Not guilty on all charges is a little hard to believe. While I'm inclined to scream guilty of the more serious charges, I can understand how I'd get to a not guilty there but I'd be hard pressed to vote not guilty on endangerment.

I'm also shocked that it's 'not guilty'. This means not a single person said to themselves "I don't know bro, some of what he did seems a little wrong."

Maybe because "I think this kid did something wrong" is a pretty shitty reason to vote to convict when the actual elements of the charged crimes weren't met? That's just not how it works, dude. I think he did some shit wrong, but I'm also hard pressed to look at what he was charged with, consider the self-defense statute at issue, look at the evidence presented, and come out with a "guilty" verdict. It was a shitty case to try, and they did it anyway. The outcome isn't surprising at all.

I was glad to see a level of justice in Arbery trial. It was open and shut murder. And I was happy to see Rittenhouse verdict as well. Both jury’s were given a good explanation of the laws that were being tried it seems. As far as laying low being an 18 year old kid I likely would not just lay low but fight to get my reputation back after being slandered and destroyed by so many including the President of the United States. Where I am now in life I probably would feel differently but at 18 with a much longer way to go I can understand wanting reputation back so you aren’t just Randy from South Park with people chasing you with pitchforks anytime you apply for college or a job. Nation knows his face.

TLR: I’m glad both jury’s did the right thing. Don’t blame Kyle for wanting his dignity back.

Younger man pulls around driver trying to back into driveway, this pisses backing driver off who chases, cuts off, then confronts younger driver, reaches in and assaults him, then gets shot. Shooter drives straight to police station to turn himself in, being held without bail. There is video of the shooting, if you really want to watch. The older guy seems to be the aggressor here, chased him down and confronted, does reach in and apparently assault him (it does look pretty weak on the video, although mug shot does shot scratch under eye, not sure if that’s what it’s from or not).

Not defending this guy shooting the dude, just would like to point out, neither is the Kyle Rittenhouse/2A crowd. I wonder why? Oh yeah, by the way his name is Jonathan Mejia. Had it been a white shooter and aggressor was maybe a Hispanic or a black man, you better believe they’d be all over this shit.

After California banned affirmative action this created a split in admissions standards between private and public unis, where some private unis still use race based policies.

If you assume similar applicant pools, it looks like affirmative actions helped white people more than any other group. Approximately 2/6 white students were preferentially treated over Asians vs 1/6 black and Latinos. A similar trend was found at Harvard recently where it showed white students heavily benefiting from affirmative action at the expense of Asians with smaller levels of benefits for black and Latino applicants. Seems reasonable to hypothesisize that for schools with lots of Asian applicants, a lot of white people were waived through over more qualified Asians, both as a percentage and in gross numbers, compared to black/Latino students

a not-guilty verdict doesn't necessarily mean that at all. Often it's because the state (or whatever entity) overcharged--the jury may well agree that some of what an accused person did seems a little wrong, and would convict without hesitation on the appropriate charges--but if those aren't the charges that have been brought, the jury rightly may reach a finding of not guilty.

...or sometimes because they just don't have the evidence to make it clear beyond a reasonable doubt. My one time being on jury duty (and being elected jury foreman), that was exactly what happened. The guy was a total POS and we all thought there were pretty good odds that he was guilty, but also (mostly) agreed that the state did not produce evidence of it beyond a reasonable doubt.
