^^ are you using double overhand grip or a mixed grip?
7/11/2010 4:34:31 PM
if that is directed at me, I have no clue what those mean. I am the n00b.[Edited on July 11, 2010 at 4:41 PM. Reason : google is my friend. brb. ]
7/11/2010 4:39:54 PM
I used either double underhand or overhand grips. I have never used mixed. The dead lift is with 50lb dumbbells in each...n00b.I am not talking about underhand with the dead lift. that is when I do other moves.]
7/11/2010 4:43:22 PM
you look GREAT amna!
7/11/2010 4:47:50 PM
7/11/2010 5:41:58 PM
o ok, you're using dumbbells for deadlifts?mixed grip only pertains to using a barbell...one hand supinated, the other pronated
7/11/2010 7:01:32 PM
Yeah, I do dumbbells for dead lifts. Is that not good? I am trying to be dependent upon my own stability but if you think I should use a bar to do them, I will do that. I want to get the most out of my lifting, I guess. Whatever is the best way.
7/11/2010 7:18:41 PM
the only thing I think you should do differently is lift weights before cardioother than that, you're doing fine
7/11/2010 7:28:38 PM
^^ you'll be limited on the amount of weight you can use by just using DBsI would switch to barbells and go with the mixed grip. Keep doing Romanian deadlifts until you can perform reps with 135...and then put the bar on the ground and try conventional deadlifts.
7/11/2010 9:14:28 PM
if you use a mixed grip, alternate which hand you have pronated and which hand you have supinated every set.
7/11/2010 11:44:36 PM
I would think she can still get some good use out of dumbbell deadlifts, being able to gain some stability from having to manage heavy dumbbells. I agree entirely that it would eventually get very difficult to do them with the higher weights, so maybe she can combine conventional deadlift with DBs along with Romanians until she can comfortably perform a conventional deadlift with 135. Though the grip may be too limiting...Why do you guys say to switch the grip on deadlifts between sets? Just to ensure equal muscle use between each arm?--Not much to report here. Did a lot of biking and walking over the weekend and my knee was sore as fuuuck, but its feeling a little better today. I can still feel its not quite right, but will continue my 4-day workout plan prescribed by Packman.
7/12/2010 4:18:33 AM
^probably to make sure there's balanceI usually try to use my weaker mixed grip until it start limiting how much weight I'm moving...and then I switch to my dominant grip

so is it possible to gain 10 pounds in less than 2 weeks?????i was on vacation and things were a bit hectic last week so i didn't get to work out as much as i normally do and i know on vacation i splurged a bit more on eating the bad for me foods but seriously....it's not like i laid up in bed for 2 weeks and didn't move around at all. is this normal? i'm wondering if i should go to the doctor.

Could someone in here with some nutritional expertise please go to this thread in the Soap Box --> message_topic.aspx?topic=577207&page=6 and explain to hooksaw that milk is better for you than Coca-cola? I thought it was common knowledge but apparently not and he won't get off my nuts. Thanks.
7/12/2010 8:23:35 AM
I got it covered...but it turns out soda is in fact healthier than milk.
7/12/2010 8:29:58 AM
worked out saturday morning at fletcher park...legs and cardio.today after work:upper bodycardiozumba...anyone else going to this class at 7 tonight? alexander Y on hillsborough st.
7/12/2010 9:07:09 AM
^^^^ You didn't gain 10 pounds of fat. Wait a few days and then weigh yourself again and it'll probably go down several pounds. You probably ate more restaurant/processed (read: SALT) foods than you normally do and are holding on to a bunch of water weight.[Edited on July 12, 2010 at 9:07 AM. Reason : .]

well i mean duh, i know my scale isn't lying....i just didn't know if it was possible to pretty much gain a pound a day over the course of 10-12 days it wasn't like i was laid up in bed eating angus burgers from mcdonalds. i just didn't know if it was humanly possible for it to happen.my concern is if i should go to the doctor or not and see if something else is going on. [Edited on July 12, 2010 at 9:31 AM. Reason : blood work.]
7/12/2010 9:31:22 AM

7/12/2010 9:33:04 AM

Ok cardio-haters who are good at/like basketball. We're going to start playing. Anywhere. I don't care. But WE ARE going to start playing. Period. Who is in?I know Quinn and porcha have mentioned playing before. I don't really care where we play -- outside. inside. north raleigh. downtown. cary. Wherever. Lets get a group together who will actually play consistently.I'm so sick of running. I want to play an hour or two of basketball to substitute my jogs three days a week or so.

7/12/2010 10:15:49 AM
It's hit or miss. Sometimes I feel like I could, sometimes I don't. But to answer your question. I don't want to do anything after plyo.

7/12/2010 12:31:01 PM
I've been out of town the last two weekends (4 days in Long Island, NY and 2 days in Manteo, NC) and with all the eating out and binge drinking I'm not even going to try to comprehend my caloric intake over those periods I've also been unable to get to the gym a lot during the work week over those 2 weeks so I'm gonna try to go every day this week (except tomorrow, donating blood so no gym that day). It's been about a month since I posted pics so I'll take some new photos and post my weight later tonight.

Ha, I haven't consistently played organized pickup in a year or so, but we used to play for 2-3 hours of full-court games and man I could barely walk the evening following playing, lol.*** I don't really know a good place to play around here that is reasonably close to people. I live near downtown so am pretty flexible. Someone throw some suggestions out there and we can get a group that can go.[Edited on July 12, 2010 at 1:14 PM. My fiance loves to play. He might be interested even though we are not doing the challenge.
7/12/2010 1:15:52 PM
Count me in for some pick-up ball. These attempts to organize games have a way of never happening though...
7/12/2010 1:18:08 PM
Yeah I think I've tried to get tww to play some pick up for three years now. We'll see. I guess we just need a time and place, looks like we've got some players
7/12/2010 1:29:30 PM
We had some earlier, but all the guys were creepin on begonias because she took off her pants to play in volleyball shorts.[Edited on July 12, 2010 at 1:42 PM. Reason : IT WAS ME]
7/12/2010 1:42:46 PM
We need a point man (ha! get it!) to organize the time, date and location...in advance. Not day of.
7/12/2010 1:45:25 PM
sadly I will not be playing in volleyball shorts anytime soon.
7/12/2010 1:53:39 PM
But currently you're sporting an LA face in addition to an Oakland booty. It would be a great pairing.
