OH WE BACK
5/24/2017 11:46:18 AM
5/24/2017 11:47:44 AM
now if we could just get Henderson back for another year and clear up the Markell rumors, we'll be rolling for 2017-2018. really think we can at least make the NCAAT this year.
5/24/2017 11:47:45 AM
^idk about making the NCAAT. i'm not saying we have no chance at all. but i don't think it's a realistic expectation at this point. we are talking about a team that won like 4 ACC games last year and doesn't return its best player and loses its #3 scorer (Mav, i know yall hate him) and potentially all of our top 3 scorers if Hendy doesn't get that 6th year.we absolutely could make the tournament. but we need a lot of improvement from Omer (nice that he's back), Dorn, Markell...and Hicks and/or Kirk need to be serviceable at a minimum, really. and that's all assuming Henderson gets that 6th year. I think the coaching has been SOOO bad + a new coach with energy = UUUGE turn around
5/24/2017 1:44:33 PM
Sucks about Kapita, but could have been worse

The game should feel a lot slower to Yurt, so I would expect that he make a big leap this year. He clearly showed that he has a good skill set for an offense to run through him, but he seemed way out of his league last year. This could* be a good early indicator to be able to judge Keats's coaching ability. On the other hand, Yurt may not fit very well into his system, and we just have a rehash of last year.
5/24/2017 2:43:20 PM
yeah, i think Gott was pretty terrible this past year and it was obvious there were issues beyond just talent that prevented us from winning games. having Henderson eligible (if he is) will be nice for this season, since it'll give us a scorer who has actually played for NC State before. one possible positive is that we could potentially have some very experienced players which is generally a good thing. Hunt, both Freemans, Hendy, Abu, and even Dorn are all very veteran. but several of these guys have a ways to go before i'm gonna get too excited about this 2017-18 season. and after this year, we lose Abu, Hendy, both Freemans, Hunt, maybe Yurt7 decides to go pro next year....there'll be a ton of roster turnover in 2018 and that 2018-19 team could be really young. getting CJ Bryce would help in that regard a lot.

We're going to be relying on transfers and post-grads until Keatts can get the roster built like he wants. The spacing in regards to position and class is a bit of a mess.
5/25/2017 7:52:10 AM
yup. our entire frontcourt, aside from Darius Hicks, will likely be gone after this season. and if Yurt's not gone, it's probably because he isn't very good. so that's putting a lot of pressure on freshman in 18-19 to come in and get serious minutes. grad transfers obviously can help bridge that gap. we're still after Bryce and Daniels as regular transfers, but they won't help in the frontcourt, obviously. we're not really recruiting any transfers that would be eligible in 18-19 for the frontcourt, so freshmen and grad transfers will probably be what we have to do. luckily the backcourt is spread out nicely if they all return and stick around...Henderson, Al Freeman, and Sam Hunt will be gone after this year (assuming Hendy gets a 6th year). but we'll still have Markell, Batts, and Dorn going into 18-19...and potentially Bryce or Daniels as transfer guys that season. but the frontcourt is obviously the main concern looking ahead.
5/25/2017 9:25:21 AM
Yeah getting Bryce is a big piece to the puzzle in fleshing out our depth chart and spacing. I mean based on our current roster and projected departures, our roster for next year looks like: Guards: Johnson(Jr), Batts(So), Dorn(RS-Sr), Newman(RS-So)Forwards: Hicks(Jr), Kirk(Sr) And that's it. Guess we can offer a ton of PT to FR though. I imagine we'll be looking at GR Transfers again next year depending on how 2018 recruiting goes. We really need a solid(with talent and numbers) '18 class.
5/25/2017 10:14:21 AM
we have an offer out to JUCO wing Mike'l Simms...3 years of eligibility left, which is nice. Pitt (i think they have offered basically every transfer/juco guy), ECU, VCU, Wichita, St. Bonnies, Texas Tech, and other mid-majors are after him as well. he'd be eligible for this coming season.

Get Mike to try it. Mike'l try anything.

I'm not gonna get real excited about a transfer from Cow College.
5/26/2017 12:16:34 PM
You mean the Martin twins?
5/26/2017 5:39:31 PM
bryce is supposed to announce today...between us and SC
5/27/2017 5:46:30 AM
James Henderson (PPride..)...is predicting SC.
5/27/2017 8:30:08 AM
^and the rivals guy (thewolfpacker) said he'd surprised if Bryce didn't pick State. so who the fuck knows.
5/27/2017 10:00:39 AM
Is Bryce a malignant or benign CJ?
5/27/2017 11:35:26 AM
Got him (Bryce) Red Light!

