I saw that earlier today, yea, I guess it hasn't been posted yet, I'll add the "extras" app has an Android emulator in it... Which you can download and use without having access to Inventor yet.http://appinventor.googlelabs.com/learn/setup/setupwindows.html[Edited on July 12, 2010 at 8:22 PM. Reason : .]

Installed the latest Sapphire 0.8.4 release for the droid and things are pretty snappy. Looks like a CM6 RC is also up in rom manager
7/12/2010 9:22:18 PM
2.1 Roms are definitely worth it for the Evo if anyone was wondering. About to flash Fresh 1.0 beta that was built on 1.47 holla!Probably Fresh Toast kernel too. Should I opt for BFS or not?
7/12/2010 9:52:23 PM
any android phones able to draw a straight grid on the touch screen?
7/13/2010 12:00:36 AM
^ lol we read that article tooyou do a lot of grid drawing?
7/13/2010 12:45:11 AM
lol. Exactly. The screens are plenty accurate unless you plan on drawing on your phone. Not to mention you can hold them any way you like. looks like the Vibrant and Captivate have already been rootedhttp://www.androidcentral.com/us-samsung-galaxy-s-variants-rooted-release
7/13/2010 8:25:42 PM
finally got the incredible and have been messing around with it. i have a two part question: 1:is there way a native way to close apps?(without using the advanced task killer, which i downloaded anyway) 2:is it necessary to close apps when you're done with them? i'm guessing no, since i can't figure out how to do it without the downloaded thing.
7/13/2010 10:58:52 PM
You can kill running services by going to Settings > Applications but no in theory you shouldn't have to do this.
7/13/2010 11:33:59 PM
i figured that they would be rooted considering the galaxy s was rooted a few weeks ago
7/13/2010 11:47:35 PM

7/14/2010 11:14:12 AM
Has anyone gotten the 2.2 release for the Moto Droid yet?
7/14/2010 12:36:27 PM
Last I heard it was still late July, Early August. There was a rumor of the 13th but haven't heard anything else about it. I'd just root and say screw it and stay ahead of the curve. That's one main reason I no longer have a desire to consider the Droid Xhttp://www.androidcentral.com/motorola-bootloader-lockdown-explained
7/14/2010 12:50:53 PM
P3Droid, the guy who does the kernels and got the early release of Froyo 2.2 (most likely has an inside source), has claimed August 7thhttp://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/motorola-droid/3378-breaking-news-tentative-release-date-andriod-2-2-motorola-droid.html
7/14/2010 12:55:58 PM
7/14/2010 1:02:49 PM
^I'm not up for a phone for another 2 weeks but I'm hoping to snag one then for sure.
7/14/2010 1:51:21 PM
is it just me, or does that Droid X look huge (and I'm an Evo owner)what are the good music app replacements? this stock one is pretty horrible.also i'm wondering if facebook is ever going to update their crappy app.
7/14/2010 2:09:16 PM
It's slightly taller than the evo and a littler narrower.
7/14/2010 2:11:51 PM
and it's got a bulge too right? i'm wondering how that thing will do in peoples pockets...<1--[Edited on July 14, 2010 at 2:26 PM. Reason : -->]
7/14/2010 2:25:04 PM
If I'm not mistaken, the bulge is about the same size as the evo, the rest is thinner so it probably won't be that bad]
7/14/2010 2:27:27 PM
gosh the suspense is killing me, I work downtown and have my bike, I got a good shot at this and I'm hoping the tip is sent out soon
7/14/2010 2:32:13 PM
Anyone try out the new Swiftkey Beta keyboard?I did, seemed very accurate and much faster than stock.... not as good as swype in my opinion though (of course I did not like swype my first time too).I realize the bootloader on the X is locked (and will stay that way). But, you can possibly still get root and use apps that are for only root users right? This will just prevent flashing custom ROMs I believe. That alone is a deal breaker. If I was on Verizon I would wait for the Samsung Galaxy Fascinate.
7/14/2010 3:17:27 PM
Also, lost my G1 the other day... if you do not have Lookout on your phone, you should.
7/14/2010 3:23:12 PM
bootloader is how you flash ROMs that give you root, you can't root a stock ROM, unless there's a workaround that can do it without the bootloader, so possible yes, but doubtful.[Edited on July 14, 2010 at 3:29 PM. Reason : .]
7/14/2010 3:27:24 PM
nah, a device with a locked bootloader can still be rooted for apps like wireless tether, etc but custom roms is a no go unless they hack the bootloader. I believe there's a similar issue with the Milestone.
7/14/2010 3:30:59 PM
^ yeah, okay.. just wanted to make sure I was correct. Motorola is really missing the boat with a LOT of potential customers. I would never buy a phone that would prevent me from loading a ROM from the android developers.Samsung took note and is hoping for the community to appease their slow update process, that is smart.
7/14/2010 3:35:58 PM
Response from one of the Sapphire developers over at DroidForums in response to my question wondering if/when the bootloader may be cracked. Motorola is really screwing themselves over.
7/14/2010 3:45:38 PM
^^I have Prey but it's been freezing up ever since I flashed. Maybe I'll check that out.
7/14/2010 3:47:22 PM
^^like i said, not likely, there are very few phones that are rooted sans bootloader method.
7/14/2010 4:06:34 PM
7/14/2010 4:25:39 PM
Motorola is really good at locking down phones when they want to. Look no further than the Backflip for evidence.I'm sure someone will figure out root and get a bootloader fix/workaround, but it won't be easy without special motorola developer keys/tools.The Dell Streak appears to finally be coming out on the 19th on ATT. It's another decent phone, but a bit big for my tastes (5" screen).
7/14/2010 5:06:05 PM
stupid. was the video shot using the Droid X? b/c all the cool people are shooting their video with their phones. lol.

