but they at least have a competitive team right now, which is probably enough for their fanbase.and it's hard to justify gambling on Rivers. they could go from a competitive team to a basement team again very quickly, which is quite a risk.I think the option to trade Brees is there... but in today's NFL, blockbuster trades are pretty rare. In reality, any team that picks up Brees will lose at least a half season while he gets up to speed on the offense. I think the offer would have to be REAL good to pull the trigger on a trade.
10/6/2005 4:20:51 PM
Oh i wasnt saying trade Brees now. that would be incredibly stupid, IMOi think you trade him at the end of the season. There are like 8 teams out there that could be competitive with a competent QB.did anyone SEE Antonio Gates last night? I think i could throw for 75 yards a game with that guy catching passes.... he's indefensible at times
10/11/2005 6:32:48 PM
the only team dumb enough to trade brees at the end of the season, is the same team dumb enough to draft rivers....so he has a shot
10/11/2005 6:34:22 PM
its not dumb to trade an above average QB who is a free agent to be (and wants ~8 million a year) when you have an above average one backing him up for $6 million a year...Especially when you are a borderline SUper Bowl contender and could use help in other areas...
10/11/2005 6:39:00 PM
above average? dude he hasnt even fucking played
10/11/2005 6:42:12 PM
well yeah thats just my opinionthe Chargers know what they have better than I do in this case...but with LDT, Gates, and McCardell.... honestly any reaonable QB is going to look pretty good. They need a game manager not a savior and that should play into Rivers strengths (reading defenses, spreading the ball, quick decisions, short touch passes, etc) If you're gonna draft Rivers you gotta use him... the salary cap doesnt allow drafting for depth[Edited on October 11, 2005 at 6:46 PM. 10/11/2005 6:45:40 PM
trade rivers, keep brees.
10/11/2005 6:47:33 PM
they couldnt get much for rivers and they end up eating a lot of his salary under their cap spaceRivers is worth more as a backup QB then he'd bring in a tradeyou either trade Brees or you keep them both
10/11/2005 6:48:33 PM
what if he throws a fit and wants to leave, who eats contract salary?
10/11/2005 6:49:39 PM
they cant trade brees at the end of the year...hes a free agent...they either keep him or let him go getting nothing in return
10/11/2005 6:49:45 PM
i doubt he'd (Rivers) would do that because no way he'd command anywhere near $6 million a year as a free agent. Probably a one year deal worth like 1.1 million or something if he pulled that stunt...And yes they can trade Brees even though he is a free agent. They just tender him another one year contract under the "franchise" tag just like they did last year when he was a free agent.
10/11/2005 6:52:16 PM
What team would you like to see him play for?I'd say the Ravens need him the most right now
10/11/2005 7:57:24 PM
rumor has it that he might go play for the jets, anyone know anything about that? It'd be awesome to see him and J. C. play again
10/25/2005 12:17:26 PM
JC, yes. Jets? No.
10/25/2005 12:33:52 PM
and where is that roomer from?the only place i hvae heard it is wishfull thinking by people on here.
10/25/2005 12:44:56 PM
Miami could be a logical destination for him...
10/25/2005 1:34:30 PM
10/25/2005 2:03:01 PM

10/25/2005 2:50:53 PM

10/25/2005 2:58:41 PM
P. Riv in purple would break my heart....
10/25/2005 4:28:34 PM
you def dont want P-Riv as a viking... that organization stinks
10/25/2005 4:36:29 PM
i'd like him to go to the bills, since im a bills fan, but if i had to guess i'd say phins
10/25/2005 4:40:10 PM

10/25/2005 8:48:29 PM
Green Bay as the Favre protege
10/25/2005 8:50:32 PM
I'm sure they are ready to give up on Aaron Rogers.
10/25/2005 8:53:50 PM
They'll probably end up doing a sign and trade with BreesBrees will end up in Detroit
10/25/2005 8:58:27 PM
Rivers in purple could throw to KRob as long as hes not drunk or in jail.
10/25/2005 9:09:10 PM
Whatever QB goes to the Jets wont be in the league much longer if they dont do something about their O-line. they were HORRIBLE last night.
10/25/2005 9:54:10 PM
i want him to go to the raidersI hate Kerry Collins seriously, id rather see PR there, him and Moss with Jordan in the back...heck yea
10/25/2005 10:03:32 PM
^ if the chargers trade him, i doubt it would be to a division rival . . .
10/26/2005 12:10:21 AM
Why would you trade Culpepper? The last Icon on that godforsaken team? AND why the fuck would you just ask for a #1 draft pick? I mean do they really think they would be better with that fag from USC?
10/26/2005 9:24:14 AM
^ 6 TD, 12 INT... that is why.
10/26/2005 9:38:26 AM
10/26/2005 9:40:48 AM
*yikes* PRiv as a Viking...blah. I'd only hope that so that he could startI'd like to see him in green and orange with a solid running back.I think he's best served if they get rid of Brees and he can take over with the Bolts
10/26/2005 9:59:19 AM
i'd like to see him in teal, but it ain't gonna happen
10/26/2005 10:00:35 AM
YA'LL SHOULD REALLY JUST HOPE TO SEE HIM ON A FUCKING FIELDWITH A HELMET
10/26/2005 10:02:11 AM
HE WALKED OUT THERE LAST WEEK WITH HIS HELMET ON OKbut he was still holding a clip board [Edited on October 26, 2005 at 10:03 AM. Reason : *]

10/26/2005 10:05:22 AM
wasn't there an article where he proclaimed that he WAS going to be a starter next year whether it was for San Diego or elsewhere
10/26/2005 10:31:55 AM
11/7/2005 11:28:09 AM
^^Yes. But that's not really up to him.And at this point, with the Chargers not looking like an AFC championship team this year, I think Phil's chances at taking over are pretty good.I would love to see Phil leading that offense with LT at tailback.
11/7/2005 11:30:37 AM
yeah i really want him to be the starter in SD. with antonio gates, keenan mccardell, and LT, he'd easily come in and win games. eventually i think he would turn into an offensive threat instead of someone that manages the offense like brees is doing.
