Why aren't we giving this guy a scholarship? Saving them for existent commits?
5/20/2016 1:18:49 PM
Because we didn't have to?
5/20/2016 1:37:56 PM
yeah, basically because we don't have to...just like any other walk on. may end up as one of those situations where once the roster is finalized and we have extra scholarships we reward some walk ons with a scholarship...think they did that with Staats, right?

Wow, we went from no one wants to come here to getting preferred walkons in a week, that escalated quickly.
5/20/2016 8:22:34 PM
^you realize the irony of that statement right ?

CARDIAC PACKBeing a State fan is a 12-month-a-year commitment to disappointment, but we all know how abusive relationships go on...
5/21/2016 9:21:36 AM
I said Fartin twins earlier.
5/22/2016 5:13:53 PM
antwan walker looks like he'll be spending a year in prep school next year. he reclassified to 2016 and we offered him...but i guess his academics weren't in order/
5/23/2016 12:43:06 PM
Yeah think the main 2 guys we're recruiting are Gibson Johnson(JUCO PF) and Markell Johnson(4* PG). Markell might still end up in the 2017 class, but would be an ideal pick-up for us.
5/23/2016 2:00:06 PM
...and Marques Johnson.
5/24/2016 1:43:19 PM
but for real, are we really recruiting a guy named marques johnson and if so who is he?
5/24/2016 3:01:31 PM
he's the 3rd Fartin triplet, I assume
5/24/2016 3:12:24 PM
^^ No, just Markell Johnson, as mentioned above.
5/24/2016 3:23:48 PM
^haha, that's what i figured.
5/24/2016 3:34:49 PM
^^^^ Marques was definitely about to bounce the ball off his foot out of bounds in that pic.
5/24/2016 4:04:37 PM
The only 5 star recruit I've seen that could barely dribble with his head up.
5/24/2016 4:58:31 PM
the Farnold and Marques days were fire.
5/24/2016 4:58:39 PM
I never figured out how recruiting rankings are still so inaccurate. In the old days it was 18 yo coming in to compete against laettner and shaq. Understandable it's tough to know how they'd fair. Now they're competing again't only freshman phenoms who they probably played against on the aau circuit and 4 year player like Kennedy meeks.Seems like a pretty easy job. If you can't shoot you probably aren't gonna be good. If you look like shit on your mixtape (Tyler lewis) you probably won't be good. If you look like the moves you are doing aren't allowed in college and wouldn't work anyway (ryan harrow) you probably won't be good. Dennis Smith is a guy that leaps off his mix tape. Guy really looks like westbrook just hope his knee injury didn't rob him of too much athleticism. I don't usually buy the one and done hype but he looks lIke a lottery pick barring a broken jumper or injury
5/24/2016 5:19:29 PM
Smith has posted some videos of him doing plenty of nice dunks, so I'd expect he'll be ready to go, should be 100% recovered by then barring any setbacks. Usually when they "potential lottery pick", you're going to be a really good, legit 5* player. Then when you get to the backside of the 5*'s, you'll get the "potential one-and-dones", those are your players that could make an impact their first year or just end up being solid players. But when looking at the top 25 players, it really differs based on the quality of the class and the reasoning behind the ranking. Look at the 2015 class. You had most players committed, end of the season Thornton was rated a 5* #5 PG in the 2016 class. He reclassifies to the 2015 class late, and ends up the #1 PG in the class. Was he really a top 10 overall player and #1 PG in the class? Or was it just the hype-machine trying to add some more intrigue to the end of the recruiting season? I mean look at Maverick Rowan, he was a 5* in the 2016 class, he reclassifies to 2015, and he drops to a 4*. Biggest difference? Duke desperately needed a PG so they went all-in on him. Rowan had NC State and Louisville fighting for his services.
5/24/2016 10:08:06 PM
hell, i saw some scout or rivals guy say that Yurtseven was a 4* but only because they hadn't watched complete game film on him yet...and expected him to move up to 5* once doing so. i mean, they haven't even seen him play an entire game and are projecting him as a 4, probably a 5*
5/25/2016 7:29:25 AM
Evan Daniels said he's the #1 center in the class.
5/25/2016 7:38:03 AM
^^Yeah that's the problem when you have guys trying to weigh in on players they haven't seen. Why even offer up a rating unless you've seen the guy play?Football is notoriously bad about it, banking too much on unconfirmed offers the kids say they have and the stats the kids put up. I mean remember Brandon Barnes? He was suppose to be a 5* ATH and huge impact recruit his Junior year in HS because Pete Carroll visited him to watch him play and supposedly offered and rumors were he told him "you could be the next Reggie Bush". They made him a 5* all-purpose RB and the kid wasn't even the starting RB as a Senior in HS. I think Evan Daniels is fairly credible, but I think he's one of the few(if not the only) one(s) saying that. I think he'll definitely be an impact guy, and will be interesting seeing him go up against other 5* centers from this class in Bolden and Bradley.
5/25/2016 9:49:07 AM
Evan Daniels is Scout, right? It must've been the Rivals guy then. He was saying that he's heard great things about Yurtseven and seen highlight reels but hasn't had full game tape to breakdown yet. That just strikes me as funny.

