Obligatory Matt Sharp must partake.

GBV was AWESOME.

You don't get the full effect of "Game of Pricks" until five plastered guys your dad's age are beating the shit out of it. 10/10.

Best Coast is opening for the Weezer Blue/Pinkerton shows in LA; not in New York, though. Got a ticket to the Pinkerton night, as I could not afford both sadly.

GBV was indeed awesome. I was against the stage and had Demos in my face more than a few times.

I had to roll my eyes at a couple of people in line near me before the doors opened.

"I never got to see Guided by Voices the first time, so I'm thrilled. I figured I'd only get to see a Boston Spaceships show or Bob solo at some point. I can't believe I'm gonna get to see the classic line up. Bee Thousand is such a great album."

*out walks Mitch Mitchell to shake hands/shoot the shit with the people in line*

"Wow. That was pretty cool. Who was that?"

Me- "That was Mitch Mitchell."

"Is he in GBV or with the opener?"

Me- "He's in Guided by Voices."

"Is he the drummer?"

Agreed, I loved GBV. Bob Pollard was literally doing kicks all night. And Mitch Mitchell was hilarious; HE'S IN IT FOR THE SWEET CAROLINA PUSSY!!! (according to the man himself)

Plus, THREE encores. Three. Never seen more than one at the Cradle. Great show.

Bob 1 had a bad accident and had to have surgery on his hand, so full band DEVO is out for Moogfest.

With that said, Mark & Gerry are both showing up and there will be some sort of DEVO thing going on, even if it is with a different band as backup.

Could be pretty awesome, like when the Smashing Pumpkins set at the Cradle turned into a three hour acoustic set because Jimmy Chamberlain got stung in the eye by a jellyfish the day before.

i figured he booked into lincoln and was going to argue for the fact that the lincoln is a wonderful room that suffers from the worst booking and event management in town

but then i looked at the schedule, and you're right

haha

BTW, future islands/lonnie walker/motor skills tonight is pretty damn close to sold out, i'd say get your tix online because the chances of getting in at the door are slim to none

FI/LW have a 7" split that's out today and features what might be the best LW song so far (and def. my favorite riff)

UPDATE: Future Islands is sold out. A handful of tickets left from CD Alley may make it to the club, but it's doubtful you'll be able to get in at the door.

Also, just announced

WILD FLAG (2/3rds of Sleater-Kinney + Mary Timony) at Local 506 on March 11

yessssss

they put on one of the most lackluster performances during hopscotch, but she's still awesome to look at

Ponderosa back in Raleigh again and back at Slim's at approximately 10:30

i know a few folks who caught part of their set as the earliest show at Hopscotch said they wanted to see more of 'em, so i thought i would post it here.

they're a really fun band to see live.

Saw Sufjan last night at Thomas Wolfe Auditorium in Asheville. Dude has definitely lost his fucking mind, in the best, most artistic way possible. His show is so fucking insane that it makes perfect sense. Incredible show.

And to hear him talk about it between songs is really interesting. You can tell that he himself is confused about the directions his art has/is headed in, but that it's just where his creative self took him. He talks about how he really lost it for awhile and in doing so, really identified with this folk artist Royal Robertson's insane, apocalyptic vision and the heartbreak behind it, and that this whole album/show is his attempt to pay homage to Robertson.

Thursday is doing a 10 year anniversary tour for "Full Collapse." First time I saw them was 2001 and I haven't seen them since probably 2003 (mainly because I haven't really desired to) but I will definitely plan to go to this if they have any dates close to me. I think they will be playing Charlotte at least.
