So, why does everyone hate the Glazers again? Man U has enjoyed a good run since they bought it, right? 3 straight league titles, a European title, and a Finals appearance last year is as good as it gets outside of fantasy land for winning trophies. Now that article on the front page of soccernet is talking about the Red Knights desperately trying to raise money to put together a 1 billion pound bid when the Glazers have already turned down a 1.5 billion pound bid from the far east. This makes no sense. The desperate buyer is trying to set a price for the owner that doesn't want to sell. Good luck with that Red Knights. These clowns claim they are worried about the club's financial situation because they have debt, but isn't that part of running a business? What club outside of Chelsea and City who are owned by multibillionaire oil tycoons doesn't have some degree of debt? The Red Knights can't even raise enough money to get a legitimate bid in, but they seem to think that they are going to rescue the club from debt. Riiiight. To me, it look like the Red Knights are hurting this club to me. By dividing the fan base they ultimately hurt the thing they love the most. Fergie has the money to do whatever he wants and thinks is necessary as far as I can tell, and I'm sure they will be buyers again this summer. So, what is serious enough to warrant singing songs about the death of Glazer and his kids?

No, it's not part of running a club anywhere in the world except for the US.Barca operates with little to no debt. Most European clubs do. It's fiscal conservatism that keeps these clubs afloat, not worldwide fanbases and shirt sales. You can't sit back and bank on future success when you run a sports team - it's just not a shrewd business decision. Madrid is lucky that the government writes off their debts, but teams like United, Liverpool, Portsmouth, Leeds, Newcastle, Rangers, and others have all found themselves in poor positions financially because they count on making money that sometimes doesn't appear.Rangers just won the SPL and they are scraping to make ends meet, even with the bonus paid out for being champions and in making the UCL. They are literally hovering right above administration.Liverpool is the same way. Had they missed the mark and lost their place in the Europa league, they'd be out tens of millions of Pounds/Euros and wouldnt be able to even think about buying the players they need to stay competitive in the league. As it stands right now, they probably won't make the Champions League after next year, either. It's never EVER a good idea to saddle your club with borrowing debt and pin your hopes on future glory.
5/10/2010 11:18:07 AM
Yeah, but at least United can be sustainable year-to-year with their operating revenues.I read an article recently detailing how Liverpool is basically fucked unless they find some oil sugar-daddy because Anfield can't generate enough revenues to pay the damn interest on outstanding loans... so to ask a prospective buyer to come up with the money to buy the club, continue the debt payments, AND build a new stadium is pretty much impossible. The only other option is a ground-share with Everton, which I cannot ever see happening. So basically, see ya Torres and Gerrard.

^^Sustainable for now, but not indefinitely. As much as I have a dislike of Liverpool, I don't think I ever would want to see them go the way of Portsmouth.

ahahahha epic reactionthe best part is we've all been there at some point (had the same reaction)SO I was thinking guys - next year should we just make a "European Soccer" thread? That way we don't get people feeling guilty about posting one-offs from other leagues, and we also open it up to talk about those other leagues as well. I know amac loves him some i-talian footie. I don't mind talking about the Spanish & Scottish leagues, either.[Edited on May 10, 2010 at 8:46 PM. Reason : .]

lol where did you see that from? if hes going anywhere in the EPL you would have to think its United. i know they are looking for a keeper to replace VDS, and im sure Arsenal are looking for a keeper to replace anyone who starts for them...but there is no way arsenal can afford buffon

I cant say either set would be better - if Chelsea get rid of any of those players for just one guy, they're going to the be the weaker team for it.
5/17/2010 12:52:20 PM
yeah I agree, but from Liverpool's perspective
5/17/2010 1:01:29 PM
I guess as a United fan, I'd endorse making Chelsea weaker. Those Citeh players are barely even fringe players ATM.

I don't think Chelsea will lose a whole lot in that deal. The biggest loss they would take is Kalou and Anelka. Carvalho, Deco, Bosingwa, and Ferreira didn't see much playing time at all this season. They'll lose a little depth but the only one who saw much of the field was Anelka. You could easily start building a new team around Deco, Carvalho and Kalou even though there's a lot of age in that deal. Plus they're getting money... Sounds like a great deal for Liverpool. They need to realize that this isn't a move the manager wants to make, this is a move the crazy ass Russian wants to make and they'll be able to rape Chelsea for way more than Torres is worth. And for the record, I think Torres is the best complete striker in the world.
