^^ So is ncpw actually a meteorologist or just some shit poster with a blog and an adstream acct?Considering hes the balls to call out NWS on his site....

I will repost since mine was at the end of the last page. To start off, here is the original post I made:Nate Johnson posted about the Thanksgiving Snowstorm on the WRAL Weather FB page (https://www.facebook.com/WRALWeather) saying it is a very low probability event from a couple of models and that the people posting about this are getting views and clicks by posting this stuff on social media. Then several DIY weather folks including NC Piedmont Weather were brought up https://www.facebook.com/ncpweather (this guys FB page is covered in Thanksgiving Snowstorm Coverage) and one thread some guy with The Dooleycaster (ugh!) https://www.facebook.com/pages/Dooleycaster/861253037220079?sk=timeline really talked shit about the TV "weekend crews" and specifically Nate Johnson, saying his post was propoganda and shit like that. Needless to say his posts were removed shortly thereafter. Also Brad from WCNC posted this https://www.facebook.com/wxbradWCNC/photos/a.164018193670645.41904.162655917140206/776993229039802/?type=1 telling people to think twice before taking these other reports as gospel. As we have some amateur and professional meteorologists on here, and Nate is also a fellow NCSU alum, what do y'all think? Anybody can post a weather forecasting FB page, just like anybody can post a photography page. Do you think you need a degree to understand this? Do you follow anybody like NCPiedmontWeather, WXRisk, WXSouth, the fucking Dooleycaster or do you just listen to the news stations?[Edited on November 23, 2014 at 10:04 AM. Reason : ]

The problem is those types of "forecasters" are posting a model run that shows the highest accumulations & not considering that other types of models that are showing storm totals that are much lower. They post it to their website/blog/whatever, the general public sees it/freaks out and then it goes viral. I have no idea who is beind that page, but he's been discredited a lot by other local mets (Brad Panovich, recently). A professional met would post their credentials and be more transparent, and this guy really hasn't. Based on the email address provided on the NC Piedmont Weather page, it appears the guy is a TECH SERVICES PROVIDER http://www.techservicestriad.com/aboutus.html As for Nate, he was before my time in the program so I don't know him personally. But he certainly knows his stuff from what I see on Twitter (I don't live in Raleigh, so I don't see WRAL) and he does attend quite a few national & regional meteorology conferences that I've also been to.

tl;dr - snow this thursday?
11/23/2014 10:09:45 AM
^not in raleigh according to weather.com. says rain wednesday

Thursday should be fine (unless you're traveling to somewhere like the Ohio Valley or Maine), the day in question for NC is Wednesday. Odds are it's gonna be a cold rain since it looks like there won't be a strong enough high pressure to the north to bring in enough cold air when the low pressure system blows up off the coast. I suppose some wet snow could possibly mix in, but I doubt it would cause any problems for travel in NC. IF you're traveling further north that day (central/north VA and points to the north) or to higher elevations like Boone, then that's likely a different story.

Your friendly armchair weathercaster at NC Piedmont Weather:http://www.techservicestriad.com/aboutus.htmlHe can tell you if its going to rain outside and he can fix your computer at the same time! BTW, his other FB business page is somewhat less popular:https://www.facebook.com/TSTriad/timelineAnd from his weather forecasting FB page:

I'd prefer that God give me the gift of predicting sports outcomes.
11/23/2014 1:40:37 PM
Please don't rely on NC Piedmont Weather. It is another hype page.
11/23/2014 8:14:29 PM
I already took cover underground based on their post.
11/23/2014 8:42:22 PM
^^So what's your take on this? I get that he's mostly hype, but now accuweather and weather.com and noaa are put up snowflakes on their Wednesday forecast (for Greensboro). Chance of accumulation? Or just a "you might see snowflakes mixed in" kind of thing?
11/23/2014 10:46:03 PM
there may be flakes, there will be no accumulation
11/24/2014 8:25:05 AM
Here is the State Climate Office of NC's official forecast for the upcoming winter season. It pretty much echoes what most meteorologists are expecting (myself included). Great for you snow lovers (myself not included).http://nc-climate.ncsu.edu/climateblog?id=107&h=c64cc35e

The thing you have to keep in mind about all of these sites is they depend on driving traffic to their sites with a profit motive. Honestly I would rely mostly on weather.gov. I would think if anything for GSO it would be a flakes mix in at the end if the cold air catches up in time to residual moisture and that is a big if. In other words I wouldn't expect much.

noaa.gov is where i go. They're usually pretty consistent.

nws.noaa.gov=weather.gov

12/20/2014 9:10:11 AM
Big flakes here in Franklinton
12/20/2014 10:04:59 AM
I think there were more "OMG SNOW" posts on facebook than actual snowflakes in Raleigh.
12/20/2014 10:58:18 AM
I slept through this event.
12/20/2014 12:41:11 PM
there was snow?
12/22/2014 7:19:14 AM
Flurries all over apparently. Didn't step foot outside the house on Saturday, so I cannot provide eyewitness accounts.
12/22/2014 8:38:17 AM
it was coming down pretty heavy for awhile, it was fun to watch while drinking coffee in the morning
12/22/2014 8:46:41 AM
My boss is already talking about possibly closing tomorrowha!
1/13/2015 1:39:20 PM
It's going to SNOW ICE.
1/13/2015 1:48:30 PM
my app says snow. but whichever, as long as I get to sleep in tomorrow it's all gravy
1/13/2015 1:57:23 PM
well bears do hibernate in winter
1/13/2015 2:12:42 PM
It's going to SNOW ICE ISIS.
1/13/2015 2:32:47 PM
I don't care if the roads are dry in the morning, I've already decided to WFH tomorrow.
1/13/2015 2:38:28 PM
yo, i'm gonna be driving up I-95 from SC to Smithfield tomorrow evening., maybe 6 PM or so...should I be worried about the roads?(don't live in NC so I haven't really been following the forecasts)
1/13/2015 2:42:00 PM
Tomorrow evening you should be fine
1/13/2015 2:49:12 PM
that's what i was figuring. thanks!
1/13/2015 3:00:05 PM
already a work from home day, woo
1/13/2015 3:01:43 PM
1/13/2015 8:27:25 PM
Idgaf what it does I'm self employed and work from home
1/13/2015 10:10:52 PM
1/13/2015 11:40:59 PM
man I am jealous!
1/13/2015 11:48:26 PM
are y'all really expecting this to do anything? I can work from home tomorrow but my work was like "use your best judgement" as far as ice goes, which essentially means that if there isn't some semblance of a reason to work from home it's inferred that we're supposed to come in.
1/13/2015 11:55:51 PM
So is this going to be anything even? It's fine outside right now anyway.
1/14/2015 12:11:02 AM
Elevated surfaces are already frozen - at least at my house in Cary- 30°.Looks like most of the precip is already out of the immediate Triange area too.If it stays this way, tomorrow morning should be fine.
1/14/2015 12:16:17 AM
1/14/2015 12:21:05 AM

1/14/2015 12:21:17 AM
