The transfer wire just opened up as well as the late signee spots.I have a feeling a big man with 3 ability will transfer in. I can't blame the twins, with DSJ, Dorn, Henderson, Rowan and Abu/Anya they weren't going to get much time and certainly weren't going to be starters.Other teams have transfers too, don't just look through red tinted lenses.
3/24/2016 3:59:52 PM
They're both better than Rowan. And are versatile enough to play almost any position on the floor. No reason they wouldn't get major minutes next year.Gonna be awesome that our best defenders are gone now. I didn't think we could get any worse defensively.
3/24/2016 4:04:49 PM
I know man! With them back maybe we could have pulled off 6 ACC wins instead of five.
3/24/2016 4:06:43 PM
BC is our new ACC rival.
3/24/2016 4:08:14 PM
If every player out there wants playing time, who would fill the bench then?
3/24/2016 4:10:18 PM
I figured out why so many people transfer. It's all about planting the seeds of doubt early. The negative recruiting is KILLING US.Stage 1: Kid narrows down list that includes NC state. Other coaches pull them aside and whisper things like "You're not really thinking about going to State are ya?" Kid gets surprised. He thought State was a big name ACC school with top facilities. They even have national titles...Stage 2: Kid shows high interest in going to State. Other coaches say stuff like "Man, have you ever seen what happens to kids who go to State?" Kid gets nervous and checks into other State recruiting horror stories over the last decade. There are a ton of bodies buried but this cocky kid thinks I'm better than them. I'm gonna put State back on the map.Stage 3: Kid commits to State. Other coaches stay stuff like "Don't say i didn't warn ya about State." Kid thinks it's just sour grapes but is still a little nervous. Stage 4: Kid enrolls at State. Bad things start happening but he thinks man its just my first year. I'll just work harder. The fans are all saying wait til next year. Kid adopts the NEXT YEAR mentality. Tells all his friends who didn't go to State. All his old friends look at him like hes lost it. They secretly whisper behind his back that he made a huge mistake going to State. Stage 5: It's next year. Bad things continue to happen. Kid feels shellshocked. Realizes that no matter how hard he tries he can't overcome 25 years worth of failure. The pressure mounts. Old friends aren't even answering his calls. The only way he can get his name in the paper is to announce he is transferring. He expects the blue bloods and big name programs to call. But no. He's got the dreaded State stench on him. He gets calls from ODU, Butler, the ghost of UCONN... football schools like Auburn.... places like Alabama A&M even offer extended meal plans... suddenly he realizes his dreams are over.. but it's too late. He's become another State victim. Another bright young star taken. Another example for other coaches to use when the next 16 year old prospect puts State on their interest list..."Psssst... hey kid... over here.... you're not really thinking about going to State are ya?"[Edited on March 24, 2016 at 4:18 PM. We need to recruit players with the following attributes:- Ballers. If you = baller, that's step 1- Stubborn settlers. We want players who are too lazy to transfer. They'll just ride it out. That's it.
3/24/2016 4:18:32 PM
3/24/2016 4:20:15 PM
Cody was definitely gonna be the odd man out next year with Dorn being the back up PG. Caleb was pretty damn streaky. As was Mav...i'm not particularly confident in saying that one was significantly better than the other on the offensive end. Defensively...anybody is better than Mav.
3/24/2016 4:32:27 PM
Agreed...so again, not that big of a loss especially if we get transfers that are better...better off in the long run.
3/24/2016 4:37:12 PM
The best lineup this past year was Barber, Martin, Martin, Freeman, Abu. There was enough offensive ability to compete and players who could play some semblance of defense. So this coming year I'm assuming our best lineup will be Smith, Dorn, Henderson, UMMMMMM OH GOD ANYONE, Abu. Because Rowan being on the floor means easy buckets for the other team, I've given up on believing Anya can ever actually play basketball and I don't think Freeman ever gets back to where he was. We're going to be even thinner than we were this year, and asking an awful lot of a freshman coming off a torn ACL. [Edited on March 24, 2016 at 4:40 PM. Reason : LMAO "if we get transfers that are better"]
3/24/2016 4:39:49 PM
^i think you need to take a break and calm down
3/24/2016 5:10:34 PM
The twins weren't all that good, let's be honest. Caleb could get hot from 3 on occasion- but he always looked like a trout floppin all haphazardly on the bank of a river anytime he went to the hole.Cody just sucked. (He was basically Marques Johnson 2.0).I expect we'll pick up a grad transfer guard, and we'll be better off going forward. We'll also be in tourney next year, mark it down. (Unless DSJ blows a knee).
3/24/2016 5:12:59 PM
^ Wtf?? Biggest hyperbole ever??Comparing cody martin to a nPOY, 5 time nba all star, top ten in nba mvp voting several times, top notch defender, great scorer, rebounder, passer.... He was before my time but this comparison is ridiculous. Cody Martin probably won't even make the nba let alone win a national title, nPOY, get drafted top 5, etc..Ohhhhhh wait you meant the guy no one has ever heard of that we brought in to compete against our stud recruit Julius Mays and our uber transfer Steve Francis errrrrr Farnold DeGandI give up. I dont need these irrelevant names in my life anymore. There is nothing sadder than following recruiting 15 years after you started college. It's just one disappointment after another.Remember that time we all got excited about brent Schaeffer and schea cotton. It's over. Lock the door, kill the lights, no one's coming home tonite [Edited on March 24, 2016 at 5:29 PM. Reason : A]
3/24/2016 5:23:59 PM
he's talking about the lesser known Marques Johnson that played for State this century.
