Got my rear shock rebuilt (DR650) with a new seal head and new valving by Cogent Dynamics in Fletcher, who just happen to be located literally less than 10 minutes away from me.Its like riding a whole new machine. Going to upgrade the front suspension next as its too soft now with the new rear setup.

[old]plus the Japanese version of this is way more badass and impressive.

Had the bobber out today whet up into the mountains only to get some snow thrown at my face...Good times!

What those tests demonstrate is that while Japanese motorcycle cops are expected to chase criminals through tight urban environment, American motorcycle cops are mostly expected to ride in parades. Sometimes in wird formations.
10/11/2012 10:01:52 AM
yeah i was watching those japanese cop trials when i found the cruiser vid...yeah the japanese riders are skilled as hell but i was even more impressed that he was handling a clunky ass cruiser that well in such tight spaces
10/11/2012 10:31:40 AM
surprising? yes, impressive? yup.Still doesn't matter when 99% motorbike cops in the US tend to just sit on the side of highways and catch speeders in a straight line. Not like the average speeder who actually runs from cops will know how to handle a car going through some tight turns anyhow.
10/12/2012 4:13:15 AM
honestly, the way the suspension is strapped down on these trial things, I'm not all that impressed. these guys are riding with only the top half of their bodies and that's the easy part. they rev to tighten the chain and squat the bike even lower, bar input, lean. i suppose they could be doing it with all core and thighs but the arm pump would seem to indicate otherwise.[Edited on October 12, 2012 at 4:28 AM. Reason : having said that, im sure it's not /easy/ but not nearly as hard as it looks]
10/12/2012 4:25:41 AM
based on the price, i assume victory motorcycles are "nice"? i saw the ugliest bike i've ever seen on 40 yesterday...it was a victory and based on their 2013 lineup, i'm assuming it's a bagger or touring bikeit's blockier and uglier than the 2013s on their site, so i assume it's an earlier model...the vision, maybe? yuck
10/12/2012 8:26:03 AM
I want a Victory Hammer.. awesome bike, made in America.
10/12/2012 10:19:23 AM

I'm always looking for an excuse to go riding. With that said, I talked to some of the RPD motorcycle guys and they told me about this class/event that RPD hosts. I decided to sign up for this FREE skills day and see what I can/need to improve on.http://www.bikesafenc.com/class_detail.lasso?ids=1B302611922&-session=bikesafe:463E61621900c3484AXiq39A4AC3Maybe I'll see some of you guys out there...
10/24/2012 10:13:53 PM
^ street legal only I was hoping it was on the driving course off garner rd
10/24/2012 10:42:12 PM
^^That looks like it could make for a fun day - especially being free! I'm gonna think it over, but I may sign up for that. Are you doing the Nov. 30th one? I'll be done with classes on the 29th so it couldn't hurt to wrap up the semester with a day of riding.
10/24/2012 11:19:32 PM
^Yup. I'm signed up for the Nov 30th.^^ Yeah, I wish! I used to live out that way a long time ago. It was cool waching the HP do their training... All that tarmac... They should "lease" it out to PCA-Hurricane Region for some HPDE events when they don't use it You know, help generate dat revenue [Edited on October 25, 2012 at 12:58 AM. Reason : .]

