when lost first came out I remember reading an interview with the writers and they were all like "no they're not dead and no the island is not purgatory" which I guess they kept to their word, but I was thinking there wasn't going to be any heaven/hell/purgatory since they were so adamant that it wasn't the caseoh well... initially I thought "omg when this show is over a part of me is going to die" but now I'm like "meh, not too bad"

I would have loved to have been in those Season 1 -3 writing meetings where they're just agreeing to put in WTF stuff and agree to tie it all together later.

I won't say it was awesome but i don't think it could've been better. The show was in an awkward place and that was pretty pleasing. Son i am dissapoint yet satisfyI'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message.

Matthew Fox just explained it completely in the first 2 minutes of Jimmy Kimmel show.

^^^ Yea, like Walt healing that bird. Now how in the fuck are they going to tie that shit into the final episode without it coming across as some super weak sauce fanboy pandering.[Edited on May 24, 2010 at 12:11 AM. Reason : s]

Thats the problem, they couldn't tie everything together. They lost (haha) control of this ship a long time ago. That finale just showed how little they had anything together.

^x9 I agree. For the past few weeks, I've been all worried about what happens if Locke escapes, but then that whole thing just kind of fell apart when Jack pushed him off the cliff. I thought there was going to be some big loop where MiB becomes Locke or Desmond in the other timeline or just something like that, but then it turned out the other timeline was not really related at all.[Edited on May 24, 2010 at 12:12 AM. 5/24/2010 12:12:38 AM
you guys demand 6 seasons of perfection and if they fucked up one time then the whole fucking thing stinks. I guess this kind of shit is why fanboys are so despised by normal society.
5/24/2010 12:12:43 AM
Sure. They story is convoluted, it is a TV show. The writers changed directions many times. There is some good stuff here though. It wasn't a totally coherent narrative from start to finish. However, how many times before have we seen a pop-culture show inspire debates about dead philosophers, free will, asynchronous time, the after life, and love? The number of levels in allegory in this show, at the very least, is laudable for at least asking the audience to think about something.
The whole alt-universe seems like nothing but an attempt to distract us from the fact they couldn't answer 1/2 the WTF stuff that happened on the island. They were banking that this major revelation of a question that wasn't posed until the beginning of Season 6 would take our eyes away from the real questions brought up in the first 5 seasons.
5/24/2010 12:12:45 AM
Maybe one day a cast member will come out and just say yeah we didn't know what the fuck we were doingface it, the show got big but kept feeding answers with more questions then ended up in a place where there was no answer. Now everyone will argue about it all. Or explain it on the DVD release = profit

Alright so they fucked up. Then why didn't you stop watching it at season 4.Or better yet, why don't you shut the fuck up and write a better series?
5/24/2010 12:14:50 AM
Can someone summarize what's happening on Kimmel? They won't switch over here. Thanks.

It was the battlestar ending. Turns out we wrote more mysteries than we can resolve by the end so turns out the answer is religion. Jesus is the reason for the season finale.

what was the significance of that shoe hanging in the bamboo? I feel like I should remember it, but dont.

Let's just say this - it was a fuck ton better than the ending of Sopranos.

I get what some people are saying about how they couldn't have made everyone happy, they couldn't have answered all the questions, etc. Yes, there's no way they could have answered everything and they shouldn't have. The problem I had with the ending was that it's like they realized that they weren't going to be able to answer ALL the questions, so they decided to come up with a way that they could end the show without answering ANY of the questions. We got nothing about what the island was, where it came from, who built it, what was magic about it, etc. What "defending" it entailed after the MIB/Smoke Monster was gone. I mean, you could sit here for months thinking up questions that didn't get answered. And it all boiled down to "everything doesn't matter because everyone eventually dies" I just don't feel like you can hide behind saying that everyone dies and goes to heaven and not just completely remove the importance of literally EVERYTHING that's happened for the previous 6 years. It's just the cop-out to top all cop-outs.

In total, I thought the series was great. I've never gotten so hooked on a bunch of characters and mysteries in a prime time TV show like I did for this one. I'll admit that I felt good when the connections were made in the finale and thought the way they presented it was very powerful. It just kind of sucks that so much was introduced that could have led to very cool stories but were sort of abandoned. Hopefully they don't plan to just milk any answers for a profit now.
5/24/2010 12:24:59 AM
The island was only a plot device to carry forward the story of human experience.

so, essentially, anybody has one of these pre-afterlife meetings with their loved ones after they die. Just so happens that this particular group crashed unharmed on a mysterious island with ghosts, polar bears, smoke monsters, time travel & robo-sharks. But, fuck it, that's not what this show is about, right? Right? Anybody?

I just don't know why you'd bother creating such an elaborate mythos for 6 years and then completely abandon that in the last 5 minutes of the show.
5/24/2010 12:31:59 AM
I liked it.
5/24/2010 12:32:05 AM
to fuck with the viewer, of course.I mean, aren't you lost?
5/24/2010 12:32:28 AM
The island was purgatory, and Dharma rhymes karma, and everyone had to work off their karma/sins before being allowed into a somewhat multicultural heaven. The end.
