well there was a bag with a 70-200 f/4L with my name on it friday night... seems as my wife decided to give me plenty of time to get used to it before our trip this fall. I can't wait to start using itno for an even tougher decision... 50 f/1.4 or 1.4x teleconverter for the 70-200....also anybody have any suggestions for a monopod?

"new" film camera ftw
5/22/2008 11:06:31 PM
Question: How does Wolf Camera justify charging $12.99 for 11x14 prints. When places like Adorama can do them for $3. I've used both for the same picture in matte and they look and feel almost exactly the same. Shipping is $7, but if you get more than a few prints it more than makes up for the shipping cost.just throwin' that out there.
5/23/2008 12:41:39 PM
convenience of being in person I suppose. and they are in the mall and all over the place. Its like how stuff costs more at the convenience store than at the grocery store.I just got my 55-250is lens and will be out all day tomorrow taking pictures
5/23/2008 1:48:16 PM
I fiddled with this one a little bit. Don't know if I like it or not.

Apologies for this post -- Im sure it has been answered somewhere but search didnt help outIm looking to pick up a DSLR on the relative cheap. Ebay has some deals for a Digital Rebel or D40, 1gb card, 18-55 stock lens, basic stuff, etc. They go for around 400-450 depending on whether you get a one year warranty or a bag. Is this a good route to go? In terms of ebay, camera and price? Feel free to reply or PM, thanks in advance

^Canon lenses are internal motors as well.
5/24/2008 10:45:57 PM
I know canon has internal motors available. I mean the d40 will only auto focus with lenses that are F mount and have internal motors. The XT that the d40 was compared to will auto focus any EF or EF-S lens.
5/24/2008 11:39:57 PM
Oh, right. I forgot that there were f-mount lenses that used a body mount motor.
5/25/2008 12:37:28 AM
got one today!snapped a couple quick ones of the kitty before charging the battery
5/25/2008 5:39:12 PM
How do you take such good pics? Do you mess with them before posting them on tdub?I've been playing with an slr recently knowing NOTHING about taking them except I tend to find cool angles and things pleasing to the eye. Are there logistics? Any advice? Is it really all photoshop?
5/25/2008 5:43:44 PM
^ Start paying attention to light and framing (composition). Those two things cover the majority of what makes a photo good.

^The cat picture is nice, the fact that you had the lens wide open blurred the background and put focus on the cat's face. The background in the cat picture doesn't show any sharpness or detract focus from the subject. The dog however, has a little too much going on in the background.
5/26/2008 2:24:38 AM
whats a d50 going for these daysalso how well do lenses hold their value
5/26/2008 7:00:34 AM
^go for a d40, you can find the package, with lens for around $400and lenses will hold their value (as long as they are cared for) for a damn long time...of course you have digital and nondigital lenses so that may make a difference in what you are looking for...but ya know

not looking to buy, thanks though... just wondering how well my stuff has held its value. acutally might buy more if it holds value and it wont cost a lot to upgrade. haha]

5/26/2008 11:38:33 AM
Just playing with it....
5/26/2008 9:17:45 PM
wow kiwi, nice. that second flower picture is amazing. what surface was it on?and statefan24, the cat picture is probably "better" as far as "pleasing to the eye" goes, but in terms of interest I like the dog. The framing could use some work and the flash washed it out a little, but you caught a curious expression in his face. I also like the color juxtaposition from a midnight bluish to dog-white or whatever you want to call it. Anyway, for what it's worth, I spent more time looking at the dog than the cat[Edited on May 27, 2008 at 3:30 AM. Reason : aDS]
