http://northcarolinastate.scout.com/2/833167.htmlNotebook: Lowe Talks 'Coach Yow'CHESTNUT HILL, MA -– Sidney Lowe says he never called Kay Yow, “Kay.”“She was always, even when I came back, she was always Coach Yow,” the NC State men’s coach said here yesterday, on the day Coach Yow lost her battle with cancer.“She was never Kay to me. She was always Coach Yow because that’s what she was when I was playing.”Lowe recalled getting to know Yow when he was playing for the Pack and noted they developed a friendship back then that endured over the decades.“She was the first one to come over and actually close my door and sat me down and talked about the dynamics of the job,” He said of his first day back as the new coach. “She told me that it was the toughest job in the country, with the other two schools right down the road and Wake Forest right down the road and the expectations."She told me ‘it’s the toughest job in the country but you can do it,’ and she said, ‘just run your club the way you know how to run it; there’s going to be folks that are going to have opinions and thoughts and coaching your team but you’ve gotta coach your team.’”Asked if Yow was right, Lowe smiled and said, “Was she right? She couldn’t have been more right in her life.”He added: “She and I were close when I was a player. She would always stop and talk to me because she told me I was like a coach on the floor and she loved that I never turned the ball over. She always talked about that.”Asked about her passing, Lowe said, “I can’t really put that into words. You’re talking about somebody that’s been there a long time, that’s accomplished a lot, that really became the face of NC State when you talk about sports, for a long time, people talk about Coach Yow; and not just the basketball community, but just the community in general, for what she did in the community, obviously, with the cancer research and things. I mean, she’s going to be missed tremendously.”I think we all need to put less pressure on Lowe and just let him get his players in here. Yesterday we only had 10 turnovers, and he made adjustments at halftime to get us to go on a 16-0 run to get back in the game, despite our players playing terrible defense and McCauley being a black hole once he got the ball in the post during the first half.

its been past time we should go to their games.I have not attended yet, but maybe we should get a sports talk caravan to go to a game.then we can sit all in a group and shit talk CJ Leslie and recruits before they even attend the school. You know, it never hurts to be prepared.

John Wall led a WOG squad that was w/o Leslie to a 97-91 victory over Flora McDonald on Friday night. Let's just say he dropped 42. Yes my friends, that is his second straight game of 40+. Bishop Daniels had 18 points in the victory. Lorenzo Brown also saved his squad's #1 ranking by leading Centennial to a 69-67 victory over Roswell on Friday night. He had 29 points.WolfpackHoopshttp://www.wolfpackhoops.com

I have a question for "you people" ....Do any of you actually think that Lorenzo Brown is not a point guard? And if not, I'm not judging you (yet), but I would like to know why. The reason I ask is because I keep reading this crap about people saying that we are fucked next year if we don't land john wall b/c we still won't have a point guard, but I'm pretty sure that Zo has played PG for the last 2...maybe 3 seasons for his high school team and also for his AAU team. Discuss.

^Lo will work if we don't get wall. Having Wall and Lo would be just sweet as hell though
1/25/2009 10:49:59 PM
scout.com lists him as a 2 so people run around saying he's "not a true point guard".don't worry about it.[Edited on January 25, 2009 at 10:52 PM. Reason : nevermind that rivals lists him as the #7 pg in the class.]
1/25/2009 10:52:31 PM
^thats my point. I'm in the group that thinks he will be fine at PG, but I'm just wondering where these people are getting their info if they think he will be just another guy playing out of position at NC State. He's been a point guard his entire career, he's just 6'5, so he maybe a better 2 in the long run. I've seen nothing to suggest that he won't be good at PG. Trust me, i'm not worried about that....I'm wondering why other people are. IMO they're just looking for something to bitch about and they haven't been following recruiting other than looking at their scout profiles only.

Dave Telep has seen him play more than anyone on this board and says that we dont need Wall with LoBrown coming in and says that he will more than fill the void we need at PG. Telep knows his shit but i would still salivate over the nastiest back court in the ACC with Brown and Wallthis has prbly been posted but Lorenzo Brown saved his squad's #1 ranking by leading Centennial to a 69-67 victory over Roswell on Friday night. He had 29 points. :woot: this kid is impressive.Looks like Cousins is shooting for a March 1st visit if that hasnt been posted. I am glad Wood broke that 1000 point mark ... i knew he would get there before the end of the season with the way he is tearing it up and my god...that game with Harrow and Howell was pretty awesome.we have some studs coming in thats for sureHere is Word of God's remaining schedule if anyone caresMon, Jan 26 06:30 PM at Waccamaw Academy (whiteville NC)Fri, Jan 30 07:00 PM Victory ChristianWed, Feb 4 07:00 PM RavenscroftSat, Feb 7 06:00 PM Lawrence AcademyMon, Feb 9 07:00 PM at Flora McDonaldWed, Feb 11 07:30 PM GreenfieldFri, Feb 13 07:30 PM at Trinity Christian Academy

From the video I've seen, he has more offense in his left nut than anyone on our team right now. He's got an incredibly low dribble in traffic, and they say that if he wants to get to the hole, he's getting to the hole. I agree that in the long run he may be better suited at the 2, I'm just wondering why people are freaking out that we "still" don't have a point guard in this class yet when he's better on the ball at this stage than Chris Wright was. The fact that he may be better at the 2 has nothing to do with the fact that he is actually a point guard right now, and will help our backcourt tremendously on BOTH ends of the floor. (for those of you who don't know, word on the streets is that he brings it harder than most on D, let alone harder than most standout high school stars)^exactly[Edited on January 26, 2009 at 10:16 AM. ^^yeah, dave telep voted Lo Brown into the Mickey D's game. Now brown needs more than one vote, but hopefully telep isn't the only one. I would like for him to get into the game

