Dummies (on social media) saying there's no way we'd want a former Tarheel. He left them after 2 seasons and had a break-out season at Georgetown last year. Sign him up!
4/16/2024 9:58:05 AM
I'm pretty sure we wanted him last year.
4/16/2024 12:11:54 PM
We did. So we’re 0/2 recruiting him so far? Maybe 3rs times the charm…assuming we still want him?
4/16/2024 1:22:30 PM
Lol apparently Indiana is paying Oumar Ballo $1.2 million to play next year! Wild for a guy who is arguably not a star. I mean he averaged <13 points.
4/16/2024 5:36:40 PM
I’m not doubting it. But I’m always very skeptical of the numbers that get thrown around. Nobody really has any incentive to tell the truth. Players and agents and family members will inflate numbers to drive them up. Coaches can inflate the numbers to drive more donations and/or to further the narratives about NIL being problematic or players making unreasonable demands.
4/16/2024 6:40:25 PM
It's all basically a legal Ponzi scheme, NIL.
4/17/2024 9:54:31 AM
I don’t think it’s a Ponzi scheme at all. It’s just not an ideal model for athlete compensation.Fans pay money (especially big donors) to lure and maintain players to their school. That isn’t really a Ponzi scheme. It’s just a bullshit way for fans to foot the bill rather than athletic departments and conferences sharing revenues.
4/17/2024 12:20:58 PM
I don't think you understand what a ponzi scheme is, Elwood
4/17/2024 12:51:42 PM
that was more of a Joke, and there was Miami Booster that was probably a Ponzi.https://nypost.com/2023/07/30/top-miami-nil-booster-john-ruizs-lifewallet-company-the-target-of-federal-investigation/would a more transparent open market be better. right now it word of moth what a person will get or what a school pays. I guess there is eventually a paper trail that has to officially be reported. Arkansas is about to buy all the titles.
4/18/2024 5:18:44 PM
Styles commits.
4/18/2024 8:13:16 PM
^^schools don't pay anything, as it is against NCAA rules to pay players contingent on athletic performance.
4/18/2024 8:49:27 PM
Can't we pay them to live in squalor on campus, under condition they get us to final 4, don't pursue litigation, etc?
4/18/2024 10:07:49 PM
I think Virginia just passed a law that does allow the schools to pay players for things like billboard appearances and promotional stuff like that. But I’m sure that will be challenged since it is against NCAA rules (which seem to get weaker and less enforceable by the month)
4/19/2024 6:43:28 AM
4/19/2024 9:09:35 AM
^^i think that's would actually be fine? Same as paying them for jersey sales when they use their name/number which already happens. So yeah i was wrong schools do pay players, but not in the way suggested
4/19/2024 9:20:42 AM
^ yeah I think it’s a good thing. I think it’s just brand new and uncharted territory. I assume other states would put together similar legislation and dare the ncaa to take it to court (where the ncaa tends to lose)
4/19/2024 11:00:55 AM
I'm not saying don't pay anyone, I'm just saying that NIL is impossibly hard to track. I've given money to Savage Wolves. I'm happy as hell for the Basketball players crushed it and got tons of NIL money in the final four run. they deserve it. hope we land some more big time players, come on Jeremy Roach, flow Styles. NC State can create a triangle dream team
4/19/2024 12:22:11 PM
For whom does it need to be tracked? Do you mean so that we all can know how much a certain player makes?
4/19/2024 12:48:45 PM
I'm sure the Feds are monitoring, they gotta get that tax money. I'd love to see money spent by team and how that translates to wins.FedEx just pledged 25 mil to Memphis's NIL[Edited on April 19, 2024 at 2:04 PM. Reason : f]
4/19/2024 2:01:21 PM
You can bet your ass that all these NIL collectives will be audited and the IRS will know where every single cent goes. Also, we're apparently getting another Louisville player LOL
4/19/2024 5:05:01 PM
Who?MIKE JAMES
4/19/2024 5:33:38 PM
Former Bowling Green guard Marcus Hill committed. Averaged something like 20ppg. Doesn't seem to be a 3 point shooter, but definitely a guy who can get to the rim (and to the free throw line)Also some interesting F/C additions to the portal in recent days, including UNCW leading scorer/rebounder Trazarien White and Miami's Norchad Omier. One open scholarship currently. Would expect a big(ger) guy since only middlebrooks and huntley-hatfield are taller than like 6'6.]
