Won’t be tonight, they postponed after the UNC shooting.

It’s official. Boo.
9/1/2023 8:09:25 AM
Double boo. If it's what we "have" to do to survive, then I guess, this is the least stupid option, but I hate that it's come to this. Whatever
9/1/2023 8:16:47 AM
It sounds like it’s a future hedge against the conference falling below 15 members if/when FSU, Clemson, UNC leave. If the league falls below 15 then espn gets to renegotiate (at least that’s what I read on Twitter so it must be true) and that would not be in the ACCs favor. It seems like State was the swing vote. And I don’t get what would’ve happened to cause us to change our vote.
9/1/2023 8:22:48 AM
Change name to Coast to Coast Conference so at least this feels less stupid.
9/1/2023 8:24:58 AM
I don’t even hate adding SMU. But Cal? Jesus fuck that. I couldn’t think of a more boring program to add. Or like I said before in this thread, just go all out and add several west coast/southwest teams and have an east vs west set up. Oregon State, Wazzu, Boise, SDSU. That’s more interesting than this.[Edited on September 1, 2023 at 8:27 AM. Reason : A]
9/1/2023 8:25:49 AM
I'm sure Cal was only added for Stanford's benefit. Much like how we ended up with BC because of Miami's insistence and that's worked out wonderfully for the conference! RIP Atlantic Coast ConferenceGood morning All Coast Conference]
9/1/2023 8:42:51 AM
Should’ve added Nevada Wolf Pack and Northern Colorado (UNC). Made for TV rivalries with State and UNC^ along those lines it’s kinda bullshit that partial member and spear headed this whole thing yet they won’t join fully. [Edited on September 1, 2023 at 8:48 AM. Reason : A]

Weren’t we the first to start expanding when we added boston college and the others? Seems right that we pay the price down the road
9/1/2023 10:54:53 PM
All Country Conference[user]Walter actually had the best idea in this thread. International expansion.
9/2/2023 6:43:54 AM
^^yep, as long as you ignore the ~100 years of expansion and realignment before that, then it was the ACC who started it
9/2/2023 3:38:06 PM
Lol. God created the earth. And he divided all the teams into conferences. Until the ACC expanded in 2004
9/2/2023 3:58:00 PM
Just gonna leave this here without comment.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1996_NCAA_conference_realignment
9/2/2023 4:34:59 PM
The whole conference expansion thing is so dumb. I agree I have zero interest in playing cal, stanford, and smu. I know no one from these schools or fans of these schools. Does this add another day to the NCAA tournament? Pretty soon it will be hard to win an acc title when you have 20 some teams to compete against.
9/2/2023 10:12:15 PM
We’re State. It’s already very hard to win the ACC
9/3/2023 7:17:35 AM
9/3/2023 8:08:13 AM
we need to just model it after European Futbal, and adopt regulation. Also all those cool ACC championships State has one in Olympic sports are going to take a hit with Cal and Stanford coming in.

Clemson first to announce leaving the Acc??FSU unc b1G Clemson ncsu sec?Interesting October
9/27/2023 3:54:25 PM
One point I'd never thought of but heard/saw somewhere recently -- Clemson can't join the SEC because they don't allow rushing the field. Have a hard time imagining them giving up "gathering at the paw"[Edited on September 27, 2023 at 4:28 PM. Reason : "they" being the SEC, "them" being Clemson]
9/27/2023 4:24:33 PM
I don’t know that I’d call what Clemson does rushing the field[Edited on September 27, 2023 at 4:49 PM. Reason : .]
9/27/2023 4:35:46 PM
They fined Vanderbilt for their "field rush" which is equally as tame, if not tamer.
9/27/2023 4:52:02 PM
I don’t think field storming rules will stop Clemson from going to the SEC. Even if that’s an actual sticking point, the SEC made exceptions in their rules for Miss State’s cowbells. Also I think we all know FSU, Clemson, UNC want to leave the ACC. Others too, but others probably don’t have the same demand that those 3 programs do. The GOR is still the major issue. Which nobody seems to really be able to figure a way out of it yet. I’m very skeptical of State being one of the first teams to leave the ACC (at least until lots of other chips fall).
9/27/2023 7:57:05 PM
ACC has released a new scheduling model to contend with the addition of Stanford, Cal, and SMU. We draw annually Duke, UNC, and Wake Forest. Disappointed we drop Clemson annually, especially since Clemson has only 1 annual protected rivalry in this model.Honestly I'd have to say Clemson's the biggest loser in this new model from a history perspective, losing the GT game and the Textile Bow. Part of the reason is their annual game against USC. I'd have to assume they still try and play those two games each year, but we'll see I guess. The new schools (Stanford, Cal, SMU) are only permanently playing each other, to the shock of absolutely nobody.[Edited on October 30, 2023 at 7:48 PM. Reason : I see now that this has been discussed more in NC State season thread. Oops.]

Clemson, FSU, GT, and Louisville are the 4 ACC teams with annual SEC rivalries -- GT and Louisville are the only teams in this model with no permanent annual rivals, Clemson has 1 matchup, FSU has 2 (Clemson and Miami). Meanwhile, every other team has 2+ annual rivalries in this model, including the newbies. That ain't a coincidence.Could Clemson have kept either, like FSU did with both Miami and Clemson? Sure, if they wanted to. But you gotta admit it's related.
10/30/2023 9:02:50 PM
Correlation does not imply causation. This is in fact a coincidence. And the new schools have permanent rivalries with one another in order to limit the number of trips out west the other schools have to make. That's why SMU is gonna play the California schools every year. Not because Clemson plays the Cocks so they can't have another rivalry game. They were always going to limit the number of permanent rivalries once they expanded. Louisville doesn't really have any natural/historical rivals in conference. Who knows, maybe Clemson requested to have no partners but the ACC forced FSU onto them?Honestly if the conference was going to give us three and include Duke, they should have gotten rid of the UNC-UVA game and partnered all the NC schools (they had no problem in the previous scheduling deal to get rid of the more historical ncsu-wf matchup, so they should have done it here.) But that would make too much sense]

It’s funny to me that Louisville has played VT 1 time since joining the ACC. It was in Louisville. They will travel to Blacksburg for the first time (in ACC play) in 2025. They joined the ACC in 2014!
