just fyi even the zinc ones will melt if you get up about 780-800 deg F. best way to tell the difference is with some pliers. some zinkers mixed in isn't a big deal either way.

Hope you're not sticking them in the green egg

But really how are you getting the lead hot enough to a liquid form.

cast iron pot on a propane burner. one of those fish/turkey fryer things. melt it in there and get all the clips and other trash (dross) out. pour it in a muffin pan to make little round ingots of clean wheel weight alloy. then i have a small electric bottom-pour production pot that i can put the ingots in and pour into my bullet mold. then i swage the bullet to the proper size and squeeze a waxy lubricant into the lube groves with a lubrisizer (just a small press for sizing and lubing bullets).

Re-posting for the new page...

Need a new daily driver for the wifey. Looking for a ~2004-2007 Tahoe/Yukon; <130k miles with leather and 3rd row seats. No salt states or piston slap. 2wd or 4wd is fine.

Looking through all the normal channels but figured I'd ask to see if anybody around here knows of anything. Thanks!

I've got a 1970 Triumph Spitfire I am looking to sell. Always been garaged, family owned for like 15+ years.

White, good shape, random upgrades (No choke, alternator, etc). I'll get a pic on here eventually. Runs no problem.

I'll get more details on here eventually, but while it was on my mind, I'm posting.

Looking for $7k.

2007 Honda Accord EX-L V6 - Gold on Tan (pictures in my gallery)

Just over 68000 miles. It has all the bells and whistles, cruise control, 6 disc CD changer, heated seats, power seats, power (heated) mirrors, sliding sun roof, homelink on the rear view mirror.

It also has a best buy installed iSimple ipod chord, you can charge and play your ipod throught the car stereo, shows song info on the radio (it is the old connection but the adapter for the lightning works fine with it too). They will remove this for free if you don't want it.

It is the V6 with plenty of power for a daily driver. Tires have a good amount of life left.

The only 2 minor problems with it that I am aware of.
1. Minor scratches above the rear license plate from where my bike pedal scratched the paint (stupid bike rack)
2. I had new front brakes installed 6ish months ago, the installer (Tommy at the phillips 66 station on Western Blvd.) must have used some cheap pads. He tells me they are fine but the make a grinding sound in some breaking condition.

For those of you interested in purchasing, the KBB price for a "very good" (which this car would be except for the 2 items above) is $14,916. I will discount for the above mentioned items to $14,600, and the Wolf Web quick sale price is further discounted to $14,200.

If you are just reading all of this for the hell of it, should I fix the 2 itmes above before I list it on craigslist and the autotrader type sites? where do you guys have the best luck selling cars?

Thanks for any input.

If you're a USAA member, you can list it on their website for free and then only logged-in USAA members can view it and request info.

I sold my moms old car on Craigslist with pretty good results but it was a cheap beater, not much discernment needed for the buyer. I am anticipating this one will be a more involved process. So what is the website of choice for listing a car then? (I am not a USAA member)

I have listed all the cars I've sold over the years on Craigslist. The only one that sold via CL was a $1600 e30 and a $1700 Bronco. In every case I ran CL ads for 4-6 weeks before paying the $50 or so for an Autotrader ad. Every one of the $5k-$14.5k cars went to a person who found the car on Autotrader. The CL leads I got were worthless.

You should definitely list it on CL since it's a popular car that a lot of people are searching for, but I haven't seen any serious buyers from that place. Just a bunch of people who want something for [next to] nothing.

You might as well start with CL since it's free. I sold my old truck on craigslist and had a pretty good experience. Nice people ended up buying it.

I would suggest getting a throwaway email address for the listing though, you're going to get a lot of junk/scam emails. The majority of "legitimate" inquiries I got assumed I would drop my price %500-1000 (and they were mistaken).

wanted to let you guys know that Costco currently has a good deal on Mobil 1 synthetic. you get a box of six 1 qt bottles for $27. the wilmington location had 10w-30, 5w-30, and 5w-20. limit is 3 boxes.

i hate the 5 qt jugs because i have to add another 1 qt bottle to them for an oil change on my truck.

I've decided (for now at least) to part with my '99 XJ. I really want to hang on to it, but kid #2 is en route so I have to try to let go. Figured I'd post it up here before CL, especially since I'm in no hurry to sell it.

$3800

1999 Jeep Cherokee Classic
210,000 miles
4.0L Inline 6, AW4 auto transmission
235/75R15 (larger than stock) Michelin LTX M/S2 tires (they last seemingly forever)
Digital media stereo with integral flip-out iPod dock, bluetooth handfree, and bluetooth media streaming
Cloth interior
Power windows, locks and mirrors

It runs like a champ, as you might expect from an XJ. If you know anything about the 4.0/AW4 combo, you know it'll continue to run like a champ for a long time.

Purchased @ 116k miles, nothing but Mobil1 run since.

Work done over the past 7 years: all new fluids after right after purchase (rear diff, transmission, transfer case, coolant), oil pan gasket + rear main seal + valve cover gasket about 3 years ago, new alternator about 4 years ago. Other basic maintenance and consumables replaced as preventive measures.

Known issues: headliner is starting to bubble, busted seam in the passenger seat (easily repaired if you sew), right front window actuates slowly, power locks sometimes don't want to lock (unlock works fine).

If anyone comes across a running 350 for sale, throw me a heads-up. Even better if it has a good transmission attached (THM350, or preferably THM200-4R or 700R4 would be direct fit). Funds have finally appeared for project Malibu (location, not so much, but I'll figure it out...)

dammit, man, my Z06 is the cheapest Z06 on Autotrader at ANY distance, by $1000, and it is generating zero interest.

I had it on the for sale lot on base, and got 1 dude to test drive it (and then not buy). Had it listed on Craigslist for months with typical silly cheap offers and trade offers for various garbage, but no real interest.

Josh, raise the price. Anytime I have something for sale that gets into a slump like that, believe it or not raising the price usually wakes it back up.

Also I have a tried and true ebay vehicle sales strategy, if you want to get it some real exposure. It is a little more complicated, but works. Had no serious craigslist interest in my dodge for over a year, sold in two weeks on ebay.

Looking to sell my wheels.
They are aftermarket BBS LM replicas. 5x114.3
Two of the tires have less than 5k on them, two are brand new.
Fronts are 18x8 et35 w/ 245/45/18 Continental DWS
Rears are 18x9 et35 w/ 275/40/18 Continental DWS.

The tires were $840. TPMS sensors were $160. Wheels were $650. Putting it all together was $80.
All together was $1730.

3 wheels are absolutely perfect. One front had an incident with a curb during the blizzard, resulting in a 5'' scuff on the rim edge. No bends.

I would like $1300 for the set.

Thought I'd let you guys know they have studded 225/60/16 Firestone Winterfire tires on 5-lug steelies at the State Surplus Property warehouse on Chapel Hill Rd. for $20 each. Tires look new (seriously...99% tread) and I didn't see any cracking. Studs might be slightly worn. They only had about 25 of them (unless there's more in the back) so you better grab them quick if you want a set.

what should I look for in an old, <$1000 beater truck? prices seem to vary quite a bit for similar trucks - are these that volatile, or are some people just delusional?

What would you pay for this?

http://classifieds.wral.com/category/202/Trucks__SUVs/listings/1445829/1973_F100_FE_390.html

$2,500 sounds quite high, especially compared to CL.

a truly roadworthy truck (acceptable brakes, bearings, smooth engine, good transmission) will probably garner a $2500 price, regardless of age.

I would not pay that, however, for a fixer-upper