AT&T Captivate Hands-On
7/14/2010 6:34:25 PM
Best buy has my Droid X but they won't give it to me until tomorrow even though best buy's around the country are selling theirs early.
7/14/2010 6:59:58 PM
it's 5pm in Denver and they still haven't released the details for the Droid X yet... argg....
7/14/2010 7:05:15 PM
I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it or not. Custom roms was something I was really looking forward to, even though the standard motorola software looks pretty good. I guess I'll have 30 days to decide.
7/14/2010 7:13:46 PM
TEN FEET AWAY!!!!!!!!!
7/14/2010 7:46:01 PM
here's proof before they post their own pictures up:the guy holding the number had his dad & mom searching, his dad pictured in background had a handheld GPS that gave him distance of within 16ft of the GPS position.i may be in the video, who knows. got $20 VZW gift card out of it.[Edited on July 14, 2010 at 8:29 PM. damn. ooooh so close.
7/14/2010 8:34:52 PM
they said "south denver" 30-min before the GPS coords, i biked 3.2 miles STRAIGHT to Wash Park, was there right when they posted the GPS coords, biked around the area, went down this path right to this sign where the guy found it probably 10 seconds before i would have found it. GRRRR!!!at least i didn't take the day off of work like some poor saps did...

I've had all the iPhones including the latest iPhone 4 as well as the Nexus One(rooted to cyanogen 2.2) and i have to say the the new samsung galaxy S (euro version) is straight up the perfect phone for me.. i feel that a 4 inch screen is the sweet spot between the 4.3 and 3.7. Plus the screen is amazing to see.. You have to see in person to truly embrace all its glory.. I didn't want to get the captivate 1st cuz they tagged it with at&t which is minor but still.. you get the front facing camera and the unlocked market(i think you can bypass it by rooting the captivate) and the overall look of it versus the us version.. i like being able to actually click the home button instead of a touch sensored one.. idk just my opinion.. heres a video of it using att in the us.. (this is not me in the video.. he really needs to cut his fingernails..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQJDd8aIjpg[Edited on July 14, 2010 at 10:48 PM. Reason : bad link]

If anyone wants a Droid X they are going to be in short supply at all the stores (i.e. you cant find one).....if you text me tomorrow before 6pm and have your order processed you can pick it up at my work (brier creek store inside bjs) after 3pm Friday.919 six one two 7900 - Just text me you are looking for a droid and I will call you back.
7/14/2010 10:56:12 PM
I'd rather get the captivate than a european Galaxy S. Paying 200 (or 350 out of contract) vs. paying ~600The captivate looks better IMO. It also has 16 GB onboard memory. No flash or front camera kinda sucks, but I'd take 1/3 the cost everytime. If I ever bought one of these out of contract I'd definitely root it. I imagine there will be plenty of good custom ROMs to try out before long
7/14/2010 11:27:37 PM
planning on getting to the verizon store in winston-salem a few minutes before they open at 8am to try and get a droid x. hope there's not a line...[Edited on July 15, 2010 at 12:27 AM. Reason : .]
7/15/2010 12:21:54 AM
is it really only $300 out of contract.. i just assumed it would be the same as the euro one.. seeing that i just used my upgrade to buy the iphone 4 and then sold it for $800.. plus i also sold the nexus one for $500 so i just used that to buy it off clove tech from uk for $560.. they have custom roms already out at Modaco http://android.modaco.com/category/434/samsung-galaxy-s-s-modaco-com/
7/15/2010 12:24:46 AM
per ATT it'll only be 350 for an out of contract captivate
7/15/2010 12:25:48 AM
ohh well.. i like my front facing camera and home button..
