How do I make my droid X take my google contacts out of my phone contact list (and my facebook contacts off my phone contacts list) or make it so the phone defaults to showing my phone contacts and not all of them at once?
7/15/2010 11:39:14 PM
Settings -> Accounts, click on the email associated with your phone and you should be able to uncheck there.
7/15/2010 11:55:36 PM
Also, in Contacts > Display Options > Select Only Contacts with Phones, that'll remove anyone from the contact list that you dont actually have a phone number for

you can just but the unsubsidized euro version of the Samsung Galaxy S which has everything from video calling on 3g to wireless tethering. Its about the same as the nexus one. and tru the galaxy s with froyo will run over the competition in every way xcept if u prefer a bigger screen and dedicated camera button.

Droid x already going in to backorder situation

For those that haven't yet purchased pdanet, I stumbled over what seems to be a bit of a flaw. After the trial period runs out you don't have access to https sites. However, at some point in the purchase process the software opens up ALL https sites (not just paypal). So, if you're really cheap you can just execute that little hack and get full functionality. This is with 2.42.And before the small-dicks rush in here and bitch at me, I went ahead and paid for a license anyway.

How do you go from "contacts" to "display options" ? I don't see it in settings...
7/16/2010 10:03:25 AM
whoops. Seems like people are having lots of problems with the Xhttp://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/droid-x-discussion/3441-warning-installing-3rd-party-launcher-will-break-your-blur.html
7/16/2010 10:19:52 AM
I need an app like "lockpicker" that circumvents my company's retarded lock requirements when I have my phone connected to their exchange server. Anybody know of one that works for the droid X?
7/16/2010 10:39:56 AM
^^
7/16/2010 10:49:18 AM
But having to factory reset just because you use a different launcher is a little silly. I'm fond of ADW Launcher myself.
7/16/2010 11:28:25 AM
well locking the bootloader is silly too
7/16/2010 12:19:45 PM
True. After the popularity of the Droid, they're really screwing themselves in the development community.
7/16/2010 12:23:56 PM
I mean look at the benefits of Apple being able to lock down it's hardware and force people to use it's content, manufacturer's are just trying to take Android (open-platform) and lock down the hardware so people only have "their" way of doing things.

att says they lied, captivate now costs 500 OOC
7/16/2010 7:59:08 PM
Did you expect it to be cheaper?
7/16/2010 8:30:22 PM
att said very clearly that it would be 350 out of contract, so yes I did expect it to be cheaper.
7/16/2010 8:35:01 PM
^5 I asked about contacts a while back. I never got an answer and I haven't figured out how to sort by last name either. The responses were generally geared toward "I don't care, I just use gesture search". Which, I too now just use gesture search.

Question about android software updates: do you need to backup all your settings/apps before hand or will things actually remain intact?[Edited on July 17, 2010 at 2:56 PM. Reason : ]
7/17/2010 2:55:47 PM
Nothing should be wiped. In any case, your apps, contacts, and some settings are backed up to google automatically.
7/17/2010 3:03:25 PM
are there any new phones coming out that aren't giant or is this the way things are going now?
7/17/2010 3:10:20 PM
The Galaxy S line seem to have a better form factor. Droid 2 is coming, keyboard is still kind of blah. Sure HTC has more devices up their sleeves also.
7/17/2010 3:24:23 PM
I went and looked at a Droid X in store today and I am glad I did: really nice and powerful phone but it actually did seem a little bigger than I want to carry around in my pocket all the time. I think I might go back to making the Incredible my first choice.