5/27/2017 1:14:24 PM
Big day
5/27/2017 1:54:44 PM
Looking at the current 18 roster, my prediction is one of these guys (I would guess Daniels, seems to have long arms) will be playing a good amount of the 4
5/27/2017 2:14:49 PM
This is quite good.
5/27/2017 2:17:41 PM
5/27/2017 2:38:25 PM
Huge day! Both guys have to sit out next year, right?
5/27/2017 2:48:36 PM
yeah, then Bryce will have 2 years of eligibility remaining & Daniels will have 3
5/27/2017 2:55:15 PM
Keatts is killing it already. I still think NCAAT appearance is possible this year and now next year. I can't wait to see us in 4 years or so when he's got a full class. Might also work out well timing-wise with Roy/K/Pitino/Boeheim all retiring.
5/27/2017 3:15:18 PM
I'm not setting my expectations too high for this year, but if things break right for us (yurt7 and markell taking significant steps forward, for example) we could certainly be solid. But it's also not hard to imagine a scenario where we aren't much better than last year. My "goal" for this team is to just see a significant improvement in defense and effort...and to see our young guys like Markell, Hicks, and Batts progress this year. Getting Bryce and Daniels is huge for 2018-19, the front court will surely be an emphasis in recruiting...we may be active on the grad transfer market for that as well. But these two transfers make 18-19 look much much better
5/27/2017 3:23:09 PM
i think having a coach who is a great recruiter and not a terrible coach will make us immediately better.
5/27/2017 4:01:15 PM
^ yes.
5/27/2017 4:14:14 PM
in hindsight, we really should have listened to horsey mchorseface
5/27/2017 4:25:00 PM
Lol, a little premature to label him a "great recruiter". These guys are nice adds to get us going but we dont know if he can compete as a recruiter yet. These type guys should be our lowest end type recruits typically.
5/27/2017 5:11:24 PM
SOMEONE DIDN'T GET MY THOMAS DE THAEY REFERENCE.It was less about calling Keatts a great recruiter and more about calling Gottfried a shitty coach. Also, Keatts has a well earned reputation as a good recruiter and it's been proven that a coat rack could recruit well at NC State, so I am not the least bit worried about his crootin. These are guys he's bringing in to balance the roster and make up for all the personnel losses of the previous regime. Obviously it's unfair to judge Keatts by this recruiting class.]
5/27/2017 5:42:55 PM
5/27/2017 6:48:47 PM
Daniels is a great add. His 2pt% was probably a little bloated by Utah's scheme but look at these compsThink most of us are familiar with Bryce.Wouldn't rate them as back end adds. That's Freeman level (and Freeman has been valuable for us).
5/27/2017 7:15:59 PM
To me, landing Byrce is the most telling of Keatts thus far. Its a lot when a previous player follows their former coach to their new team. Not only does he show early signs of being a good recruiter but he could also be able to retain some of his good players instead of having them transfer at the end of the season.[Edited on May 29, 2017 at 11:23 AM. 5/29/2017 11:22:50 AM
I bet if Gottfried could land another job that Rowan would transfer and play for him instead of going "pro".[Edited on May 29, 2017 at 11:54 AM. Reason : "]
5/29/2017 11:54:30 AM
^ I like Gott and respected what he did for State sans past season but LOL.
5/29/2017 11:44:26 PM
Bryce is basically like landing a high 4* player, if not a 5* player. He'll have 2 years in the system, 1 proven year at the college level including playing in the tourney, and he plays well on both sides of the court. Yeah it'll suck not having him this year, as he'd likely be our best offensive player, but this is like landing Lacey several years ago. Except in this case he'll have 3 years to play after his RS year and he won't be as old. Worst case scenario he crushes it and goes pro after 1 year, best case he's really good and we get him 2-3 years.Daniels is something like a high 3*/low 4* player. He has shown potential, has experience, and gets a year in our system before having to play. He will be a solid addition that can give quality minutes. I'm not worried about Keatts and recruiting. Herb, Lowe, and Gott all landed top 10 recruiting classes, and I think Keatts can recruit with any of those guys. Give Keatts a couple of years to build relationships and get his system established and he'll be landing highly ranked HS kids. But come on, our roster is a bit of a mess with spacing and he got here a little late to land a lot of '17 kids(landing Batts was huge) that could contribute immediately. Adding graduate transfers to make the team competitive this year was a necessity and he's already filling out the depth chart with transfers to make up for Gott's attrition over the years. We had 3 guards on the roster for '18, we now have 5, and 3 of those guys will have 3 years of eligibility remaining. Great additions.
