My droid X is due for deliver by 3pm!!

So is this phone going to be that hard to find? Motorola and VZW have gone on record saying it won't be a problem.
7/15/2010 8:28:57 AM
It is going to be very hard to find in a store today...from what I am hearing best plan is to order it and have it shipped overnight. Personally I would order it today rather than later for the simple reason if it goes in to back order you will still be ahead of that.
7/15/2010 8:30:22 AM
I don't really see it getting backordered for an extended period. You definitely won't see the issue like the Incredible has as there's no screen shortage to deal with.
7/15/2010 8:34:59 AM
That and Motorola actually has experience mass producing phones on the scale necessary for these, lets face it up until HTC started making android devices they really never had to produce on that kind of volume.
7/15/2010 8:41:16 AM
I'm going to head to a store this afternoon to see if they have a floor model to look at in person. Am I wasting my time or should most Verizon stores have a floor model out by now?
7/15/2010 8:43:53 AM
just got back from the verizon store in winston-salem. apparently they decided to open an hour early at 7 rather than 8, and they sold the last droid x to a guy a couple spots in front of me in line . but they're gonna fedex it to me by monday, and i don't have to deal with the activation fee or mail-in rebate, so i guess i saved a little bit of money. i still would've liked to have made this post from the phone though.
7/15/2010 9:17:13 AM
lol. You would've been better off to just order online with overnight shipping
7/15/2010 9:21:13 AM
God damn BBY in Briar (Brier?) Creek doesn't open until 10 . What kind of self respecting store doesn't open until 10?! Now I have to wait until after work to get my toy
7/15/2010 9:25:30 AM
FWP's itt. In other news, apparently Assurion doesn't have anymore refurbished droids and are trying to send people devours.
7/15/2010 9:35:44 AM
http://www.mobilecrunch.com/2010/07/14/droid-x-actually-self-destructs-if-you-try-to-mod-it/that's pretty weak.
7/15/2010 10:16:44 AM
^Sad to see them doing this.
7/15/2010 10:27:21 AM
Now they'e not sure if eFuse is actually enabled. All of the omap3 series processors apparently has it (i.e. Droid, Milestone, Droid X, Droid 2) but the question is whether or not Motorola actually enabled it. There's no bootloader security or efuse enabled on the Droid while the Milestone has a locked bootloader but the efuse still isn't enabled. They're thinking that the X may not be anymore locked down than the Milestone which still hasn't been cracked but the eFuse not being enabled would definitely be a good sign.
7/15/2010 10:39:10 AM
in theory, if 'efuse' was enabled, could an unsigned app trip it through some root exploit?
7/15/2010 12:12:39 PM
This is bullshit - Ordered mine at around 1am - Says it's still being processed yet people who ordered only a few hours ago already have shipping confirmations. What the fuck gives?
7/15/2010 1:28:14 PM
I got one this morning at the North Hills store. I got there about 7:15am. They were about 10 people already there. The store opened at 8am. The store manager arrived about 5 minutes after I did and said that everybody that was there then will get one. I had to wait an hour before I got my X setup and purchased. It is a great phone.
7/15/2010 1:32:07 PM
so after being so close to winning the Droid X last night i thought about it more, got to see and play with the device some, and the more i read about the bootloader lockdown, i'm actually happy to own the Droid.a) with a rooted Droid, my speed is near identical to the Droid X, both at 1Ghzb) with a rooted Droid, I get wifi hotspot (wireless tether) same as Droid Xc) with a rooted Droid, I can run Froyo (2.2) and Flash now, no wait.d) with a rooted Droid, I can obtain same battery life as Droid X, maybe bettere) with a rooted Droid, I can customize my themef) with a Droid, I can run Swype tooNow I do miss the lack of 4.3" screen, HDMI port, HD capture, 8MP camera and more memory, but I'm still happy with my Droid. I'm pretty sure I would have eBay'ed it for $700[Edited on July 15, 2010 at 1:52 PM. Reason : .]
7/15/2010 1:50:45 PM
I played with one briefly at the Verizon store in Fuquay. Only had 1 demo model. It's nice and feels good in the hand but definitely a little big for my taste.

Droid X Ok:I need awesome widgets to downloadLive wallpapersand an email app (unless someone with the droid x or similar can tell me how to set this up to my exchange server and pull my calendar from there down and so on)and especially a place to download/get/make ringtones. Thanks in advance.
7/15/2010 2:20:24 PM
7/15/2010 2:42:30 PM
Widgets: facebook/twitter/pandora/beautiful widgets/android agenda widget/scoreboard/news & weather/battery lifeCorporate: to work with corporate email & calendar (exchange/outlook) you need to pay the $15 for corporate email access.Ringtones: download and use this app: http://code.google.com/p/ringdroid/
7/15/2010 2:43:25 PM
you can access an ActiveSync enabled exchange server with the regular $29.99 data package. You should see a corporate option under the Email app to set up an exchange account. The Droid X should offer better exchange support than the Droid but if you need more, I'd suggest Exchange by Touchdown. Believe it's 19.99 but it's well worth it.
7/15/2010 2:50:10 PM
i've tried that before to no avail. the option is there yes, but never connects to exchange, i thought our exchange server had ActiveSync[Edited on July 15, 2010 at 3:00 PM. Reason : .]