3/24/2016 5:25:55 PM
Yea... Ive never heard of any other Marques but this guy... http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/news/story?id=2728041I remember the high hopes for him. Twas a 4 star outta highschool.
3/24/2016 5:28:43 PM
cody was definitely better than marques johnson though...marques johnson couldn't get the ball up the fucking court.we are going after grad transfer from AZ St Savon Goodman, btw.
3/24/2016 5:29:25 PM
Literally, marques could NOT get the ball up the court. That was absolutely the low point of nc state basketball. He was not capable of dribbling to mid court Even Ulius 'NoJay' Mays could get to half court and pick up his dribble. He just happened to be the worst SG recruit at shooting that has ever made the top 150. Kid couldn't make anything.[Edited on March 24, 2016 at 5:39 PM. Reason : A]
3/24/2016 5:33:50 PM
^^that's good infowhat other recruits/transfers are now on the radar?
3/24/2016 5:59:04 PM
Also Abu going through the draft process, with no agent, so he will be back but just lets you know his mindset. Can't blame him for going through a free process to get better and still be able to come back.[Edited on March 24, 2016 at 6:02 PM. Reason : doublepoast]
3/24/2016 6:02:14 PM
If we get 3 playable transfers/recruits i will not worry. at this point tho im done.
3/24/2016 6:14:45 PM
3/24/2016 6:18:40 PM
I know we were speaking with the Wake transfer as well, the big guy.Other than that I haven't heard much...should pick up heavily now that NCAA is winding down.
3/24/2016 6:26:05 PM
yeah, i think the next couple weeks we'll see more names pop up as potential transfers, grad transfers, or maybe even guys that were committed somewhere but the coach left so they get released.
3/24/2016 6:31:24 PM
Now Gott can make playing time rain down on these recruits.
3/24/2016 11:07:03 PM
I think there will be at least one recruit we sway late.At least from local banter, it's my hunch.
3/24/2016 11:23:02 PM
If only we had a Marques John type recruit or a Farnold Degand type recruit or a Tracy Smith-esque guy, or a Javier Gonzalez style player. Maybe a Trevor Ferguson wing guy would help. Ah, the good ol days.
3/24/2016 11:25:04 PM
^ one of those does not belong
3/25/2016 12:01:02 AM
They should make it mandatory to have a flaming basketball going through the hoop tattoo to play at nc state.
3/25/2016 12:11:11 AM
DHJ agrees.
3/25/2016 12:20:11 AM
Arguably our best NBA player in recent history. LOL[Edited on March 25, 2016 at 12:33 AM. Reason : shit i forgot tj warren is actually a bonafide nba player now. it's been so long since we had one.]
3/25/2016 12:31:55 AM
yeah, Horner's 30 day stint in the pros is arguably better than JJ Hickson's 8 year still-active career
3/25/2016 12:59:05 AM
Yah he dumb. But that's no breaking news.
3/25/2016 1:14:34 AM
Gott better be rolling out all the stops for this Turkish big man, I'm talking free daily trips to Turkish delights on Glenwood!
3/25/2016 5:42:07 AM
for this reason is why you recruit those three star guys that you can develop into junior and senior starters and your not left with empty bench spots due to mass exodus. We are not Kentucky, Duke, Kansas were we can just recruit 3 to 4 top 20 every year to replenish our roster. Gott has to be smarter recruiting
3/25/2016 8:07:09 AM
Martin twins were top 20?
3/25/2016 8:10:28 AM
3/25/2016 8:23:34 AM
^^^ HOT TAKE ALERT
3/25/2016 8:48:31 AM
So hot in fact it had to be posted in two different threads.
3/25/2016 8:50:17 AM
if anybody wants a scouting report on Savon Goodman, I'll be happy to provide one
3/25/2016 9:09:43 AM
^Shrimp cashew go head.
3/25/2016 9:24:24 AM
3/25/2016 9:37:00 AM
this is what is being discussed on PP. take it with a grain of salt.
3/25/2016 9:58:48 AM
Plenty of speculation that the Twins both wanted assurances that they'd start...Gott had made it clear in the past he starts whoever earns it, which I tend to agree with. Only person that should know they had a starting spot for next year is DSJr, esp. given he's our only true PG on the roster and he'd be a lottery pick this year if he could go pro.It would probably help us recruiting a post-grad big man if we knew in advance that Freeman would be redshirting. Right now it's hard to offer up immediate PT(or starting spot) with us returning 3 big men who have played quite a bit.The 5* C is interesting. If you read his analysis, he actually sounds a bit raw and he seems like the competition he's faced has kinda hurt his development. Summary is that he killed it with lesser competition and then when he went up a level he was easily frustrated and struggled with the gameplan not revolving around him. So I'm not sold he's going to be an immediate impact guy, but love his upside.
3/25/2016 10:48:04 AM
This is such a shitshowI'm not even mad because I was so checked out this season. But man, things look bad.
3/25/2016 10:55:02 AM
We're about to crush the transfer market...this should be interesting.
3/25/2016 11:08:28 AM
The Replacements 2: NC State Basketball
3/25/2016 11:28:48 AM
So now we are striving to be a conference usa style transfer program.Debbie cant fore him because players left and its a week too late ti fire him for the season so now she has to wait a year. Now the cupboard is going to be completely bare for the new coach.