aaaand registered for 12/14. sweet, thanks man
10/25/2012 6:39:26 PM
first mod to the dr650 motard done. my plan is to paint the rear fender stop sign red and do a germany black, red and yellow theme.
11/4/2012 8:12:07 PM
Second mod should be to remove that big ass luggage rack, since I doubt that this thing will be seeing any kind of heavy duty off road adventure
11/5/2012 2:49:25 AM
Is that an IMS tank? Considering getting a larger tank for my DR650 also for longer trips.Oh, put some dirt tires back on it and come to Asheville, we can do a DR650 only Hurricane Creek Rd. ride. Everything else you ever ride off road will seem like a Sunday ride down 40.PM me if you still live in the raleigh area and want to know some good single track to ride in the Knightdale/Wendell/SE Raleigh area. Also, is that the brake light/license plate kit from Procycle? If so I have the same one and seem to be having an issue with the brake element of the bulb going out alot. The main light is fine, but the brake light element seems to burn out very quickly, and I replace it with the same bulb as stock, but I didnt have the problem with the stock light/wiring. [Edited on November 5, 2012 at 7:43 PM. Reason : :]
11/5/2012 7:39:18 PM
^^i plan on some on-road adventures.^ i believe it is the IMS tank. Not sure about the brake lights as it was that way when i got it last month. i do have a set of knobbies for the bike but it would be easier to ride my 250 two stroke off road
11/6/2012 2:41:07 AM
It is the IMS tank, and the luggage rack comes right off with 4 allen head screws. the license plate mount is procycle, but the taillight is just a suzuki DRZ250 model.

suggestions on some thin gloves that do an excellent job of blocking wind? i have some thicker ones i got on sale from cycle gear for $5 and they do a great job already...but as noted, they're thick and that makes movement more difficult...also, they have a rubberized palm and fingers and it catches on the rubber of grips (though i guess that's the point, i just find it annoying)also, suggestions for some cheap wind-blocking pants? i'm not really looking for protective gear, just something to minimize how much goes through my jeans...most "windbreakers" are, in my experience, useless while riding and are more for folks at the gym or something
11/16/2012 8:59:16 AM
Idk about the gloves, but for the pants, Cycle gear has the Bilt Tornado overpants that are pretty light-duty like the athletic gear wind pants, but have the straps to go under your boots so they don't ride up over the top when seated. I have a pair that's a little too small for me, so I never wear them and can't really say how well they work.
11/16/2012 11:45:03 AM
I believe I have the Bilt Tornado pants. They are OK at best at highway speeds when it comes to blocking wind. I say this because even with jeans on, you will feel the wind chill at 45*. Does it help? Yes, quite a bit. I think it'll cut down the wind factor by at least half, if not a little more. I've used mine ALOT in the rain and they are sturdy for the price as they have keep me dry and have yet to fail. I wear some thermals, jeans, and the tornado pants and I'm fine in 45* weather. A little chilly at first, but after about 5-10 minutes of riding I'm fine. If you want something that does a better job, look for something with thicker material or just layer. Sometimes I wear a fleece comfy pants under the jeans and just those two do fine for me, though it can get a bit warm indoors. As for gloves, I don't know what to suggest. Best I can offer is get gloves that are slightly bigger than your hand. Yes you lose dexterity, however, blood will be able to flow freely to your fingertips. This is important if you want to maintain warm hands. A lot of people buy "fitted" gloves and wonder why their hands are still cold. Gloves can't do their job retaining heat in your hands if the blood flow is restricted. $0.02[Edited on November 16, 2012 at 3:22 PM. Reason : .]

good gloves aren't cheap. don't expect to get a good pair under $50. I have "middle" grade gloves and got them on sale for $150
11/17/2012 12:13:58 AM
Good times in CO
11/17/2012 12:44:19 AM
^when are you cutting those fender racks off??^^The most comfortable gloves I've had are wrist-length Motoboss ones i got from Cycle Gear for something like $35, multy-layer leather on the palm with soft padding on top. I also have some gauntlet-style, kevlar and plastic reinforced gloves for weekend rides that were over $100, but they are really an overkill for most situations.
11/17/2012 1:33:44 AM
the way i look at it is, your hands are generally the first things to hit the ground as you try to brace yourself for a fall. as much as i use my hands, i have no interest of putting them at risk and always wear gauntlets
11/17/2012 8:53:08 AM
Took a 13 gallon trash can and made myself a windscreen. Went on a test ride and wow, it's so much better to ride a motorcycle without air on your chest. [Edited on November 17, 2012 at 6:17 PM. Reason : a]
