A cold boot is always longer than a reboot or wake from sleep. Instead start counting from the time the Windows boot screen appears. Keep in mind, these times should be un-modded, to show the power of the SSD.[Edited on September 15, 2011 at 10:31 AM. Reason : -]

If you have an SSD, and you aren't under 20 seconds, you are doing it wrong.May need to secure erase the SSD or get new firmware.

I'm running an ssd... on windows 3.1... am I doing it wrong?
9/15/2011 10:37:33 AM
My cold boot is definitely under 20 seconds. I'm simply saying I rarely reboot my computer.
9/15/2011 10:38:41 AM
so down and dirty overclocking...i'm a noob when it comes to it....but can I just pump up vcore and then bump the multiplier. I don't really wanna understand the 123023920 settings i just want the most GBs GHz
9/15/2011 10:43:51 AM
in concept that's kind of the idea. but you won't be able to simply do that if you don't understand the rest of the settings as there is 3-4 different settings that will prevent you from overclocking unless you disable them. best suggestion is find a guide on how to overclock your motherboard BIOS, and go from there.back in the day it used to be a lot more complicated where you had to ratio your cpu, memory, AND FSB frequency to mesh with the single multiplier and it required a delicate balancing act and testing about 30-40 different scenarios and ratios to find the most stable. nowadays motherboards have apps that do it on the fly, you just tell it what multiplier.i would also research the max voltage and max temperature your CPU can handle and monitor it closely when OC'ing. do not exceed, unless you have something better than air cooling[Edited on September 15, 2011 at 11:02 AM. It's neat mainly for Blurays though. Gaming is more of a gimmick. I'd take the 120hz over 3D any day. Any monitor that is 120hz is going to advertise itself as a 3D monitor. It just comes down to whether it has the built in IR emitter or comes with glasses. It's a vesa mount so you can always mount it yourself. All depends on your price range.
9/15/2011 1:52:06 PM
Why can't you see 3D?
9/15/2011 2:33:43 PM
Are you a pirate with an eye patch? ARRGGGGGG!
9/15/2011 2:35:42 PM
I have Amblyopia in one eye, making my vision based 70-80% on one eye over the other (aka, lazy eye) it doesn't help when the brain needs both eyes to simultaneously see two different images and put them together. I actually did have an eye patch when I was 2-3 years old to help strengthen the weaker eye. Other than that I have 20/16 vision.[Edited on September 15, 2011 at 3:30 PM. Reason : ,]
9/15/2011 3:27:54 PM
Ah ok. Then yes don't get one with 3D glasses. Or you could just sell them after you get them. The 120hz is worth it though.
9/15/2011 3:34:30 PM
Actually you don't need two eyes to see depth, its a misunderstood concept. In a monocular cue, you gain this information by two ways: motion parallax and pictorial depth cues. Motion parallax is the distance sensation of a moving target or the environment moving in relation to you. Pictorial depth cues are clues about distance from a flat image, which include linear perspective, texture gradient, interposition, relative size, height in plane and light and shadow.Binocular cues is what we would refer to stereo 3d vision which would require the use of two eyes and related to the retinal disparity. This states that objects within 25 feet project images to slightly different locations on the right and left retinas to see spacial orientation, which is processed by the visual cortex of the occipital lobe. And yes, I just had a test on this shit. 16 hours straight of study... My serotonin levels is through the roof right now.[Edited on September 15, 2011 at 3:40 PM. Reason : ]
9/15/2011 3:39:33 PM
^I didn't say I couldn't judge depth in real life... I said I can't see 3D (referring to digital / meaning with glasses). 3D glasses depend on two images seen separately with two eyes.[Edited on September 15, 2011 at 3:44 PM. Reason : .]

I know, my mind is overflowing with crap right now.
9/15/2011 3:44:38 PM
So per the technical terms, I guess I can't see "stereo 3d vision" which as I understand it is how most of the digital 3d works right now (and maybe always will be if you consider that you're trying to project depth on a 2d surface)[Edited on September 15, 2011 at 3:49 PM. Reason : .]
9/15/2011 3:48:24 PM
Well depth perception in a stereo vision is less noticeable on objects that are 25' or more away. Its the optical parallax that tells your visual cortex to what your eye's are sensing then it sends the information to your parietal lobe to help you understand your spatial orientation relative to the object and the environment.[Edited on September 15, 2011 at 4:05 PM. One might say the internal use adjacencies and circulation recognizes the critical necessity to subtract from the anticipated degree of human ambiance. On the other hand, the by-product of repetitive space articulation maximizes the real probability of cost overruns for the pragmatics fo value engineering. Indubitably, the structural dynamic analysis is further compounded by taking into account the study of true fecundity in the state-of-the-art.Exactly.

