i just tried the dropbox app to install a .apk method that lifehacker covered today...somebody was using their head when they thought of that hahabut the app i installed was the droid x multitouch keyboard.i wasn't impressed and went back to stock almost immediately. i haven't felt like i needed to try swype yet - the stock one with a good screen calibration to my thumbs is giving me no problems at all.

yeah the location doesn't matter but if they were mobile numbers, my any time any mobile number would kick in and it would be free regardless
7/22/2010 1:37:13 PM
Oh, now I see what you were getting at.
7/22/2010 1:41:50 PM
i added my google voice number to my "A-List" so all those minutes are free
7/22/2010 1:43:16 PM
I messed with Google Voice hacks for about a month or two with my TP2 and with MagiCall it was the most streamlined I think the process could possibly get. Even then, it wasn't worth it to me. There are tons of times where my GV number (most likely when CDMA roaming) would show up as UNAVAILABLE on Ensemble and therefore charge me minutes. There's a thread on PPCGeeks that Morty started with an overload of info, but for me I could never really adopt.

6 hours since unpluggedBattery Level: 60%Voice calls: 37% 4minutesCell standby: 32% time w/o signal 6%Display: 25% 11 minutesPhone idle: 10%Signal Strength: -71 dBm 0 ASU Data flows over 3G using the same antennas/towers as voice data correct? Signal doesn't seem too poor at work but im waiting to see how the battery performs over the weekend.
7/22/2010 1:48:06 PM
^^^ yeah but the default android gvoice app uses a few local numbers to route your calls rather than just your gvoice number so outgoing calls are no longer free that way[Edited on July 22, 2010 at 1:49 PM. Reason : ^]
7/22/2010 1:49:31 PM
^You're definitely on the right track with the calling card method. Basically you want to find an app for android that replaces Magicall. How many local numbers? You can add 3 from Sprint2Home and another one or two from Sprint2Office if you can find a rep that will add the latter.Mordy*http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=75156Haha, it looks like the developers finally decided to make the move.http://www.mobiion.com/forum/index.php?topic=606.0

^^^I don't have my android phone yet (on order) so I am not used to how they break down the power usage but is that saying you are down to 60% battery life (meaning you have used 40%) and 37% of your usage was attributed to 4 minutes of voice calls? Because the way I read that makes it look like you used ~15% of your battery on a 4 minute phone call I'm guessing I am reading that wrong since the %'s (excluding the 60% of course) don't add up to 100% anyway.[Edited on July 22, 2010 at 3:51 PM. i've identified two so far. one 972 number which is not local and one 678 number which is localbut i've just had my phone for 5-6 days so i haven't even called that many people yet so i don't know...
7/22/2010 3:56:39 PM
I think you're reading it correctly and I think it must just be a crap battery since Cell standby, Display, and Idle use have stayed consistent. I will try the factory reset suggestion posted earlier when I get an opportunity. 8 hours 15 minutes since unpluggedBattery Level: 40%Voice calls: 27% 4minutesCell standby: 34% time w/o signal 4%Display: 29% 16 minutesPhone idle: 11%Signal Strength: -81 dBm 0 ASUEDIT: Browsing around it seems that this is a decently common issue. I'm going to stop by Best Buy after work and get another battery.[Edited on July 22, 2010 at 4:19 PM. Reason : edit]

why do some apps (amazon mp3, cardock, voice commands, music, voicemail, etc) turn themselves on after i repeatedly have advanced task killer turn them off? i'll kill all the apps i don't want running, and a couple minutes later, a bunch of them will be up again.
7/22/2010 6:26:16 PM
they might be built into the UI, if so a lot of times they auto-launch.if that's the case know two things: you'd need root or a custom rom to remove them, and they more than likely aren't effecting your performance in the meantime.
7/22/2010 7:55:24 PM
Just rooted my DroidX, what can I do now?
7/22/2010 10:26:01 PM
overclock that fool and see the battery meter drop as you sit there Seriously, hit the market - there's a wealth of apps that are labeled for rooted units only. Some of them are very cool/useful.
7/22/2010 10:28:49 PM
OC to like 1.2 and see how bad ass your benchmarks are
7/22/2010 10:31:48 PM
don't think you can overclock without a custom kernel
7/22/2010 10:47:17 PM
use various root apps to delete critical system information
7/22/2010 10:56:21 PM
OC won't be available until tomorrow. I removed some shit I don't need/want like blockbuster and skype.

anyone know an app that would let me stream BBC Radio 1?
7/24/2010 4:12:11 AM
^ DAapps has a BBC radio stream app that is free and highly rated. I've never used it, but it seems legit.Anyone else get, or plan on getting the Samsung Galaxy? Without a doubt this is the best Android device out in my opinion. Strongly encourage everyone to go test it out when it comes to your provider!
7/24/2010 5:12:11 AM
all i can find are news apps, none actually stream radio 1.
7/24/2010 3:09:12 PM
i'm assuming you mean a free one because it took me 1 second to find a paid app that does it[Edited on July 24, 2010 at 4:06 PM. Reason : you can try it for free]
7/24/2010 4:05:56 PM
looks like the Devour has been rooted using the instructions from the Droid X. Anyone care? Didn't think so. Doesn't work for the Backflip though. http://forum.androidcentral.com/motorola-devour-roms-hacks/24702-we-can-haz-devour-root-now-instructions-inside-xd.html
7/24/2010 4:42:57 PM
yeah a free one. what paid app plays radio one? i think UK Radio is the only one I've found.^One of the best moto modders is trying to use things gained from that on the backflip still. so far nothing, but i'm still hopeful. One of the things tried was modifying it to exploit it using a SD Card removal but so far no luck]
7/24/2010 4:46:10 PM
^ I searched "bbc" and an app by daapps showed up, it was free, and it was bbc radio. Do you not see that?

7/25/2010 12:08:21 PM
Yeah, coreplayer was the bomb. I think Yxflash will play xvid at 5fps and I don't really know about h.264 -- that might be different.

Lately, the Exchange e-mail client (Email, or com.google.android.email) on my Droid has just been destroying my battery. I had it unplugged for about 7.5 hours yesterday, and it ran my battery down to 5%. That process alone accounted for a staggering 41% of the battery usage. Now, I had it set to sync contacts and calendar information, and it was checking for new mail every hour. Before Friday or so, it never used that much battery. The only thing that has changed was my password. I changed my password at work, but I forgot to update the settings on my Droid. But what the hell, does it just continually hammer the Exchange server when authentication fails or what?[Edited on July 26, 2010 at 9:15 AM. Reason : damn]

I have an Iphone 3g and I am eligible for an upgrade. I am trying to decide between the iphone 4 or the captivate. I have to stay on AT&T and it definitely appears that they don't have the best android phones. Anyone have an opinion?
7/26/2010 9:27:36 AM
^^It's possible that you locked the account if it's a google account and you changed the password at work but not the handheld . Are you getting mail on your device now or is it still failing even with the new credentials? If the latter is true you might need to unlock captcha.https://www.google.com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptchaIf it's actually an exchange server -- then I got nothin'.[Edited on July 26, 2010 at 9:53 AM.
