Nice, glad to finally get on the board after almost 3 days!! For real though, I'm reserving most of my celebration until he is clears to play

i'm sure the NCAA will take an in depth look...but if he hasn't touched the money, then i don't see why he wouldn't be #clears. just depends how quickly the NCAA moves on it. hopefully him committing now will get the ball rolling on it.

He seems to be doing the right things in terms of committing early enough to get an LOI in. Hopefully the staff follows up and makes sure he gets all the garbage the NCAA needs to see in before the year starts - it's a lot of stupid details but the staff is usually pretty good about that stuff.Under normal circumstances I don't think this is a miss the full year Enes Kanter type deal, but when you add NC State Shit in...
5/16/2016 12:59:34 PM
This is much less Kanter(he actually received cash and took it) and more of a Domantas Sabonis deal. He was cleared.

Even if he is cleared, it is unbelievably rare for a 17 year old 7 footer to dominate at the college level. Although this is a huge get for Gott, I'd like to see him keep Abu and add another PG/wing before I'm optimistic about next season.

5/16/2016 1:48:36 PM
need to focus on the 5 Star recruit Malik-Abu next.
5/16/2016 1:52:28 PM
So, does anybody know what kind of game this guy has. Like can he shoot, or is he more of a back to the basket post up center? Our biggest need right now is a big who can play the high post, make a 17 foot jump shot, and pass it to the low post. Hopefully either this guy can do it, or Malik is taking 1000 jump shots/day this summer.[Edited on May 16, 2016 at 1:53 PM. Reason : 1]
5/16/2016 1:53:20 PM
Well, of his 46 shots the other day, supposedly he made like 5 threes..
5/16/2016 1:56:57 PM
^dude will score 90/game...don't care how he gets it.
5/16/2016 1:58:11 PM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3gfbHSbNh0Looks to have a softer shooting touch than any of the bigs on our team now although that's not saying much in and of itself.Favorite part of the vid is "struggles to keep the ball in front in PnR". Yep, he will fit right in here. [Edited on May 16, 2016 at 2:07 PM. Reason : d]

Think the optimism he is cleared stems from: 1. He never signed a contract. 2. He never took the money from the fund the team started for him without his permission. 3. His family never took the money from the fund. If those 3 things are true, he'll be cleared. So far he's swearing that those 3 are true, and if so, not sure how the NCAA doesn't let him play. Not his fault the team is trying to do shady shit to screw him over and keep him there.

^adding a transfer to the frontcourt who'd sit this year (but have experience, as opposed to a true freshman) would probably be the best thing looking toward 2017
5/16/2016 3:19:25 PM
5/16/2016 3:35:44 PM
Yeah, I'd take a current HS senior too, but I doubt there's really anyone left out there that's worth a damn unless there's someone that has become eligible super late or a late decommit who still hasn't decided. Supposedly Gibson Johnson is still visiting and some on PP are acting like we wouldn't/shouldn't take him so we have room to recruit high-caliber 2017 bigs, but I'd really like to get him. He's a 6'8" JUCO kid who seems to shoot well, would be eligible immediately to play the next two seasons and give us insurance against Yurtseven clearinghouse issues. Also can't imagine a hypothetical returning crop of him, Hicks, and Freeman scaring off a lot of top tier recruits in the 2017 class.
5/16/2016 3:39:32 PM
I haven't heard that Freeman is redshirting. If Abu comes back, 5 guys (Omer, Hicks, Freeman, Abu, Anya) is already a lot for two spots. If we can get a good transfer that will sit out this year, then that's great but I'd say a PG or a wing is much more important for next season.
5/16/2016 3:50:34 PM
I don't think it's been announced that Freeman is redshirting, but it sounds like a definite possibility, especially given our recruiting. Assuming he doesn't, we would have 4-5 guys (Henderson, Rowan, Dorn, Kirk, Hicks) for the two wing spots and 4-5 (Anya, Freeman, Abu,, Yurtseven, Hicks) for the two frontcourt spots. I'd definitely rather have an extra guy in the frontcourt than at the wing at this point given the uncertainty around Abu (draft/transfer), Freeman (return from injury), Anya (draftlol/conditioning), AND Yurtseven (eligibility) along with the part where those guys tend to be in more foul trouble, but maybe that's just me. Definitely wouldn't mind having more bodies around, though, and PP has some rumors that we might take this Spencer Newman kid from Mobile, Alabama as either a walk-on or after offering a late scholarship. Two star combo guard (although sounds more like a SG) who is supposedly a sharpshooter.

5/16/2016 4:02:21 PM
If Freeman doesn't redshirt, we might lose 6 players next off season, plus a random transfer that tends to happen. I guess we can just become a Kentucky/Duke and reload with one and dones..

Earl grinding in the paint right now. Gotta respect the effort if nothing else.

Turkish dude isn't one and done. Watch his tape. He's a finesse guy. He won't do much as a freshman.Dude is 6'11 1/2" with a 7' 0.75" wingspan. That's nothing spectacular.[Edited on May 16, 2016 at 5:29 PM. Reason : Anye would get drafted higher than him.]
5/16/2016 5:28:52 PM
I agree we should keep our expectations in the basement so we wont be disappoint.
5/16/2016 5:34:17 PM
^^ every draft place already has him a lottery pick in 2017. He's OAD
5/16/2016 5:35:25 PM
He's OAD based on them watching him play against 17 year olds in Turkey, not ACC upperclassmen, which they'll get to see next year. He's not like Dwight Howard coming out of high school or something. He's more like one of those guys you've never heard of who gets drafted in the 1st round and sucks his rookie season in the NBA.He could be really, really good. But just cause he's got a certain number of stars doesn't mean he's gonna play like Brice Johnson did last year if that's what anyone is expecting. And I'm pretty pumped that he chose us. Just trying to temper expectations a bit.[Edited on May 16, 2016 at 6:14 PM. Reason : .]

Much needed pickup but damn, hope he's eligible. He'll definitely be the best big man we had in years... not like that's saying much though.