4/25/2024 6:26:57 PM
Welp looks like Omier entered the portal with a DNC. Somebody be tampering
4/25/2024 7:19:10 PM
^^ I’m excited about a guard that can get to the rim and the line. Joiner and Horne were great but they are small and struggled with that. T was explosive enough to get to the rim but not strong enough to finish through contact. I think this gives us an element we’ve lacked recently. Added height should be a priority now. I think Styles and Parker can play the 4. But obviously it would be nice to have more than 2 tall dudes on the team
4/25/2024 8:10:14 PM
Seems like a big jump, don't think they played a single top 100 game. Seems like a depth piece anyway unless we have unannounced transfers.
4/25/2024 8:15:11 PM
Definitely a big jump in competition. Probably not fair to compare him to Kam Woods, but Woods also made a big jump and obviously never found a role on the team. Hopefully Hill’s game translates.
4/25/2024 8:18:59 PM
Kam Woods won an ACC championship and made a final four!!
4/25/2024 9:46:38 PM
Looks like ECU F Ezra Ausar is likely to commit. Seems like a depth piece. No word if it's a package deal with Cam Hayes
5/1/2024 1:35:44 PM
This guy has us in his top-6 https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/4711296/brandon-gardnerHe redshirted last year hence not really having any stats. But apparently Keatts recruited him out of high school
5/1/2024 2:49:30 PM
5/1/2024 7:19:09 PM
He's 6'8"
5/1/2024 8:18:48 PM
That's an inch taller than 6'7"And an inch shorter than 6'9"
5/2/2024 12:01:39 PM
5/2/2024 12:39:29 PM
5/20/2024 1:19:11 PM
This happend over 19 hours ago and nobody has posted?
6/17/2024 10:59:03 AM
Always good to get more shooters! Sounds like he is a rising player as he develops more.
6/17/2024 9:50:48 PM
Got a French-Canadian bigman for the 2024 season, 2 years of eligibilityhttps://packinsider.com/2024/06/24/nc-state-lands-a-commitment-from-canadian-forward-ismael-diouf/Videos: https://packinsider.com/2024/06/24/nc-state-commit-ismael-diouf-video-vault/[Edited on June 24, 2024 at 12:59 PM. 6/24/2024 12:33:37 PM
I don't know if jcs/transfers get star ratings
6/24/2024 12:39:51 PM
12 Star recruit
6/24/2024 3:05:13 PM
I want to get excited about the new players, but with 7 new players and having barely seen mj rice, I have no clue how this team will come together. We don't have enough scholarships, so either someone is just straight up getting paid with no scholarship or someone will be leaving
6/24/2024 9:35:13 PM
Someone is straight up getting paid
6/24/2024 10:56:50 PM
Update: both Ross and Rice are gone. Again.[Edited on June 25, 2024 at 9:52 AM. Reason : Lol]
6/25/2024 9:52:22 AM
I AM THRILLED WITH ISMAEL!!! GREAT PICKUP!!!WILL DUNK ON DUDES! [Edited on June 25, 2024 at 10:04 AM. Reason : he does have decent long range form and a quality jumper along with down low skills I like.]
6/25/2024 10:00:46 AM
^^wth. Rice isn't all that surprising. But Ross?
6/25/2024 10:14:40 AM
Ross also isn't all that surprising?I mean he left because we were attempting to recruit over him and only came back when we missed on targeted bigs in the portal. Now we signed a big and he's gone again. Will be tough to find someone who can do the three goggles on such short notice though.Definitely wonder if he ever actually withdrew from the portal or whatever. I'd assume he kept his options open and will be able to play this season somewhere, be it UTEP or elsewhere. Rice on the other hand never entered the portal so he will not be playing anywhere in the NCAA this season. Also, this doesn't surprise me because Ross (and Rice) had been notably absent from all the media shared by the official accounts of the players at practice.]
6/25/2024 10:22:21 AM
I mean, Ross's departure isn't too surprising, especially with the Canadian commitment. But just weird that he entered the portal, "committed" to another school, then announced he was coming back to State... only to leave a few weeks later.
6/25/2024 10:40:58 AM
Honestly i find the whole situation amusing (The Ross thing, not the rice thing. That's just kinda sad )
6/25/2024 11:18:01 AM
Ross wasn’t gonna get any legit mins next year with or without the Canadian transfer. So they’re kicked off the team? Or what’s the word with it? I get all my news from tww exclusively.
6/25/2024 12:34:45 PM
not sure... it's none of our business, but I really am curious about Rice's whole story. all i've ever heard/read is "mental health" or whatever.
6/25/2024 12:43:27 PM
No i think they both just left.
