This whole anti-hero thing has become way too Watchmen-ish.

And the special effects are getting really disappointing...especially the falling billboard.

Yep that's it...watchmen style...except a movie is limited in the length of time it can show the doubt in its characters before the moment where it has to have them having an epiphany and finding the self confidence within themselves or the right mentor or girlfriend figure to place faith In them. Tv shows can take forever to do this or use up all their money...whichever comes first...

Tonight's ep started out really bothering me because of the cliche of having a flashback ep in the final season. But, the second half of it did a 180 for me. I really enjoyed it, and without giving out any spoilers, I'm pretty sure what happened in the very last scene was a first for the series.

I too thought it was a great episode. I was worried it was a flashback episode, but the writers took a hint and flipped it into one of the best episodes. If the writing can keep going this strong, we are up for a great finale.

I didn't like the interview with Oliver, he did well with it but it was not well written. Rest of the episode was great though.

Glad to see Spike back in action.

Yeah... the interview was ok..

I remember thinking as that scene opened that it would have to be an epic speech to smooth over the shitstorm he brought on himself.

Instead he was like, I'm a hero bitches... WHAT!

i am unashamed to admit that in the last 5 minutes, i was sitting alone on the couch, fist pumping like a fucking guido. damn glad i decided to pick back up watching this season. that ep alone made the last 8 seasons worth it

He didn't shoot anyone, just fired a shot off into the air to get everyone's attention. On another note, what was the deal with him "dying" and then coming back to life after being buried? What's the deal with blue kryptonite again?

oh okay, i thought the dude in front of him was falling from getting shot.

When the rest of the crazy folks (and their blue kryptonite bodies) left his grave he was able to heal himself. Blue kryptonite makes him lose all his powers.

So why did he still heal and get his powers back when the blue kryptonite fire fell on him at the end and all the townsfolk were still around?

he didn't, his back was all fucked up. it's just that he was still a little bit impervious that it didn't kill him, so everyone was in awe and backed off so he could heal.

yeah... but if blue kryptonite can make him lose his powers, getting soaked in flaming blue kryptonite should kill him...

I know where they were going with it, but it still doesn't make sense

I guess the blue kryptonite was only in the water, not the actual dirt. When they walked away after burying him I suppose he wasn't fully dead yet and was able to heal.

So how come when the fire fell on him and what not the blue kryptonite water inside the people weren't suppressing his powers? He was just as close to them then as he was when him and Lois tried to sneak out. Shit I'd think that the second they were found out he could have at least grabbed Lois and ran like 10 feet away until he got his powers back then just hit super speed. Oh well.

That's why his back was still burnt for a while until Lois yelled at them all to back away. Once they did, he healed up.

I guess when they were trapped together in the building, there were people right outside the building so that even if he had his powers while in the building, the second he started speeding through the town he would've de-powered.

(I mean, I agree with you it's very weird, just trying to frame it in a way that maybe it'll make sense)

So lets take bets on the finale

Will Clark be shown in costume? Getting ready to put the suit on? None of these?

They've already shown the costume.. I'm betting the last scene will be him flying around the daily planet in it.

I'm thinking it will show him flying around the Earth like it does at the end of every Superman movie, possibly while playing the Superman music.

I hope the finale is just called "Superman" as that would be a fitting title for the series finale. Although they initially said "no tights, no flights" I bet they abandon that rule in the end.

I doubt the whole ep will have him flying around in costume saving people, but I bet they'll have him do his thing for maybe the last ten minutes. Then it will end with him either standing in costume next to the American flag or a close up of him flying around while playing the infamous Superman tune.

Any thoughts on who should be cast for the new Superman movie? There was a poll on EW.com:

http://popwatch.ew.com/2010/10/08/vote-for-the-new-superman/

Tom Welling got 57% of the votes cast far exceeding the next closest, which was Matt Bomer (USA's White Collar) with only 13%.

Honestly I don't think Welling would do a bad job. He's definitely old enough now and he's been playing Clark Kent for a while now. The only thing about the Clark Kent he plays though is that he isn't dorky at all. If you look at the Clark Kent that Christopher Reeve played in the movies, he was a complete nerd.

It's really not a difficult concept: Blue Kryptonite = No Powers.

The people were full of blue kryptonite from drinking the water for 20+ years so when they are around him, he can't operate. Like in the end of the last episode of last season where he is stabbed with blue kryptonite--he was basically dead. Lois pulled it out, he healed. As the people moved away from him, he began getting his strength back after the blue flame fell. It wasn't enough to kill him, but it fucked up his back while all the people were standing there.

I completely understand what they were going for, it just doesn't seem realistic..

If being drenched in fire is enough to kill a regular person, it should be enough to kill a powerless clark

If you want to argue he still had remnants of power left, fine... but he was surrounded by villagers, and I'm assuming the fire itself had blue kryptonite in it. I know what they were going for, but it just didn't make sense.

This show is stupid

I'm pretty sure that what toemoss is trying to say is that it's fine if the show is ridiculous just as long as it pertains to the already established rules of it's own universe. An alien who looks just like a human but can fly and lift up cars is kinda silly in our universe, but in the universe laid out by the Superman series, it's perfectly fine. Likewise, it has been already established that blue kryptonite essentially makes Clark human. The fire had blue kryptonite. By the rules that Smallville has established for how Clark reacts to it, he should have been killed just as much as a regular human would.

A regular person wouldn't die immediately from fire falling on them either. It would have been a slow death. Had it fallen on Lois, she wouldn't have died immediately, just like someone burning to death doesn't.

Considering he just survived a 30 story fall with a blue kryptonite dagger through his chest, I don't think a fire would've killed him outright.

ok, fair enough...

In other news, the latest one was perhaps the worst episode ever. Who the fuck makes a tape to their kid saying "even though I'm going to leave a huuuuuge hole in your life when I die, try and love a guy anyways"

I guess it was just setting shit up for clark to talk to Jor El (again....) and get a little pat on the back and say it's ok that he's fucking shit up, and basically just being a huge pussy...

Way too many TV characters who have died.