I just connected my droid x to my corporate email and pulled down the calendar with no problemI nwed help with swype. Pointers on using swype effectively are welcome[Edited on July 15, 2010 at 3:11 PM. Reason : ]

I find the multitouch keyboard on this thing to be amazing. So much better than the iPhone's. I type incredibly fast on it.I can't get mine to connect to my wifi network. Good signal strength, password is correct, when I select the network it brings up the menu to connect, forget or cancel. If I press connect nothing happens. It doesn't even try to connect.I'm still trying to figure out this whole Android thing.
7/15/2010 3:36:12 PM
^Agreed. The multitouch keyboard is fantastic (and better than the incredible in my opinion)Anyway, did it pick up on the wifi automatically, or did you have to type the name in? If you had to type it in, it's case sensitive, and capitalizes the first letter you put in. I ran into a couple minutes of frustration figuring that out
7/15/2010 3:47:56 PM
It auto detected the network. There used to be an unsecured network in the area that I was going to try to see if it was my network but the Droid doesn't detect it even though the iPad 3 feet away does.
7/15/2010 3:51:59 PM
Picked up my Samsung Galaxy at lunch.... mother fucker is amazing. I had a G1 and a Nexus... this phone puts both to shame (shame may be a bit harsh regarding the N1).Amazing quality... I would encourage EVERYONE to go play with one, especially the way Motolora is fucking up the Droid line. The Galaxy is already rooted.
7/15/2010 3:54:12 PM
HAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHA... oh gosh, i can't stop laughing.... oh dear.... LogMeIn Ignition... they want $29.99 for an app that is worse than the $9.99 PhonemyPC app.
7/15/2010 3:54:34 PM
Oh, from the home page, go (if I recall correctly) two pages left, and turn on the wifi?
7/15/2010 3:55:33 PM
^^ yeah, I definitely won't be buying Ignition. I always use the PhoneMyPC app anyways and like it better.
7/15/2010 4:00:34 PM
Does anyone have problems with clicking the "install" button on apps in the market and being told that the app will be downloaded, but it doesn't actually get downloaded?
7/15/2010 4:13:59 PM
7/15/2010 4:16:36 PM
Wifi was my router lol. I should have seen that coming.I just got a dropped call with my roommate who is also on verizon not coolAlso, this thing must have a beast ass battery. It's been charging off the wall for over an hour and it's only moved from 50% to 60%]
7/15/2010 4:31:30 PM
what are the top music app replacements?
7/15/2010 4:42:36 PM
MixZing, Meridian, TuneWiki
7/15/2010 4:59:35 PM
Graphic benchmarks for Evo, Droid X, Captivate and Nexus One.
7/15/2010 5:49:20 PM
@CalliPHISH did you get the T-Mobile version?
7/15/2010 6:29:47 PM
For those who have an Incredible.http://www.droid-life.com/2010/07/15/finally-the-droid-life-incredible-has-been-rooted/
7/15/2010 6:47:24 PM
The Dell streak should be released in the next few days. Keeping my hopes up that it will be less than five hundred.without a subsidy.
7/15/2010 7:24:23 PM
Why get the streak when the Captivate is available?
7/15/2010 7:30:06 PM
The captivate doesn't offer much more than what's on my nexus one. I'm mainly looking for a better browsing experience and i'm hoping that the five inch screen delivers.
7/15/2010 7:48:59 PM
Look at that video that pttyndal posted a few posts up and tell me that Captivate doesn't offer much more than your N1. That phone is going to be amazing when it gets 2.2
7/15/2010 7:54:09 PM
7/15/2010 7:59:28 PM
The Galaxy S line of phones are definitely ahead of the N1 in every category. Better CPU and better GPU. Pretty much a must have for anyone who wants to play games on a handset.
7/15/2010 8:17:12 PM
Got my Droid X this afternoon when I got off work. Love it so far. Makes the Eris look like a 486 PC
7/15/2010 9:28:17 PM
7/15/2010 9:40:36 PM
You don't really need a custom rom for wireless tether. All you really need is root to get it working and Barnacle wireless tether doesn't even require a custom kernel. Also the Super AMOLED on the Galaxy S line should be crisper and easier to see than the regular AMOLED on the N1. That said, I still think the original droid has the best screen of the android phones with the size and resolution. I surf the internet more on it than I do my laptop.
7/15/2010 9:51:21 PM
That 5" screen coupled with the snapdragon = it's going to EAT battery. Plus it'll only launch with Android 1.6.IDK, it just really doesn't appeal to me like that Captivate does.
7/15/2010 10:00:50 PM
looks like the Droid and Devour are on their way out. Not really a surprise with the Droid X released today and the Droid 2 in the next month or two.