Nevada is gonna STINK IT UP w the Fartins
5/25/2016 4:27:38 PM
lol @ Nevada. Have fun. Going from the Wolfpack to the Wolf Pack. Living it up in beautiful Reno and playing in the illustrious Mountain West Conference.
5/25/2016 4:46:02 PM
Just glad they didn't end up at ECU. I can still root for them now.
5/26/2016 10:16:27 AM
Rowan was a 5 star?!?!?! I'm shocked i would have guessed 3* at best. That one makes zero sense. Guy shot 36% fg and couldn't do anything elseWhy would they leave nc state for nevada?! Reno is a shit hole. That is just ridiculous they had a chance to play on a good team next year. Maybe they are getting paid? Realized they had no nba potential and decided to cash in[Edited on May 26, 2016 at 7:48 PM. Reason : A]
5/26/2016 7:42:13 PM
Paid to shave points for the Wolf Pack? That could theoretically be really interesting. Like if they got busted, even the confidential informants wouldn't be 100% sure if they paid Cody or Caleb. And maybe they pay one and the other throws a game. Vice versa. Brilliant. Make a movie.[Edited on May 26, 2016 at 8:34 PM. Reason : .]
5/26/2016 8:09:07 PM
Well Rowan age-wise should have been in the 2016 class, so he'd have been one of the oldest people in the class in 2017 and the kid was a scoring machine in HS. Obviously it was early, so he might have slid to a high 4* had he been in HS this year, but I mean the guy started most of the season in the ACC and he had some pretty good games. I imagine he'd have put up good stats if he was still in HS.I've also heard rumors that Rowan is up to 6'8, 230lbs, so that'll be interesting to see how it effects his game.

Gibson Johnson just committed to Hawaii. can't blame him one bit, but I thought he would have made a nice addition.
5/26/2016 10:34:06 PM
damn they aren't even post season eligible
5/26/2016 10:48:12 PM
Sorry, meant Rowan should have been in the 2015 class and would have been old for his age.Gibson Johnson was suppose to visit this weekend, so much for that. Really need Yurtseven to be eligible now.Well looks like we actually cancelled his trip and let him know he didn't have a spot, so no brainer he goes to Hawaii.[Edited on May 26, 2016 at 10:51 PM. 5/26/2016 10:49:02 PM
really don't get why we wouldn't take him if he wanted to come (which is what it sounds like). just not buying the argument that his presence would cause a lot of harm to recruiting bigs in the '17 class.
5/26/2016 10:55:03 PM
5/26/2016 11:14:25 PM
^Old for his class or age-group if that makes you feel better.^^Gibson Johnson was really a back-up in case we missed on Hicks and Yurtseven but with the eligibility questions, there was speculation we'd add a 3rd. Johnson would come next year and likely not play much if the Yurtseven is cleared. Then in '17 you'd, potentially, have a frontcourt of: Yurtseven, Abu, Freeman, Hicks, and Johnson. That is a lot of bodies when you're trying to recruit top players, and think our staff feels good about some of the guys we're recruiting. Obviously there is speculation that Yurtseven and Abu will be gone, but it's not guaranteed that either go pro next year. Makes it hard to recruit fr the '17 class with that many scholarships accounted for, but hopefully big years from Yurtseven and Abu will only help with recruiting.
5/27/2016 8:40:55 AM
[Rowan]
5/27/2016 9:21:04 AM
Rowan was a 4 star, and face obviously didn't watch many games with that scalding hot take on his play.
5/27/2016 9:39:18 AM
5/27/2016 9:46:16 AM
^^lol was gonna post the same thing.and LudaChris is right in that, after landing Yurt7 and getting Abu back, we probably didn't make Johnson a priority. but for depth's sake in '17 it would be nice to land a transfer who would sit out this year and be ready to go in '17 with Abu and Yurt7 gone in all likelihood. And it probably does make it hard(er) to recruit bigs for '17 with their future in the air...but part of why we got DSJ this year is because the staff was fairly certain that Cat would be gone this year. So it can work out if you have an idea of what those guys are gonna do.
5/27/2016 10:38:58 AM
So it looks like Malik Newman is withdrawing from the draft but looking to transfer from MSU.Don't think we have any inroads with him, but it would be hilarious to find out this is the Malik that Goodman meant.
5/27/2016 11:09:09 AM
goodman broke the news about malik newman toohttps://twitter.com/GoodmanESPN/status/735425538785968129?ref_src=twsrc^tfw
5/27/2016 11:11:56 AM
NC Mississippi State forward Abdul Malik Newman -Abu told ESPN he is “seriously considering transferring or hiring an agent.”
5/27/2016 11:16:13 AM
isn't malik newman that guy that mark thomas was predicting (on twitter) would commit to state and then he was wrong and everybody realize how idiotic mark thomas is?also, ^^^ i realize goodman is a shithead and dick and all that...but just because Abu came back does not mean that he was wrong about Abu. he has said Abu is the one that told him that. so i have no real reason to think he was making that up. the following day goodman was on the Mike Maniscalco morning show and said that he thought Abu would be back, but that transferring and going pro were on the table.[Edited on May 27, 2016 at 12:27 PM. 5/27/2016 12:26:21 PM
Seems like it was down to us and MSU for Newman. That's gotta help? Plus we only really have 3 guards on the team, and Smith is almost definitely a one-year rental.IIRC, Newman was once projected as a top-10 pick in the 2016 draft. Last I saw, he was a projected 2nd round pick next year. Pretty hard fall, but the NBA doesn't have much use for 6'3 shooting guards.
5/27/2016 12:46:44 PM
5/27/2016 12:51:37 PM
what do you expect him to say? i have no idea what abu's true intentions were, but i also don't think Goodman was making shit up.I like Abu. I don't really have a strong opinion of Goodman other than sometimes he can be a dick on twitter. But I have no real reason to believe Goodman was just making that up.
