So how do you install one of those? Anything you open in safari gets down sampled to 1024:http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ipad-3-benchmark-review,3156-5.html-I guess emailing it to yourself works. Ok that review is suspect. I just copied a wall paper from interfacelift and emailed it to myself and it's 2048 by 2048. [Edited on March 20, 2012 at 4:00 PM. Reason : s]

^^haha I emailed the author of those articles. Got a response within 15 minutes! They do appear to be correct. There seems to be a file size limit on images before they get downsized. For example those wall papers will display at 2048 by 2048 but anything much larger gets drastically downsized:http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7005/6475400109_05a01621d9_o.jpg10328 by 7760 image gets down scaled to 1291 by 970.

So who's got some yellow tint on their screen? I do on the top 3rd
3/21/2012 7:38:47 PM
Posting from the new iPad via voice dictation works pretty goodI don't know how to do punctuation though
3/21/2012 8:13:32 PM

Punctuation is easy, just say the name of the type of punctuation you want to use.

^ Gray screens are what really makes it stick out like a sore thumb...especially forums or sites like TWW with alternating gray patternsoh well, LCD is far from a perfect technology

Asphalt 6 for $0.99 is pretty fun. Reminds me of burn out.

yeah, white/gray screens are really bothering me and i feel like that's all i see nowgonna try to do a swap at the apple store and look at one before i leave
3/22/2012 3:45:58 PM
They will all have a problem.....I went through about 6 iPad 2's last year regarding similar issues.if it's relatively minor, you probably have a keeper.
3/22/2012 4:03:08 PM
I haven't noticed anything amiss with my screen, what's the problem people are having?Maybe I shouldn't ask if I already don't notice it.
3/22/2012 4:41:34 PM
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3810949?start=135&tstart=0It's pretty bad. Mine looks like a white to yellow gradient.

I used mine for a week thinking it would fade. Just got a replacement today. Still yellow on the right side. Going to give it a coupoe weeks before I swap it out again.
3/22/2012 11:17:10 PM
There's no glue between LCD and glass on iPad. The problem is with the way the filters and difusers are aligned when building an LCD. If they are slightly misaligned, twisted, or compressed it causes a shift in hue.
3/23/2012 1:45:26 AM
Well backing up to the iCloud makes it that much easier to perform a restore so I just walk in, swap it out, and login and it's identical. Going to swap out for #3 in a week.

