is there a way for me to watch replays inside the game without downloading stuff?i bought this game last summer despite hating RTS games and I still hate RTS games....but I like watching matches
8/11/2011 1:22:43 PM
^Here's how you can watch outside the game:http://www.youtube.com/user/HuskyStarcrafthttp://www.youtube.com/user/day9tvhttp://www.youtube.com/user/HDstarcraftJust google SC2 replays if you want watch in game. [Edited on August 11, 2011 at 1:44 PM. Reason : -]

If you have the game already purchased, I don't understand what the big deal is or what all you are downloading? Are you talking about downloading the patches? You have to have those to be able to watch the current replays. You can always watch streams online on youtube and such too like Alk has posted below. Played a few last night with Zags and we were up to top 10 in our masters league. Had a few pretty good long games, one vs. 2 Terran where we ended up fighting over the last available resources and winning. Also had the best timed baneling bust in another game which is always fun when those types of strategies work.
8/11/2011 4:02:47 PM
i was just curious if there was like a replay theater in the game that played back top ranked player matches or something....sort of like in street fighter IV
8/11/2011 4:08:45 PM
not in game but you can definitely view and download replays on youtube and websites like sc2replays

The baneling bust was hilarious. We were playing ZZ vs PT, we had played one previously and got demolished by a really abusive hellion/phoenix build so we decided to just try and end it early this time around. I skipped speed and went for a fast 8 blings, titans went for just mass slings. He ran a sling up to scout and it happened to run just under his factory that the guy was swapping with the rax for the reactor. The guy even typed in "What lucky timing" or something as we got the free scout, 5 seconds later the blings poured in and took out the reactor and depot at the same time and it was an insta GG. The long TT vs ZZ was really fun too - the terrans were dropping all over and killed my gold like 3x. The map we were on had easy 2nd/3rds but past that pretty hard to hold a base. Its the 2v2 map that is split into 3 sections. We were basically fighting for the third base non stop to the point where we had two bases in the main and they had a planetary at the natural. My macro hasn't slipped too badly considering I haven't played in a while, but I'm going to bed bad soon considering I'm about to start taking 17.5 hours next semester and work full time... yuck.
8/11/2011 4:52:56 PM
That sucks. Going to have to get some games in before that starts and you have no time at all. Not sure how you can even take that many hours and work full time, and keep our SC2 skills up. I say quit the job, SC2 is way more important than food, or house payments. Not sure if anyone wants to see replays of the new zerg build I've been using but if so let me know if any zergs need a new style to try vs. toss and terran. It has been working great, nothing super groundbreaking but it is really safe, and strong through the mid and late game. Relies on getting infestors out pretty early so they can build up a lot of energy, getting really fast meele/carapace upgrades, and ultras. Neural parasite always works amazingly well with ling/ultra because your infestors stay alive behind the wall of units unlike when they are with roaches and easy to target. I use to think that ability was worthless and now it is making late game vs. heavy mech or colossi really easy. Something to try if anyone is sick of ling/bling/muta vs. terran and trying to use roach/hydra/corrupter vs. toss.
8/11/2011 5:16:30 PM
^I saw this on reddit, if you're neural-ing a thor or colossus, right before the neural runs out, select that unit and type /dance. It will dance for another 1 or 2 seconds without attacking.
