I think the only disagreement here is that the media does a poor job of actually covering why these protests begin in the first place (not the match that lights the fire but the kindling — the generational systemic injustices).

I don’t think anyone disagrees that there are absolutely opportunists on all sides that use these events to push an agenda. We know that. The MSM should do a better job at diagnosing and reporting the real problems and not the opportunists.

And, wtf, how is that NYPD clip not just straight up attempted murder?

I'm not saying that justin is blaming leftists. I'm saying that historically, both Democrats and Republicans tend to do this. And if it were 1969, he would be gleeful railing against communists and anarchists.

But the more important thing, today, is that while you argue with Trump about whether the rioters are extreme left or extreme right, you erase the massive multiracial collection of people who are angry and lashing out for good reason.

I’ve been downtown since 7 and am comfortable in saying that cops are downright giddy to fire tear gas

and while I haven’t personally seen rubber bullets, I’ve seen a few people with big welts on their legs

From my point of view, that's grossly oversimplifying it. Here's what it looks like to me:

Protest breaks out, it becomes violent.

Right wing media turns the narrative away from the reason for the protest, focuses on the violence. Spins it as though "those people" are incapable of nonviolent protest.

Liberals then come in and say that's not a fair presentation, it was outside agitators that caused the violence. Don't blame the protestors for that.

And so I don't see it as though liberals are erasing the anger of the oppressed, I see it as liberals trying to maintain sympathies with the protestors (instead of right wing media trying to turn sympathies against the protestors).

I get your point and I do think most people have their hearts in the right place, including people itt. However, what I'm trying to get across is that it is isn't only opportunists who are agitating - they're in the minority. It's a shitload of people, and they are absolutely justified in being angry and destroying property, because nothing else has worked. And my point will be proved tonight when thousands of people disobey curfews. But politicians and cops will continue to call them "provocateurs" and distract everyone from the legitimate anger behind these actions.

There was a good twitter thread but I can't find it, but I think cabbage has it basically right in that the left porb has positive intent to remove the blame so to speak, but it has a side effect of implying that the destruction isn't a justified, or at least understandable, response from an oppressed population pushed too far.

Lets also not forget that this is all exacerbated by Trump, the lack of pandemic response, and pent up anger going all the way back to 2008 and the occupy movement.

We lost count of what the unemployment is and are probably in a depression. Of course people are going to loot. Black people have always had the knee on their throat and the entire country has been severely crumbling for 12 years.

Curfews are just a justification for violence. It’s like telling someone to stop resisting as you beat them.

There’s TONS of videos online now of police brutalizing innocent people. I saw 1 video where protestors beat up a counter protestor.

Lots of windows smashed, including in Raleigh. The one video I saw of a window being smashed in Raleigh was not part of any protests, some kids just walked by a store and smashed a window.

Definitely seems like a perfect storm of angry people and angry police and a president stoking the fire trying to amp both sides up, plus coronavirus malaise, and several recent very clearly racially motivated incidents. Joe Biden is struggling to empathize and get people to chill out but every other force is against him. I’m worried at this point trump is going to keep saying dumb things and the protests will get worse.

i have seen way too many videos of white people dressed in black from head to toe, some of them with proper gas masks and umbrellas (also black), smashing store fronts, getting angry when confronted or just ignoring the black people pleading them to stop, and then just walking away after their smashing spree.

the Right is calling them leftists/antifa/deepstate/people bused in by soros to start a race war so trump loses.

the Left is calling them white supremacists/proud boys/russian provocateurs (if so, how would it help trump?), but so far i have not seen any of them identified and neither side has provided any evidence of their allegations/claims.

and yet others are saying they are cops... so they can blame black people for the riots and destruction in order to repress them further.

WhoTF are they? i haven't seen MSM covering them either, only right-wing/leftist/alternative sites and blogs.

are the authorities doing anything about it? if they are in multiple states, it is an organized effort, so how is the FBI not able to crack this mystery as to who they are and who has sent them?
