Seems interesting, but with Obits at Kings and Lower Dens at CC, there's too much other stuff to do.

It depends on how big the band is. A lot of the really big touring acts (Arcade Fire, LCD Soundsystem, Pavement are recent examples) skip the triangle on tours, due in large part to the fact that there aren't very many great, established venues around here that are big enough for artists like that (but we'll see what happens with the downtown amphitheatre). There is Koka Booth and Walnut Creek, but Walnut gets a lot of crappy artists and a few good ones and it is the worst kept secret in town that most artists hate playing Koka. However, with these kinds of artists that skip the triangle, if you want to see them THAT bad, you can drive 3.5 hours west to Asheville or 4 hours north to the DC/Baltimore area to get an opportunity to see that artist more often than not. That's what I did with Pavement, Arcade Fire, AND LCD in the past year. Sufjan Stevens and The Pixies as well, plus Moogfest. Also, the bigger to mid-level indie bands (along the lines of Deerhunter, Built to Spill, Yo La Tengo, Beach House, etc.) are, like VB said, about 90% likely to stop by the triangle. And, since this tier makes up about 60-80% of the bands I want to see on tour, I'm consistently pretty happy with live music around here.[Edited on January 13, 2011 at 3:31 PM. Reason : .]

AND some of those "big" bands (ie: arcade fire, pixies, etc) have been here (more than once and also somewhat recently) before...so i wouldn't discount them coming back. especially w/ the ever growing music scene. and things like hopscotch helping to publicize the area (not that it wasn't already well known in the indie circuit) just sayin.[Edited on January 13, 2011 at 5:23 PM. ^that, and also having one of the most successful indie labels in the country, merge records, in durham certainly makes the triangle more visible to good bands.

Make show tonight at Divebar in 30 minutes... If ya got nothing better to do they're pretty good if you like post metal type music. They'll also be playing at the durham metal fest with a bunch of my favorite bands (in el mundo) Feb 4th and 5th at the casbahI'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message.

The Dismemberment Plan are playing live on Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, January 20th.what!? Best news I've read all day. I normally never watch Fallon but I will definitely tune in for the end of his show on Thursday. For those who never listened to them in their day (though I suspect most people here did for better or for worse), check out this review for Emergency & I:http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/14979-emergency-i-vinyl-reissue/
1/18/2011 8:27:33 AM
Fuck yes! That is an incredible album.
1/18/2011 8:31:41 AM
glad you agree, but I'm not surprised. Especially as a drummer. I just told the bass player in my SC band to pick up this album because I can't imagine a bassist or drummer not enjoying their songs.[Edited on January 18, 2011 at 8:49 AM. Reason : .]

megafaun completely destroyed it last night, incredible showending w/a capella sing-along of "worried mind"=epicfurther confirms what tschudi said, best local band (live AND on record) by fari will say that towards the middle of the show, i was a little frustrated with the chattiness of the crowd. reminded me of being at the pour house when the crowd is louder than the band. i hate that.[Edited on January 23, 2011 at 11:33 AM. 1/23/2011 11:33:09 AM
psyched that they're coming to columbus with mtn goats in april.
1/23/2011 11:50:41 AM
mtn goats dude came out for first encore
1/23/2011 12:00:14 PM
yeah people need to learn when to shut the fuck up for realshow was great though
1/23/2011 12:15:27 PM
yea the chattiness of the crowd pissed me off. i really really really had to pee in the middle of the show and i squeezed through from near the front and when i was in the back trying to squeeze back through, i could barely hear the band because of the chatter.i ALSO don't get where drunk ass bitches come from that squeeze through the crowd toward the front of the stage, yell to each other, and attempt to dance provocatively (note the word "attempt") to songs they clearly don't know. like...how do those people even know to buy tickets for the show?other than the loud crowd complaint i obviously enjoyed the show. they're always great. 1/23/2011 8:14:40 PM
people talking the whole time was fucking annoying.and, seriously, WTF was up with that crowd last night? god damn. i kindly asked some dude to stfu, and he moved or complied, not sure which. he had definitely never seen, nor heard, of Megafaun before last night based on the running commentary.