8/11/2011 6:05:42 PM
lol that's pretty funny. another similar thing you can do is neural vikings, and right before it runs out you can land them and then if the person needs them for anti air they will have to lift them back up which takes time. Works good if you have a brood/ling/infestor type army and not a lot of anti air. It really is useful but you just have to be able to keep the infestors alive. I wish they were a bit smaller like ghosts or templars so they weren't so easy to target. They are like giant walking turds.
8/11/2011 8:53:34 PM
Don't forget to mention how they die if they're looked at funny.
8/11/2011 10:42:57 PM
thanks to Azaka for all the pro tips tonight. i think you helped me out a great deal.I'LL GET OUT OF BRONZE, YET!
8/12/2011 5:22:23 AM
So who is going to MLG Raleigh?
8/12/2011 9:59:28 AM
This guy! I'm taking Thursday afternoon, Friday and Monday off. I want to meet some of the progamers and get some pics taken. Also, the casters have been announced: Tastless, Artosis, Day[9], and Husky. I'm definitely going to meet the Plott brothers.
8/12/2011 10:18:53 AM
I'm considering it. I know I can get off work... I also don't want to be just wondering around by myself either. Any talk of organizing any bar gathering type thing for viewing yet?
8/12/2011 11:08:43 AM
It would be sort of weird to organize a meet up at a bar when the event is in town and only costs $25. I'm going to try to go and I'll likely be going alone as well. I've never been to this type of event before, but I figure it can't be too hard to find people to talk to and hang out with considering you're all there to nerd out and watch video games.
8/12/2011 11:24:14 AM
Not really, I go to watch NC State basketball games at bars all the time don't see how that is any different.
8/12/2011 11:32:06 AM
Whats it take to play in MLG? I'd consider playing in the open bracket just to see how far I can make it I bet I could win a few rounds so long as I'm not matched against a pro straight off.
8/12/2011 11:49:13 AM
I just figure the demographic size and cost of attendance are low enough that most of the people in the area interested in watching are probably just going to go to the event. I could be wrong and I have no reason to discourage someone from setting one up if that's what they want to do.
8/12/2011 11:52:47 AM
you can buy competitor badges on their site like you can spectator passes. Not sure if you can this close to the event but who knows?
8/12/2011 11:53:01 AM
It looks like you still can. $70http://store.majorleaguegaming.com/products/mlg-raleigh-starcraft-2-player-pass
8/12/2011 11:54:18 AM
Zags we should go play.
8/12/2011 12:01:08 PM
70$? Bleh. Maybe next time they are in Raleigh I'll commit to it a few weeks before hand and practice. Don't really have the cash to waste so soon after the wedding/honeymoon. Especially considering I've played like 5 1v1s in the last two weeks.
8/12/2011 12:33:20 PM
probably for the best you suck anyway.
8/12/2011 12:34:18 PM
Remember when you were being sneaky on your smurf account and got smashed by me? Really though we haven't played much 1v1, I would say we are both pretty equal though. Its zvz so its a coinflip anyways.
8/12/2011 12:52:44 PM
My younger brother (TheForged) and I are going, so if you're worried about being alone, you could get up with us. I will be hanging around downtown at the end of each day drinking/longboarding so if you don't make it to the event, come join in for a brew. If you want to check if a barcraft is being organized, check http://www.reddit.com/r/barcraft and http://www.reddit.com/r/TriangleStarcraft/. As of now, it looks as if nothing is going on in Raleigh to watch MLG Raleigh.
8/12/2011 12:56:46 PM
I'm going as well with a few friends. Here are the Pools/top 20 players:http://pro.majorleaguegaming.com/news/mlg-raleigh-starcraft-2-rosters-and-poolszomg idra has no ZvP matchups during pool play ]