What model do most of you get?? 16/32/64?? I don't plan on storing any music (still mainly use my classic ipod), will probably take a decent amount of pictures, but nothing crazy, and will probably put a few books on there. But with using icloud, whats the point in getting the most storage?? I'll probably get the 32 just to be safe, but I'm trying to find the purpose in getting the 64.
3/27/2012 2:37:51 PM
i have the 32GB Wi-Fi only model. I previously had a 64GB iPod Touch, which barely held all my music. but then I got a 32GB iPhone and used iCloud/iMatch, and it's been more than enough. I also stream a lot from hulu plus/hbogo, so i rarely have a ton of video. I could have probably gotten by with 16GB, but I wanted a bit of a buffer.
3/27/2012 2:45:04 PM
i posted it in the iPhone thread but im still waiting for them to fix that explicit/clean fuck up in iTunes Match. shit is getting annoying.
3/27/2012 4:02:27 PM
ok first question....do they have the new iPads pretty much available any where I go now (BestBuy, Apple Store, Verizon, etc.)? I'd like to be able to just walk in, sign up for 4G service and walk out with the iPad.second, i may be in a situation soon where I will not have a PC at home. I have an iPhone 4S, Apple TV and soon a new iPad. All of my music, pictures and movies are on an external hard drive. is there anyway that I can access my data on the external hard drive through home share with out a PC?
3/27/2012 4:39:07 PM
I got the 64GB version. I had a 32 GB 1st gen and it was constantly full. Mostly with apps. Heck 3 of the apps I've already put on the 3rd Gen are 1.5GB + a piece. And with this new screen, the apps are only going to get bigger in the future. I've got less than two pages of apps and already am at over 8GB full. I suppose I could delete them when I'm done, but I really don't like having to pick which app I don't use anymore when I want to install a new one. I originally got the 32GB version this time, but I figured that if it was worth the extra $100 to get another 16GB, it was worth another $100 to add another 32 on top of that. I never understood that pricing system.-------^You can sign up for the cellular service from the iPad itself. No in-store sign up required. And no, you can't access a USB drive directly from the iPad.]
3/27/2012 4:40:56 PM
Just got 16 gig. I don't put media on it and I can't imagine filling it up with 16 GBs of apps. All the big games are just shitty versions of console/PC games so I try them once and never pick them up again. All the best games are under 100MB. I use it mostly for media/blog consumption so space isn't an issue.
3/27/2012 4:43:06 PM
^^ cool thanks. i did't know that about signing up for service directly form the iPad. that makes it simple. So do stores mostly carry stock of these now?also, I'm aware that I can't read an External USB HD directly form the iPad. What I was asking is if there is a way to access the data on the external HD via some other method. can i hook it directly to the Apple TV for example? doesn't it have a USB interface?
3/27/2012 4:47:30 PM
You're pushing the limits of what toys can do. Get a real computer.
3/27/2012 4:50:48 PM
hahaha.....i do have one but i may have to relocate for a new job soon in which case my wife is going to stay in raleigh for a couple months. we have one family laptop that we currently use for itunes and home sharing. more then likely i would leave her the laptop and take the ipad and apple tv. just trying to figure out a way to play music through the apple tv with out having to buy a computer.
3/27/2012 4:54:27 PM
Jailbreak the AppleTV and put XBMC on it.
3/27/2012 4:56:01 PM
Doesn't the atv support itunes match? If so, he could just sign up for the service, upload his music to the cloud and have it easily accessible on both the ipad & atv.

If you have good internet at both locations you could try splash top streamer to stream from your home of with the external hooked up to your iPad then use AirPlay to display on a tv if you want. I've done it before and the quality wasn't terrible. Obviously not a long term fix though.
3/28/2012 5:40:00 PM
You could also get a NAS and use the iPad to play the files from the NAS through the Apple TV.Or you could skip the AppleTV altogether, and get one of those media player/hard drive combos.
3/28/2012 10:18:15 PM
I mean, you can buy fully functional nettop PCs for around a hundred bucks. There's no excuse to not have a computer unless you just don't want one.

Anyone else notice how long it takes to charge this thing? I drained the battery and plugged it in around noon. I'm at 68% at 6pm. A little more than 10%/hour. That's ridiculous.Actually:http://www.zdnet.com/blog/apple/the-ipad-3s-battery-algorithm-is-busted-heres-why/12642
3/29/2012 6:04:48 PM
I noticed that mine was taking forever to charge, but I was using a cheapass random iPhone cable (with the iPad3 AC adapter). I would leave it charging overnight and it would only be ~70% charged the next morning. I switched to the official Apple cable and it seems to be charging much faster now. An overnight charge went to 100% last night. I'm still not sure I buy into the whole overcharging thing. I suppose anything's possible, but I would tend to lead towards that being more typical FUD and senseless linkbaiting that seems to be prevalent every time a new Apple product is released. I have absolutely no concern about leaving mine charging for extended periods of time.[Edited on March 29, 2012 at 6:36 PM. Reason : actually, fuck being nice. Anyone that believes that stupid shit is an idiot.]
3/29/2012 6:35:22 PM
I don't really either it was just interesting Apple actually said if you charge it once it's past 100% you may harm the longevity of the battery. Everyone does that when they plug devices in over night.
3/29/2012 6:41:24 PM
3/29/2012 7:07:41 PM
It takes longer to charge, because it has 2x the battery capacitor vs. the old iPad (25Wh vs 45).And USB is only specced at 2.5w but with the right chargers, it'll charge at 10w.So, yes, charge time is MUCH longer.