^Agreed. I really hope we get Wall. Really. But if not, Brown looks like a very promising PG (even if that's not his natural position, and Mays has shown a lot of potential. I think he's going to be solid for us as the years go on. And Harrow looks to like he could be that true scoring PG everyone's wanting. The future of the Pack's 1 position definitely looks better in the upcoming years.
1/26/2009 11:10:14 AM
now if we could old shore up the forwards and centers
1/26/2009 12:02:05 PM
^I think Tracy Smith*, Richard Howell, and CJ Leslie (who was just upgraded to the #19 in the '10 class) is a pretty good start.Yes, we could definitely use a true center.[Edited on January 26, 2009 at 12:23 PM. Reason : *and hopefully Costner]
1/26/2009 12:21:15 PM
^ Indeed. State doesn't have any "big men" committed in the upcoming classes. By big men I mean somebody with the height/weight/talent to give State an effective a scoring, rebounding, and shot-blocking presence. Nowadays most coaches use a big power forward for this role, mainly b/c a true center in college bball is almost an extinct species.Tracy Smith is an effective post player, but he's not an over-powering. Howell doesn't quite have the weight or the height to dominate the paint either. And CJ Leslie is more of an athletic small forward than a power forward. As a result I'm sure Lowe will make the best pitch possible for Cousins and anyone else that's close to having his size and talent. If Lowe lands a big guy either in the '09 or '10 class, then State could get very good very quickly IF the PG prospects pan out. And right now I'm confident that will be the case Still, with a good scheme you can limit the damage caused by teams with proto-typical "big men." Limiting the damage caused by not having a good PG... well that's another story
1/26/2009 12:35:23 PM
Maybe we could land JJ Hickson.
1/26/2009 12:39:56 PM
nah he's a lock for Tennessee

2 brand new Scott Wood videos you guys will like. I know Richard Howell and Zo Brown are big time recruits, but Wood is going to have as big an impact as any of them. His ability to shoot off the dribble, off balance, with such a quick release and from such a distance is going to make him VERY hard to stop for any forward in the league. He's a legit scorer and may very well take home Mr. Basketball for the state of Indiana. http://www.wolfpackhoops.com
1/27/2009 12:12:50 AM
Who's his competition for Mr. Basketball Indiana, what are they rated, and where are they going to college?

1/27/2009 8:02:43 AM
he does have range... just have to train and condition him well to get these kind of shots/looks at the basket at the college level
1/27/2009 8:08:08 AM
why did he fall down after every shot in the first video
1/27/2009 8:38:54 AM
He's money from that 26-foot, two o'clock sort of area.I like how his highlight reel was all sorts of random shots instead of thirty three-pointers.
1/27/2009 8:55:15 AM
1/27/2009 9:18:01 AM
He seemed to shoot his jump shots pretty off-balanced. Whatever works, though.

DeMarcus Cousins and LeFlore went 3-0 last week. Cousins had 24 points 11 rebounds against St. Paul's Episcopal, 28 points and 14 boards against Duncanville, and 26 points and 15 boards against Union. John Wall and crew also beat Waccamaw by the score of 75-46. John Wall had 18 points and Bishop Daniels had 12 points. C.J. Leslie didn't play for the second straight game. Word of God is now 14-7. LaQuinton Ross also had 24 points this past Friday in a loss against NW Rankin. WolfpackHoopshttp://www.wolfpackhoops.com
1/27/2009 11:42:56 AM
Anyone else think it's a little odd that a team with John Wall and CJ Leslie has 7 losses???
1/27/2009 12:54:46 PM
^not a talent issue. a combination of a tough schedule and no teamwork
1/27/2009 1:03:12 PM
And Wall and Leslie haven't played all the games.Aside, they also have Bishop Daniels.
1/27/2009 1:07:10 PM
Next year Mays and Wood will be in the backcourt. They played together in Indiana and went to the state championship last year. The following year we'll also have god-brothers Brown and Harrow playing together in the backcourt. They've been playing together since they were kids. That's pretty cool.[Edited on January 27, 2009 at 8:09 PM. Reason : Vyou wouldn't. i was just saying they'll be playing together.]
1/27/2009 8:03:41 PM
why would you start wood over brown next year?nevermind. I guess you didn't say anything about starting.. just playing together[Edited on January 27, 2009 at 8:09 PM. Reason : reading]

Wall and Leslie in the house tonight?
1/27/2009 10:13:18 PM
Wall and Leslie where both there tonight. they looked pretty excited at the end and Wall even ran into the back with the team like he was already on it.
1/27/2009 10:15:45 PM
^Wood was here as well.

LaQuinton Ross had 33 last night in an OT win over Jim Hill.Talked to Harrow last night and he was in the hospital b/c he caught a bow to the temple and his eye was swoll up. He assured me he would be ok. This quite possibly lead to his low numbers and the teams loss. WolfpackHoopsWe did see Wall at the game, he was sitting by Wood most of the game, he did chase Fells down at the end of the game, and we did see him give Larry Harris some dap as well.http://www.wolfpackhoops.com