Myself, Azaka, Golovko, and statepkt are going as well.
8/12/2011 1:43:24 PM
^^ I'm a big IdrA fan, and that shit is retarded.
8/12/2011 11:32:15 PM
Sorry Azaka and titans78 about last night. There was rolling lightening around my place earlier last night but I guess some residual stuck around until later. During our game I lost power and internet, said "Fuck it," and went to bed. Did you guys pull off the win?[Edited on August 15, 2011 at 8:59 AM. Reason : -]
8/15/2011 8:58:57 AM
Yeah we won, we were so far ahead when you disconnected it was basically a 2.5 v 1. Killed off the few void rays with your marines and that was pretty much it. Then Azaka and I played a few zvz 1's, which was good to practice but that matchup really sucks and is such a roll of the dice at times especially on 4 player maps where it is hard to scout early.
8/15/2011 11:23:10 AM
Whoop whoop

8/15/2011 2:21:47 PM
At that point though you are really using those banelings purely as defense, and then you might as well just go roach and block your ramp and you'll be pretty much safe against anything that comes early game, lings or baneling. I think you have to get that ling speed as fast as possible even if you go baneling or get into a baneling war because your speed lings can micro the banelings. The safest thing I've found right now is to go 14 pool/14 gas, and make 6 lings immediately. This will hold off a 10 pool, can barely hold a 7 pool w/ drones, and get you speed pretty quick. I'll then drop a baneling nest once I get 50 more gas and scout. If I see one base no roach warren I keep the baneling. If I see one base roach, or an expansion, I cancel the baneling nest, expand and either drop an evo chamber for +1 meele attack for a speed ling timing, or a roach warren to go into roach infestor. I hate roach infestor though cause my zvz infestor play is terrible. It just sucks when your like "lings or drones...ok I'll make 8 drones..." then your OL sees 24 speedlings coming to your base and you have no larva and its like ok well fuck thats game.

EG.Huk, EG.Idra and EG.Puma are making a house in Korea. Should be interesting. TL exploded with the news.
8/16/2011 12:19:05 PM
^ yep, the whole community seems to be going crazy over the news. I was never a big Huk fan and Idra seems to be sucking lately (he did his trademark rage when he got knocked out by a toss in IPL2) but yeah it'll be interesting to see how they do in the tournaments to come (beginning with MLG Raleigh!!!!1111)
8/16/2011 12:50:53 PM
Gotta imagine with idra going back to Korea MLG Raleigh is now huge for him to get either a Code A or Code S spot. Would suck to go to Korea and have to fight through open/Code B again to get back.Should be interesting. Although the hype around the announcement was ridiculous.

Haven't been able to play a ton because of school, but having a really good time raping forge first tosses with baneling busts. Either going 13h/15p or 14g/14p with an xpo at 20ish into an early baneling bust. At most they tend to have one sentry. Just gotta make sure they are going forge FE, if they are going 1 gate FE they tend to have a few more sentries.

Nice. I don't think I'm going to MLG... Maybe I'll go Sunday. Can you just show up the day of and pay and get in or have to buy in advance?
8/23/2011 12:15:15 PM
I dunno.
8/23/2011 12:52:46 PM
Hurricane Irene is supposed to hit this Saturday. Shouldn't affect any koreans/players/folks/etc that are flying in Friday or earlier, but it would really suck if the stream goes down. here's to hoping the meteorologists are wrong (as they usually are about hurricanes)... ]

Per the MLG e-mail that went out today:

1.4 up on PTR. Some major changes in store... should help zerg out quite a bit vs terran as it makes us even safer early game. Patch notes below.... but before that, I bring to you an epic ZZ vs TT from titans78 and I. Playing on discord, the 2v2 map where you both start on an upper shared main (and 2nds are hard to get, only one nat!). We had just gotten beat pretty easily by a TP team on the same map. It is a rough map for zerg for the most part. We decided to go for an early bling bust which we have been using effectively lately. Except titans78 starts the game off by being AFK the first 20 seconds. Lets just say - it went well. Watch for the epic 2 banelings vs 25 scvs on teal's side. http://www.sc2replayed.com/replay-videos/12242GeneralUnit vision up ramps has been reduced by 1.PROTOSSImmortalAttack range increased from 5 to 6.MothershipAcceleration increased from 0.3 to 1.375.The Mothership’s Cloaking Field no longer cloaks all units instantaneously, but rather adds units to the cloak field over time (maximum of 25 per second). This should alleviate “Mothership Lag” issue when a Mothership comes online.StalkerBlink research time increased from 110 to 140.Warp PrismShields increased from 40 to 100.TERRANBarracksBuild time increased from 60 to 65.HellionInfernal Pre-Igniter damage upgrade decreased from 10 to 5.RavenSeeker missile movement speed increased from 2.5 to 2.953.ZERGInfestorFungal Growth damage changed from 36 (+30% armored) to 30 (40 vs Armored).OverseerMorph cost decreased from 50/100 to 50/50.Contaminate energy cost increased from 75 to 125.UltraliskBuild time decreased from 70 to 55.
8/24/2011 10:53:45 PM
Here is another pretty funny game. Literally half a second was the difference in winning or losing. http://www.sc2replayed.com/replay-videos/12252And I had no idea that a cyber core takes 1 billion banelings to kill, thought it was the same as a forge. Thats what I get for not checking hp!
