Anyone got experience with a triumph sprint st? They have crap resale (yay used) and seem to have most of the old man features i'm looking for.
1/10/2012 7:18:29 PM
They have crap resale because they're aimed towards geezers but aren't Hondas, FJRs, Harleys, or BMWs.Yet they shouldn't, because they're a firkin' Speed Triple with a fairing and hard luggage. SHEESH I WANT ONE.

Normally, people buy riding gear because they own a motorcycle. I think I need to buy a motorcycle for my riding gear:http://udreplicas.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=61[Edited on January 12, 2012 at 1:44 AM. Reason : .]

haha, that's kinda me. i have a brand new set of a-stars leathers, and still have my race boots and gloves, and a nice Shoei full-face helmet. The gloves are the only thing I routinely wear on the BMW....but I'm thinking about picking up this 636. http://okaloosa.craigslist.org/mcy/2785856859.html'03, asking $2000. I will only be in the Raleigh area for another week or 2 at the most then up to asheville, but want to check it out with a buddy of mine to find new places for him to ride.

suggestions on a place that has 8MM to 10MM adapters? i ordered the wrong size with replacement mirrors and i'd rather get them locally than wait 2 weeks to get them from hong kong

Anyone here ever use a bluetooth communication system while riding?
2/13/2012 1:05:29 AM
I have one that I have used in the past, but I never found enough use for it to keep it. The number of calls I receive on the bike is pretty slim. The number I'd care to answer while riding is next to none. It worked well for making and receiving calls, I just got tired of messing with the receiver module and charging it and all that jazz for essentially no benefit.
2/13/2012 7:11:46 AM
Did you ever use it to communicate to someone riding on the back or with another motorcyclist? If I'm riding, a phone can can likely wait (imo). I ask because I'm debating getting one for me and the wife. So many reviews out there and while I don't care to spend $texas on a setup, I don't want to piss money away on less than adequate either... :/ Seems to be a fine line though the technology appears to be improving.[Edited on February 13, 2012 at 7:32 AM. Never did bike-to-bike, but the voice quality was acceptable enough with bluetooth phone that I see no reason it wouldn't be adequate.

Count me as another member of the club. Picked up an '08 BMW R1200R. I had originally arranged to pick up the bike yesterday when the weather was awesome, but something came up and I had to go out to Charlotte (from Raleigh) today. Got caught in a small drizzle on the way back, but man, I was too pumped up to care. Bike fits like a glove.
2/27/2012 7:56:50 PM
^ is it just me or does that rear tire look like it needs some air? So I'm a little bitch and I finally ordered some heated gloves the other day. Even with water-proof, wind-proof, ginormous awkward winter gloves my fingers get so cold they hurt, and that's not my idea of fun. Having to deal with the wiring will be worth it if they work.
2/27/2012 9:59:29 PM
I think it's the lighting... Just before I left, I checked tire pressures to 32 front and 36 rear at 50*F cold. I will check again when I get home to make sure I didn't lose pressure. Tires have about 4k miles left on them, in which case i'll probably throw on some Pilot Road (either 2 or 3, haven't decided yet) on. I was wearing snow boarding gloves (~$10 on sale at target around x-mas time) and the heated grips were amazing. Glove kept my hands dry and windproof. Though my knuckles were a bit cold, the rest of my hands (fingers/palms) were quite toasty Got ~45mpg on the way back home.[Edited on February 27, 2012 at 10:34 PM. Reason : .]

get AAA plus or premium, whatever covers towing bikes.it will be worth it.
2/28/2012 1:37:54 PM
If the tire still has a fair amount of life left, have someone pop it off and patch it from the inside. A good vulcanized patch will last the lifetime of the tire.
2/28/2012 2:37:53 PM
Where do you guys buy your tires from?I've found http://www.bikebandit.com/
2/28/2012 10:54:38 PM
Sometimes it's cheaper to buy online, sometimes a local store such as cycle gear will have a sale on popular tires, which, combined with the mounting discount, will be cheaper than online. On the Internetz, I got good deals from RevZilla and Motorcycle Superstore before.
2/29/2012 12:20:56 AM
The cheapest that I've found online most of the time is Jake Wilson. Sportbike Track Gear also has some good deals. Both offer free shipping, and there are several guys on NCS that will change tires for $10-20 apiece. There's a guy right up the road from me that has done a couple sets on my bikes, and he charges $10 each if you bring him the wheels already off the bike. He does a very good job balancing them and has always been flexible about being available on weekends or at night after work.
3/1/2012 11:46:49 AM
Cool deal guys. Thanks. It was an awesome day to ride today. Just finished washing the BMW. What a load of work that was trying to get dirt out of some tight areas. Got the sport windscreen installed. Ahh. It's been a great day.
3/1/2012 5:19:29 PM
depending on the type of rubber you get, a track event will offer great tires at LOW prices with a free mount/balance if the wheels are off. A set of dunlop Q2's new or race take offs should last a long time and be between 250 and 50 for the set
3/2/2012 8:11:45 AM
anyone here ever ridden an RC8R? - preferably on track
3/7/2012 7:42:34 PM
going to ride the blue ridge parkway and the devils staircase(NC 80) on saturday. 0% chance of rain and high of 59. so siked
3/8/2012 10:15:02 PM
^ I'm jealous Planning on going to Blue Ridge with my dad in the Spring and possibly TotD with my dad. I've been twice in cars, never on a motorcycle and my father has never been. I hope having acquired my new set of wheels will bring us closer. One can hope right?

Rust formed in my gas tank over the winter.Got the tank off...best way to fix it is to drain it and then......????
3/12/2012 7:41:42 PM
fill with kerosene and buck shot/bb's and shake the shit out of it til it comes out clean. grass will take about 3 years to grow back where you pour out the kerosene
3/12/2012 7:49:35 PM
how many bbs? like...100?
3/12/2012 8:12:36 PM
Met my nemesis on the highway today. The grocery store plastic bag. Fortunately, I ducked and it flew over my head
3/12/2012 8:19:01 PM
Yeah, pour a box of steel BB's or nuts and bolts in there(you can use a magnet on a stick to get them out, very important.) I usually pour in a bottle of phosphoric acid(advance sells it in the paint isle, I think this is it: http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_De-Rust-Metal-Conditioner-Rust-Preventer-Purple-Power_7100013-P_N3281A_T|GRP2050___ or muriatic acid or vinegar mixed with salt...whatever I have handy. If it is super rusty I will jack up my car, strap the tank to the wheel. Put it in gear and let it spin. This is either stupidly dangerous or genius, depending on your perspective.Once it looks clean, dump the acid and bb's, rinse with water and immediately fill it with gas to the top or at least splash some diesel around to prevent rust...it will rust in minutes. Also, it's a good idea to take the petcock out and make a little metal plate to cover the hole. Just seal it in place with rtv sealant or something.[Edited on March 12, 2012 at 8:30 PM. Reason : .]

Road trip last weekend was outstanding. Took NC 80 from Marion to BRP to Little Switzerland, then went back down on NC 226A which has tons of switchbacks.

I need something to make my backpack reflective at night. I'm looking for a monetarily cheap product. I know of relective tape, but I want something more durable/sturdy/greater surface area. My options are to either get a reflective cover or a whole another backpack. So far, I've found this:http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=25108If I get another backpack, I want to make sure it'll fit my helmet, but most are easily twice the price. So before I hit "add to cart", are there any others I should consider fellow riders?[Edited on March 12, 2012 at 9:12 PM. Reason : .]