Anyone else have alchemy? This game us so addicting but I really want to throes.my phone against the wall.
7/17/2010 4:33:32 PM
^lol. Will try it ty. That's the one bad thing so far for me about Android (aside from no copy/paste in Gmail app which is supposedly fixed in 2.2 ). Games' graphics and framerates suck compared to even my old 3GS. Hopefully the Galaxy S phones will be a huge hit and other manufacturers will see the need to beef up their phones' graphics capabilities. Also, re:your previous comment about giant phones. The Galaxy is nearly as thin as the "iDon't(make calls)4," and only has a 0.5" bigger screen. I don't have large hands at all, and I can wrap my hand around the Evo. I'd agree on the Streak, which looks a bit ridiculous as a phone.
7/17/2010 5:26:38 PM
the evo and droid x are too big for me to comfortably carry. i am a big guy and have large hands, its just how they feel in my pocket thats a problem. its not an issue now because i don't buy new phones, but when i am getting one at their eol it may be annoying. the incredible is probably max size for me.
7/17/2010 6:44:20 PM
^yea when I was using the X today in store I *loved* having the extra screen real estate, but it felt a little too big for me to want to carry around in my pocket unfortunately :/. I was disappointed as I had seen the measurements and didn't expect for the size to surprise me in person. The incredible is a pretty small phone. Still very thin but not too large even with plenty of screen real estate. That's why I've kind of reverted back to that as my #1 and hopefully the initial battery issues people complained about aren't an issue anymore.
7/17/2010 7:19:41 PM
you can always grab an extended battery from Seidio. It was also just rooted, so I'm sure the custom roms are much better on battery life.
7/17/2010 7:27:13 PM
^,^^ I just got the official extended Incredible battery from HTC and it is awesome! I posted the link a page or two back. It's actually hard for me to run battery completely down in one day
7/17/2010 9:57:56 PM
^cool. What is the standard battery? 1300? And I see the one you linked is 2150, but how much thicker is it? Or do you even notice the extra thickness?
7/18/2010 1:51:30 PM
Picked up a captivate a few hours ago, loving it so far!
7/18/2010 4:51:46 PM
everyone download alchemy and help me out before i throw my phone at the wall
7/18/2010 5:01:30 PM
^x6 & ^x7Do you guys wear tight pants? I have my Evo in a thick silicone case and it doesn't seem large to me. I can definitely feel it, but that way I don't need to reach in my pocket to see if it's still there like I did with the iPhone (was always nearly losing that thing). Also, Costco still has the Droid X in stock if anyone is looking for it. It's sold out everywhere until July 25(?).
7/18/2010 5:21:37 PM
doesn't feel right in my carharts or my dress slacks, that's all i've tried it in but they are pretty different. maybe if i went back to 1997 and grabbed some cargo pants i could make it work.
7/18/2010 5:32:40 PM
^^ I will admit that the day I demo'd it I was wearing jeans and my jeans are more on the "fitted" side but that is what I am wearing when carrying my phone around in most of the time outside of work.Loved the phone outside of that though. It was really the only thing I didn't like a lot. I also agree with someone else after messing with a few different phones recently and then demoing the droid, incredible, and X all side by side: a 4" phone is probably ideal for me. Just a little more real estate than the Droid or Incredible but smaller frame than the X. In the end I think I'm still planning to order an incredible next week though.
7/18/2010 6:03:04 PM
That comment ^ reminds me about something that's been kinda bugging me. Random side-topic time!Have any other Droid owners noticed a dust or lint problem crop up immediately behind the glass front? I usually carry mine around in my pocket, and I've noticed that my phone has an increasing amount of dust particles coming in apparently from the upper-left corner. It doesn't affect the usability of the phone, but it makes the screen harder to read outdoors, etc.
7/18/2010 6:14:07 PM
^^lol, does this apply to cargo shorts as well? I wear cargo shorts and they seem to be selling them everywhere still. When I'm wearing slacks, I usually have a sport coat or suit jacket, so I have it in the inside pocket.^I can see how that might be an issue. I wear baggy jeans because they're more comfortable to me--and I can also fit big phones in them. Have you looked th the Galaxy phones? Even if you're stuck on Verizon, you might want to try the AT&T or T-mobile versions out to see whether it's worth waiting for Verizon's version (Fascinate, I think). The Verizon version looks the best also, IMO. I'd get the Sprint one if it comes out before my 30 days is up on the Evo. I really want qwerty & its gaming capability.