So I got the H80 in my 400R case, with 11 total fans (2 for the H80) and I'm now overclocked with my i7 2600k @ 5 Ghz
9/17/2011 1:18:12 PM
coolnow what are you going to do with it that comes anywhere close to using it?
9/17/2011 1:44:02 PM
I imagine it'll help out in gaming running at 120fps. I know you can't run Metro 2033 or Crysis maxed out with only a single 580.
9/17/2011 2:57:57 PM
It's future-proofing mainly, I don't expect to see huge differences. It will help with high end FPS gaming. Using my ROG bios logging, I'm monitoring the system under heavy load as 9C colder, which is really impressive for a relatively cheap liquid cooling solution. Granted, the 400R had a lot to do with the cooling as well, but 9C is huge.[Edited on September 17, 2011 at 3:49 PM. Reason : -]

That's compared to the stock intel heat sink?
9/17/2011 5:12:50 PM
yes, in my old shitty 35 dollar mid-tower case with poor ventilation. The H80 has a lot to do with it, but so does the 400R case, it's very spacious and has honeycomb ventilation, and allows for 11x 120mm fans (2 for H80). Basically, I'm saying the two combined probably = the 9C cooling, not just the H80. Anyway, I'm very happy. (i7 2600k 3.4 GHz) to (5.0 Ghz OC) Corsair H80 Liquid-Cooled(4x4GB Corsair 1600 Ram) to (1648 OC)(GTX 580 TFIII-LE 832/1664/2100) to (912/1824/2380 OC) Without Touching VoltageHere I come BF3/Skyrim/Anything.[Edited on September 17, 2011 at 8:09 PM. 9? That's all? Compared to stock you should be getting a much larger delta than that. My NH-D14 lowered temps drastically compared to the stock heatsink. 20+c difference. I couldn't even run the stock heat sink at 4.0ghz or higher. Older chip though. I guess Sandybridge just doesn't get that hot.
9/17/2011 11:09:51 PM
The 3200 C2D never gets all that hot even with the stock HSFU. I need to get that drive, or two. Nab a copy of windows 7. For the upgrade do you need to have a XP install first or just a valid XP key? I have misgivings about 'updating' a existing windows install compared with a clean 1 step. A new video card (one that can run bf3 adequately at stock 1600x900). Maybe finally axe my 11 year old and 6 year old optical drives.
9/18/2011 12:56:48 AM

9/18/2011 1:41:21 AM
I'm happy with the temperatures I'm getting. Keep in mind, this is with an OC @ 5.0 Ghz. So, if I left it at 4.6 Ghz, it would be colder. I'm sure it would be much colder at stock, but what's the point of that?[Edited on September 18, 2011 at 11:48 AM. Reason : -]

question for the OC gurus in this thread:This is my first foray into overclocking and i'm confused....i'm succesfully running my 2600k at 4.5ghz @ 1.3v....seems safe according to what I have read. What I don't understand is the relationship betwen VID and Vcore voltages....I understand VID is programmed at the factory and is the default Vcore required to run the stock speeds of the processor. For my board, I have turned off Limit CPUID Maximum, Power Tech, C1E Support, Overspeed Protection, Spread Spectrum and have ENABLED Internal PLL Overvoltage, Execute Disable Bit,and Intel Virtualization Tech. With these modifications and the multiplier set at the stock 34 and Vcore set to auto, I am seeing a VID of 1.256vWhen I increase the Vcore and Multiplier....my VID changes to 1.3711v......why is this value changing?

Just down-sized my HTPC. Went from a giant Antec Nine Hundred tower to a 1U Coolermaster Elite 100Btw, Fry's is fucking amazing. Their in-store prices are usually lower than anything but super sales online. The Antec Nine Hundred I got for $59, and the Elite 100 I got for $49. For the motherboard, went with the Zotac 880ITX-A-E. Let me swap in my existing Phenom II X4 945 Black cpu, 8gb of DDR3, Samsung 1tb 7200rpm 32mb drive.Bought the Corsair ForceGT 120gb as the boot drive. The board itself has a radeon 4200 GPU with HDMI and DVI output, USB3.0, SATA3 and mini-pcie 802.11N wifi. This thing is tiny. I mean TINY. (12.50" x 10.30" x 2.70"). I thought surely the OEM HSF unit would fit, but not even close. Having to order a 1U server HSF to be able to put the top case cover back on.Also got a USB3.0 external 2tb drive to sit alongside it.Total cost out of pocket was a little under 500. The nice thing is, I just need to buy another CPU, and I still have a completely functional tower too. I think it's worth it for the space (and noise) savings.Oh, and DEAR LORD is this SSD fast. I have one in my laptop, but its SATA2. This thing is just stupid fast.Any recommendations for an ultra low profile and quiet HSF unit?[Edited on September 19, 2011 at 7:15 AM. Reason : .]

Windows Cold Boot with SSD's in Raid 0 = ?
9/19/2011 9:55:29 AM
Again depends on if you have a real dedicated Raid card or if you're just using a software/mobo raid.
9/19/2011 10:19:12 AM
And I just hit the dreaded Sandforce 2281 controller problems Drive crashes within minutes of Windows installation. And you can only update the firmware via another system. Fuck it's annoying. Can't decide whether to try and update the firmware or to RMA it now.
9/19/2011 11:41:53 AM
Don't RMA yet. Did you OC? If so, revert to stock. Does it still crash? If so, take the SSDs out of current system, plug them into a different system, secure erase, update firmware to stable version (research it), take out of different system, plug them back into current system, fresh install of windows. Does it still crash? If so, RMA.This has been a linear presentation, thank you.[Edited on September 19, 2011 at 11:54 AM. Reason : -]
