It doesn't look good, but i suspect they would make room (*cough* Blake Harris) if both Markell and lecque wanted to be here.

Kevin Keatts at WPC Coaches’ Caravan on roster math: “I’d just ask that you guys let me figure that out. We’ve got this.”So who here believes that

5/7/2019 1:32:43 PM
I'm going to let him figure it out.
5/7/2019 1:34:25 PM
I think everyone has already figured out that Lecque isn't coming here
5/7/2019 1:40:26 PM
Coaches probably know whether Lecque is coming or not at this point. Pretty sure I read that he stopped following Keatts and everyone affiliated with NC State on twitter.Hope is that Markell comes back and I think we have a solid top half of the ACC roster.
5/7/2019 2:12:35 PM
Yes, I literally posted that on the previous page.
5/7/2019 2:44:31 PM
If Markell comes back we maybe have the #8-9 roster, if not we will lose more games than Wake next year

"More games than Wake", man, you really haven't looked at some of the rosters in the ACC lately then. With Markell we're a top 6 or 7 ACC team on paper with a decent ceiling and should absolutely be a tourney team. Without Markell we're below average in the ACC but not in the bottom 4, but we still have upside. For the first time in a while we're actually returning a lot of guys from last year that have played together and we're looking at a 2-deep with guys that have played college ball(albeit not all for NC State).
5/7/2019 8:43:49 PM
If Markell doesn’t come back who will get us buckets next year? Beverly is usually a good shooter but ended the year in a big time slump. Bryce had a pretty good percentage but would disappear a lot. Daniels had some good games but wasn’t a consistent shooter either. I guess we hope that a offseason helps them all improve their jumpers.
5/7/2019 9:47:17 PM
This Dixon kid only started half the games for UM Kansas City and averaged 7.5 points. Before that he barely played at George Mason. What are we doing?[Edited on May 7, 2019 at 10:18 PM. Reason : ^Daniels and Bryce would have to make big jumps for us to make the dance w/o Markell]
5/7/2019 10:17:16 PM
If we don't take him, we just waste a scholarship. It's better than giving it to somebody that's going to be here multiple years and not be ACC caliber *cough* Harris and Walker *cough*He's a practice body and will hopefully be good for 5 minutes a game.

what you’re missing is we aren’t adding anyone of consequence at this point its May. all the better resumes are spoken for.

I find Keatts' attempt to win in the ACC with a worse roster than he had at UNCW admirable, but not especially smart

We had 1 scholarship to use. We have no starting time to offer at this point. This eliminates us from landing a top post-grad and any 4* or 5* kids. It's MAY and there are only a handful of kids that aren't committed/signed. Our options are: Take a 2*/3* project(like Gott did with Da Thaey) late and have them eat up a scholarship for the next 4 years. Try to find a traditional transfer that has to sit a year alongside Thomas Allen but wouldn't be able to help us this year. Try to find a post-grad that can give us experience and a few minutes but knows his role and knows he isn't going to start. Keatts chose 3, which is the best solution. You're not hamstrung with a tied up scholarship, he's a 1-year body for practice and can give you a few minutes if there are injuries or foul trouble. But let's be honest, if DJ and/or Bates got hurt this year and missed significant time, our team was going to be in trouble regardless. Now to people shitting on our team without Markell. Yeah Beverly was scoring at a good clip until midway through the season...when he started playing more PG. Now if Markell is gone he should have the entire offseason to work on making the move to his new position and we can work on finding ways to get him some looks(like Markell got). I get Bryce and Daniels were a bit up and down last year, especially with Bryce tweaking his knee, but it was their first year back after sitting out a year and team chemistry was new. The expectation HAS to be that they'll be better this year, with a year of ACC play under their belt and playing in this system with this team for another year. I'd say without Markell it's going to need to be a more balanced scoring approach where we don't have 1 guy dropping 25 any given night and instead we have 4-5 guys scoring double-digits. Think we can absolutely accomplish that with Beverly, Bryce, Daniels, Andree, and DJ.
5/8/2019 9:30:51 AM
How do we have no starting time to offer when Markell and Funderburk are the only two guys who should be starting for an ACC team
5/8/2019 9:37:00 AM
5/8/2019 10:47:54 AM
^Well he should have!
5/8/2019 11:05:06 AM
Our starting 5 if Markell is here: PG: Markell(SR) - 25.3 minutes per game, started 30 games, averaged 12.6ppg. G: Beverly(JR) - 29.5 minutes per game, started 29 games, averaged 9.4 ppg. G: Bryce(SR) - 27.2 minutes per game, started 35 games, averaged 11.6ppg. F: Daniels(JR) - 23.5 minutes per game, started 13 games, averaged 9.3 ppgF/C: DJ(JR) - 19.9 minutes per game, started 1 game, averaged 8.8 ppg. We return 6 of our top 7 scorers and we have a bunch of upperclassmen. Do you think team chemistry is going to be great if you bench one of those dudes for a true FR? Do you think a grad transfer wants to slide into a situation without a clear chance at minutes? Andree knows he's going to look at 20-25 minutes per game, can we really offer that to anyone else at this point? If Markell leaves then yeah you'd have some opportunity at PG but it's hard to pitch that until Markell makes his intentions known to everyone(last date is May 29th). If you're Keatts you clearly hope that Markell comes back because you aren't going to bring in a guy as good this late.[Edited on May 8, 2019 at 11:23 AM. Reason : .]

^^^who gets rebounds in that lineup?Daniels/Bryce might be Dorns height but they don't rebound like him, at least not yet
5/8/2019 12:25:15 PM
Yeah I don't see any circumstance where all of Johnson/Beverly/Daniels/Bryce start. That is not a winning combination, especially in league play. Andree and Hellems will likely split minutes at the 4 and hopefully Funderburk can play some there with Bates at the 5.That small ball lineup wouldn't be good at either end of the floor.

Markell isn't going to be drafted in the NBA this year, that is 100% clear at this pont. Comes down to whether Markell wants to come back and play one more year in college and try to push himself into the NBA(and finish his degree) OR if he wants to just go get paid to play overseas. This is actually the opposite of the Trevor Lacey situation because Markell is actually young for his class and Lacey had a RS year.
5/9/2019 9:17:53 AM
Cone to VT. Hope this is more evidence in the "Markell is coming back" basket, I'm sure the coaching staff knows also, but just wish he'd announce something publicly sooner than later.
5/9/2019 4:49:35 PM
Now that he's chosen VT I can finally say I'm happy we won't be having a 5'8 point guard trying to defend ACC perimeter players for the next 3/4 years.
5/9/2019 4:55:16 PM
The recruiting has been underwhelming to say the least.

So the G League is more desirable to him?
5/17/2019 1:09:13 PM
yeah kinda mixed signals there. seems like the feedback he's gotten is that he's already shown well and to not add any more before decisions are handed down; the SI article makes it look like he's got a G League ceiling. he had said before he had no interest in G League and it was NCAA or NBA, but who knows now that he's been exposed to the show. Markell seems to be just biding his time trying to decide how much he hates schoolwork? I'd hate to see him go to Europe and just fade away.
5/17/2019 1:23:27 PM
I hate recruiting.
