[no shooting]

Fucking powertripping cops.

Glad she won, but at the same time, it also means that a normal citizen fucked over by the system has to go through multiple courts and court losses for 5 fucking years before finally getting their rights. Who has that much patience and strength? Most people don't go to court, or give up after the first loss, which means most people fucked over never get their rights. And this isn't even anything 'serious' in the grand scheme of things. What about those who are unjustly assaulted or shot?

So, in order to protect people, you have to shoot at them in a crowded store, when you have no clue where your bullets might end up... WTF

Apparently asking to see a warrant is a capital offense. And, of course, no indictment.

between shocking murders committed by police with impunity, increasing racism and bigotry, Qanon, gun nuts, trumpists, antifa, alt-right, white supremacists, and uncontrolled and unchecked corporato-klepto-plutocracy leading to increasing poverty and ecological degradation... something is going to go down in the not too distant near future.

massive violent riots, societal upheaval, race war, mass murders, revenge violence... it is all coming.

i hope not, i really hope not, but that's the way it seems to be headed, especially when you look at what people in some of those groups themselves are saying

It'll be be interesting to see what the charges are. This'll be the second time he's been beaten by the police, and in the first instance, all charges against him were dismissed. His only other run-in with the law was for speeding over 20 years ago.

Given how doggedly the police monitor and pursue people of color, his lack of a criminal record is very consistent with someone who is genuinely out there just tryna live and not hurt anybody. I mean, this guy doesn't even have youthful indiscretions.

Of course, his behavior in the video is combative. Maybe he was off his meds, suicidal, on drugs, I dunno...so it's not right to single out these particular officers who were tasked with subduing him. But why was he being followed by the police in the first place? How does he make it to 44 years-old with no criminal record but still warrant being beaten unconscious by the police twice?

that video cut out a few minutes of him connecting haymakers on the cops while seeming unfazed by a tazer and baton hits. one of the female cops got laid out by a punch.

In the 2016 incident, he was involved in a wreck on 540 and attacked the tow truck driver that showed up, then attacked the cops. His brother claims that he was committed to Holly Hill after that incident. He also was arrested in 1992 for breaking into cars, so I don't know where you're getting information that he has no criminal record.

Witnesses to this incident say he stopped his vehicle in the middle of the intersection, hopped out barefooted and shirtless, and the cops showed up immediately after. That doesn't sound like a profiling traffic stop - more like the cops were called for something serious he did elsewhere and this is where he decided to take a stand.

There are legitimate complaints of police brutality around the country. This is not one of them. It's just a deranged man trying to fight cops, hurting a few of them in the process, and eventually getting beaten into submission.

The family "calling for justice" is understandable, but they are not unbiased in this case.

^ based only on the information in this thread and the video, I would tend to agree with that in this case.

The cops didn't shoot the guy (which would have been wrong), and they didn't tase him (which maybe would have been justified). They tried to subdue him with just physical strength, which is what people have been wanting them to do.

However, I didn't see what lead up to this... if he really just pulled his car out and started acting nutty that's one thing, but if the cops instigated this interaction like they often tend to do, that's another.

^^^My information came from an old article. Your update makes more sense. Also:

Quote :
"Family described Hall as quiet, hard-working, and religious, noting he worked two jobs. They declined to say where he worked, but noted he had been sent home from one of his jobs from working too many hours prior to the encounter."

^^The family calling for justice is only kind of understandable. I get that they're being pressured by various activist groups, and I understand the motivations and tactics of those various groups. I don't like any gang of people being legally authorized to dole out beatings like that, and I'd be willing to sacrifice our "sense" of public safety to reduce these encounters.

But the people who need convincing on criminal justice reform are going to be the opposite of persuaded by this situation. If anything, activists have disseminated a video of a large, shirtless black man punching women in the face in the middle of a busy intersection at 11 o'clock in the morning. Tough-on-crime voters are currently nodding to one another: "See? What'd I tell ya!"

They did tase him, but it didn't seem to do anything at all. maybe his shirt was off because he was sweaty - I could see being covered in sweat causing a taser to not be effective at pushing a current through the body.

Being pinned down on hot asphalt shirtless and barefoot in the summertime was probably more painful than any of the blows the cops managed to land.

yeah i didn’t praise anybody

these cops are still shitty and i’m sure they’ve looked the other way to protect their other shitty coworkers in the past

and they probably did everything wrong in the interactions with this man that occurred before the incident because cops love to escalate shit with mentally ill people

Holy shit, more of this please. AG in st. Louis straight up says she wont prosecute any cases that involve 28 specific local cops. The reason: she has to defend the credibility of the Justice System!!!

(Wasn’t sure of the best thread to put this, but there had been discussion of the role AGs play in letting cops off ITT. This is a huge step.)

The officer was on the wrong floor and her key didn’t work (because obviously it was the wrong apartment). Dude who lived there opened the door. She shot him.

And she’s not been arrested.

So they got a warrant for the victim’s apartment and found weed. And of course that’s being reported widely. Somebody that understands and knows the process better than me will have to explain why a warrant to search the victim’s apartment was necessary.
