Sam's has Bruery Tart of Darkness if anyone is in the neighborhood
8/21/2012 8:56:30 AM
^That place kicks ass. I spend entirely too much money every time I go there. That said, I'll probably be stopping by one day this week.

a local brewery to me, southern star, has a "pro-am" series with a homebrew competition each year, and then puts out the winner's brew as a seasonal. This year's winner was a DIPA that's actually really good. at a $8/4 pack. it's pretty damn fine. great amber color, nice piney nose, resinous feel, great malts to back up huge bitterness. at 10% it's wayyyyy too drinkable.a friend found a shitload of 3F oude gueze in new orleans and is bringing me some of that and some pretty things jack d'or back. will be good to contrast the jack d'or to the shittastic homebrewed saison i just got carbed up. could be a swing-and-a-miss.going to tennessee and kentucky this week to see family. wonder if i'll find anything interesting.

oh yeah, forgot to post.Foothills is aiming towards Sept 8th for their BASC release. going to try and get up there and snag some bottles. hopefully my gf will come mule some for me.

I picked up a Sam Adams summer sampler since it's about to go out of season. I forgot how terrible noble pils is
8/21/2012 10:17:08 AM
^^any way I could work out a trade for a bottle?^you're kidding right? Noble pils is great when it's fresh, probably one of Sam Adams better beers and one of the best Czech pilsners... maybe it's the style you don't like? (or maybe it's old beer, or you're being sarcastic?)[Edited on August 21, 2012 at 11:55 AM. Reason : .]

8/22/2012 8:22:45 AM
that is a good looking haul. Did it meet the 100oz + 6 pack minimum?
8/22/2012 8:23:30 AM
well it was a 6 beer, 100oz min, not a 100oz+6 pack, so technically, yes.drank the sculpin last night. i'm happy ballast point is coming to TX later this year. hope we see victory at sea this year.[Edited on August 22, 2012 at 8:25 AM. Reason : consecration batch 4]
8/22/2012 8:25:04 AM
Victory at Sea is delicious.
8/22/2012 8:27:22 AM
i'm sure TJ's brews are looked down on by a fair number of folks, but i freaking LOVE their plznrtheir hofbrau bock, tooBA gives the plznr an average rating and the hofbrau a "good"...but at $1/bottle, it's great[Edited on August 22, 2012 at 8:32 AM. Reason : images]

Jeepin4x4 - if you want any of that Imperial Stout by Founders, I have a couple bottles left. I wasn't a huge fan, but am weird when it comes to Stouts.
8/22/2012 9:56:44 AM
that stuff is probably my favorite non-BA stout.what is wrong with you
8/22/2012 10:10:35 AM
I shy away from ones that have stronger coffee flavors, just a personal preference
8/22/2012 10:29:53 AM
RIS = coffee flavors, I think you need to look at AIS (American Imperial Stouts) instead. If a RIS doesn't have coffee flavors in it, it's not a RIS @pilgrimshoes if you ever want more Firestone Walker, Goose Island, or Russian River let me know.Just traded 2 Parabolas for 2 Westy 12's [Edited on August 22, 2012 at 11:12 AM. 8/22/2012 11:10:53 AM
man i want Goose Island, Firestone Walker, and RR
8/22/2012 1:09:33 PM
always open to a trade. i don't have any Parabola or Sucaba to trade as I'm down to one of each, but Double DBA and any FW regulars like Double Jack & Wookey Jack I still can offer and almost anything RR Supplication, Consecration, Temptation, Salvation, Redemption & Damnation.[Edited on August 22, 2012 at 6:49 PM. Let's talk about pumpkin beers! What's everyone drinking? So far I've had...weyerbacher imperial, new holland ichabod, and southern tier pumpking. All have been tasty.
8/22/2012 7:22:43 PM
I picked up a bottle of the new Cottonwood Pumpkin ale today, will report back with results.
8/22/2012 7:49:04 PM
New Cottonwood? Different than their normal?
8/22/2012 8:02:01 PM
i still have a case of cottonwood from last fall that i've been saving
8/22/2012 8:11:44 PM
It's being brewed by Foothills now instead of Carolina Beer & Beverage. I can only imagine that improving the beer but you never know.
8/22/2012 8:12:51 PM
was that not the case last fall (brewed by Foothills?) I may be wrong. I haven't seen Cottonwood down here yet, but it's always a yearly purchase. I haven't picked up any pumpkin beers but i've started to pick up a few traditional oktoberfest/marzens. Have a six pack of Victory Festbier waiting on me at home.

I was going to post about touring the New South Brewery in Myrtle Beach, SC about a week ago. I've never had anything from New South, but I was stuck in Myrtle Beach and why the fuck not. A couple of really great guys, some really fantastic beer, and a nice little brewery (that they can't self-distribute for cash at... because South Carolina). I was really disappointed to hear that they stopped distribution in North Carolina because they're trying to widen their native South Carolina routes, but I don't blame them. We talked for a long time about the differences between North Carolina and South Carolina in terms of laws, and how North Carolina is really ahead of the game because of less restrictions (and thus drawing a lot more business, especially now with Sierra Nevada and New Belgium coming in). Anyway, if you're in South Carolina I'd definitely hit them up.

A co-worker of mine (and avid homebrewer) has set up a bottle auction fundraiser at Triangle Wine Company this Saturday, to benefit a member of their club who was severely injured in an accident earlier this year and is facing a long road to recovery and astronomical medical bills. Thought some of y'all might want to check it out:

what can anyone tell me about hoppin' frog (specifically the black and/or rye ipas)? hoppy and west coast-ish? it was recommended to me at olbutikken in copenhagen but i think i'm gonna bring a speedway back to vienna instead (plus several port ipas and a few green flash)

i used to live in san diego (and after that in pasadena) before moving to vienna last yeari ended up passing on the speedway (was ~25 euros) and brought back a few mikkeller brews instead (beer hop breakfast and 1000 ibus)olbutikken was ridiculous though, great bottle shop (especially for europe) -- i thought the blÄbaer was a bit overhyped but still a really nice beerand mikkeller was a super chill bar with a nice selection, 20 taps plus an extensive bottle listcopenhagen is a great beer city, some nice beer options at many restaurants and bars around town so you're not stuck drinking carlsberg everywhere, i'm very jealous

spent some time at Foothills this Saturday before and after the wedding. Jade IPA is so damn good. Brought home a growler full. This IPA really needs to replace Hoppyum, hell even Seeing Double, it's that good. But they have no plans for full distribution of it. I suppose that makes since, Pacific Jade hops seem to be the "it girl" in hops right now and we need to see if supply can keep up with demand. But if any of you are able to be in W-S definitely give it a try.The Cottonwood Pumpkin seems to be slighly lighter now that it's under the Foothills umbrella. It's still very good, but it's a lighter amber color with a lighter body than in years past. It used to be a very filling beer after one or two, now it seems a lot more sessionable.and speaking of Cottonwood, with Endo IPA that now puts 5 IPAs and 1 Pale Ale under their belt. (Endo IPA, Seeing Double, Hoppyum, Jade, Little Foot Session IPA, and Pilot Mtn. Pale). It would seem that one or two of those has to go. Jade and Little Foot are tap-room only so they'll be more limited in the brew schedule, but I wonder if Endo has enough following to warrant keeping now that the buyout is complete?oh and the bartender and manager both said they are still shooting for the 8th for BASC. ]
