AM
If you are going to be doing some offshore light tackle, a deep vee might not be suitable. A ture deep V like an Albe or Carolina Classic type boat will rock like a cradle at rest. Not very good when you are casting and trying to keep you balance. Now, the ride in it will be awesome. Look for a hull with a modified V or variable deadrise. It is a nice middle ground and will be a stable fishing platform, but of course you will sacrifice a little ride.

i ♥ that S curve in the fountain hulls... so sexy and you can pic one out from way across the water[Edited on August 3, 2005 at 3:12 PM. Reason : .]
8/3/2005 3:12:39 PM
a friend of mine has been looking at getting one of these, I may try to buy one alsohttp://www.precisionmarineinc.com/seaskimmer19c.htm
8/3/2005 3:16:07 PM
That one would be good in the sound but will pound hard in most any chop/swell.
8/3/2005 3:27:35 PM
I figured it would be rough in the chop, but would be ok on a decent dayit would be good in the flats, I think the hull design is interesting though... still has some flare to ithe fished one all weekend and said it was a really dry boatmy friend can get them for ~21 new
8/3/2005 6:52:40 PM
i'm not a huge fan of sound fishing... i like trolling ... its fun driving around with 50 zilllion lines in the water
8/3/2005 7:55:32 PM
but i can't afford the gas to get a boat to the gulf worthy of going that far in.
8/3/2005 8:01:41 PM
That hull looks like a dentists dream
8/3/2005 10:22:34 PM
he loved it, I'd like to fish it one day and see what I thought about itI'm pretty sure I'm gonna clear out some funds and buy a bot nowanybody wanna buy a 2002 yamaha grizzly 660or a 2004 kawasaki zx6r

I cannot BELIEVE the incredible success of what was intended to be a parody thread....How could there have been this much unfulfilled latent demand for a boating thread?I didn't even say anything about Joie.Everybody still boating off at work?
8/4/2005 11:08:00 AM
I had been considering a boating thread but had no idea how well it would dogg
8/4/2005 11:10:53 AM
My family has a 30' Grady White and another boat (not sure what that one is). I like it :-). I think soon my dad will move the Grady White down to our house in Marathon and get a new one for up here. Oh and our beach house is in Atlantic beach, anyone live/vacation around there and like to fish?
8/4/2005 11:23:00 AM

I actually considered a 1903 CCI think I'm gonna get a new 21' sea boss, but my options are still open
8/5/2005 3:57:45 PM
The ski boats and cruisers and sport yachts were fun but I think the sportfishing boats were my favorites.
